Deuteronomy 29

1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt before your very eyes to Pharaoh and all his servants and to all his land;	1 Erre Mózes összehívta egész Izraelt és azt mondta nekik: »Ti láttátok mindazt, amit az Úr előttetek Egyiptom földjén a fáraóval, annak minden szolgájával és egész földjével művelt,
2 the great testings your own eyes have seen, and those great signs and wonders.	2 azokat a nagy csapásokat, amelyeket saját szemetekkel láttatok, azokat a nagy jeleket és csodákat,
3 But not even at the present day has the LORD yet given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.	3 de az Úr mind a mai napig nem adott nektek értelmes szívet, látó szemet és halló fület.
4 'I led you for forty years in the desert. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet;	4 Negyven esztendeig vezetett titeket a pusztában. Ruháitok nem koptak el, lábatok saruját nem tette tönkre az idő,
5 bread was not your food, nor wine or beer your drink. Thus you should know that I, the LORD, am your God.'	5 kenyeret nem ettetek, bort és részegítő italt nem ittatok, hogy megtudjátok, hogy én, az Úr vagyok a ti Istenetek.
6 When we came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to engage us in battle, but we defeated them	6 Amikor pedig eljutottatok erre a helyre és Szihon, Hesebon királya meg Óg, Básán királya kivonult ellenünk, hogy megütközzék velünk, megvertük őket,
7 and took over their land, which we then gave as a heritage to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.	7 s elvettük földjüket, s odaadtuk Rúbennek és Gádnak meg Manassze fél törzsének birtokul.
8 Keep the terms of this covenant, therefore, and fulfill them, that you may succeed in whatever you do.	8 Tartsátok meg és teljesítsétek tehát e szövetség igéit, hogy boldoguljatok mindenben, amit csak tesztek.
9 "You are all now standing before the LORD, your God--your chiefs and judges, your elders and officials, and all of the men of Israel,	9 Itt álltok ti ma mindnyájan az Úr, a ti Istenetek előtt, fejedelmeitek, törzseitek, véneitek, elöljáróitok, Izraelnek egész férfi népe,
10 together with your wives and children and the aliens who live in your camp, down to those who hew wood and draw water for you--	10 gyermekeitek, feleségeitek, a táborban veled lakó jövevények, azokat sem kivéve, akik a fát vágják, s a vizet hordják,
11 that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he concluded with you today under this sanction of a curse;	11 hogy belépj az Úrnak, a te Istenednek szövetségébe és esküvel megerősített szerződésébe, amelyet ma az Úr, a te Istened megköt veled,
12 so that he may now establish you as his people and he may be your God, as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	12 hogy népévé emeljen téged, s ő legyen a te Istened, mint ahogy megígérte neked, s amint megesküdött atyáidnak: Ábrahámnak, Izsáknak és Jákobnak.
13 But it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant, under this sanction of a curse;	13 De nemcsak veletek kötöm meg ezt a szövetséget és létesítem ezt az esküvel megerősített szerződést,
14 it is just as much with those who are not here among us today as it is with those of us who are now here present before the LORD, our God.	14 hanem minden jelen- és távollevővel egyaránt.
15 "You know in what surroundings we lived in the land of Egypt and what we passed by in the nations we traversed,	15 Nos, ti tudjátok, miképp laktunk Egyiptom földjén, s mint jöttünk át a nemzetek között, s amikor átjöttünk közöttük,
16 and you saw the loathsome idols of wood and stone, of gold and silver, that they possess.	16 láttátok azokat az utálatosságokat és undokságokat, vagyis bálványaikat, a fát, a követ, az ezüstöt s az aranyat, amelyet imádtak.
17 Let there be, then, no man or woman, no clan or tribe among you, who would now turn away their hearts from the LORD, our God, to go and serve these pagan gods! Let there be no root that would bear such poison and wormwood among you.	17 Ne akadjon tehát közöttetek olyan férfi vagy asszony, család vagy törzs, amelynek szíve ma elfordul az Úrtól, a mi Istenünktől, s amely elmegy, s ama nemzetek isteneinek szolgál! Ne akadjon közöttetek epét és keserűséget termő gyökér,
18 If any such person, upon hearing the words of this curse, should beguile himself into thinking that he can safely persist in his stubbornness of heart, as though to sweep away both the watered soil and the parched ground,	18 aki, amikor hallja ennek az esküvel erősített szerződésnek az igéit, megnyugtatja magát szívében, mondván: ‘Békességem lesz, ha szívem gonoszsága szerint járok is’, mert akkor elpusztul az áztatott föld a kiaszottal együtt.
19 the LORD will never consent to pardon him. Instead, the LORD'S wrath and jealousy will flare up against that man, and every curse mentioned in this book will alight on him. The LORD will blot out his name from under the heavens	19 Bizony, az ilyennek nem bocsát meg az Úr, sőt mindjárt felgerjed haragja és bosszúja az ilyen ember ellen, s arra rászáll minden átok, amely meg van írva ebben a könyvben, s az Úr eltörli nevét az ég alól,
20 and will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for doom, in keeping with all the curses of the covenant inscribed in this book of the law.	20 s végleg kipusztítja őt Izrael minden törzséből azok szerint az átkok szerint, amelyeket ennek a törvénynek és szövetségnek könyve magában foglal.
21 "Future generations, your own descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigners who will come here from far-off lands, when they see the calamities of this land and the ills with which the LORD has smitten it--	21 Akkor majd kérdezni fogja a következő nemzedék, gyermekeitek is, akik majd születnek, az idegenek is, akik messziről jönnek, amikor látják ennek a földnek a csapásait és betegségeit, amelyekkel az Úr sújtotta –
22 all its soil being nothing but sulphur and salt, a burnt-out waste, unsown and unfruitful, without a blade of grass, destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his furious wrath--	22 kiégeti kénkővel és forró sóval, úgyhogy többé bevetni nem lehet és semmi zöldet sem terem, hasonlóan a felforgatott Szodomához, Gomorrához, Adámához és Ceboimhoz, amelyeket az Úr haragjában és bosszújában felforgatott –,
23 they and all the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD dealt thus with this land? Why this fierce outburst of wrath?'	23 kérdezni fogja valamennyi nemzet: ‘Miért tette ezt az Úr ezzel a földdel? Miért bosszújának ez a mérhetetlen haragja?’
24 And the answer will be, 'Because they forsook the covenant which the LORD, the God of their fathers, had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,	24 Azt fogják felelni erre: ‘Mivel elhagyták az Úr szövetségét, amelyet atyáikkal kötött, amikor kihozta őket Egyiptomból
25 and they went and served other gods and adored them, gods whom they did not know and whom he had not let fall to their lot:	25 és más isteneket szolgáltak és imádtak, olyanokat, akiket azelőtt nem ismertek, s akikhez az Úr nem utasította őket,
26 that is why the LORD was angry with this land and brought on it all the imprecations listed in this book;	26 azért felgerjedt az Úr haragja ez ellen a föld ellen, s rá hozott minden átkot, amely meg van írva ebben a könyvben,
27 in his furious wrath and tremendous anger the LORD uprooted them from their soil and cast them out into a strange land, where they are today.'	27 s haragjában, bosszújában, s felette nagy felháborodásában kitépte őket földjükről és idegen földre vetette őket, mint a mai nap mutatja.’
28 (Both what is still hidden and what has already been revealed concern us and our descendants forever, that we may carry out all the words of this law.)	28 Ami rejtve van, az az Úrnak, a mi Istenünknek a dolga; ami nyilvánvaló, az a miénk s a mi fiainkéi mindörökké, hogy teljesítsük ennek a törvénynek minden igéjét.
