Deuteronomy 17

1 "You shall not sacrifice to the LORD, your God, from the herd or from the flock an animal with any serious defect; that would be an abomination to the LORD, your God.	1 Non immolerai al Signore Dio tuo pecora o bue che abbia qualche macchia o difetto, perchè è cosa abbominevole pel, Signore Dio tuo.
2 "If there is found among you, in any one of the communities which the LORD, your God, gives you, a man or a woman who does evil in the sight of the LORD, your God, and transgresses his covenant,	2 Se si troverà presso di te, in una delle tue città che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà, un uomo o una donna che faccia il male al cospetto del Signore Dio tuo, e trasgredendone il patto,
3 by serving other gods, or by worshiping the sun or the moon or any of the host of the sky, against my command;	3 vada e serva a dèi stranieri, e li adori, il sole, la luna e tutta la milizia del cielo, cosa da me non comandata,
4 and if, on being informed of it, you find by careful investigation that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in Israel:	4 quando ciò ti sia riferito, e tu, dopo esserti informato diligentemente su quello che hai inteso, avrai trovato che è vero e che tale abbominazione è stata fatta in Israele,
5 you shall bring the man (or woman) who has done the evil deed out to your city gates and stone him to death.	5 condurrai alle porte della città l'uomo o la donna che han fatto tale sceleraggine, e li farai lapidare.
6 The testimony of two or three witnesses is required for putting a person to death; no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.	6 Colui che verrà messo a morte perirà sulla deposizione di due o tre testimoni. Nessuno verrà ucciso sulla deposizione di un solo testimonio.
7 At the execution, the witnesses are to be the first to raise their hands against him; afterward all the people are to join in. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	7 La mano dei testimoni sarà la prima ad alzarsi per ammazzarlo, poi verrà la mano di tutto il popolo; e così toglierai il male di mezzo a te.
8 "If in your own community there is a case at issue which proves too complicated for you to decide, in a matter of bloodshed or of civil rights or of personal injury, you shall then go up to the place which the LORD, your God, chooses,	8 Se vedi che è difficile e ambiguo il tuo giudizio tra sangue e sangue, causa e causa, lebbra e lebbra, e che i sentimenti dei giudici alle tue porte sono divisi, alzati e va al luogo eletto dal Signore Dio tuo,
9 to the levitical priests or to the judge who is in office at that time. They shall study the case and then hand down to you their decision.	9 dai sacerdoti della stirpe di Levi, dal giudice che vi sarà in quel tempo, consultali, ed essi ti indicheranno la verità del giudizio.
10 According to this decision that they give you in the place which the LORD chooses, you shall act, being careful to do exactly as they direct.	10 Tu poi farai tutto quello che avran detto coloro che presiedono nel luogo scelto dal Signore, ciò che ti avranno insegnato
11 You shall carry out the directions they give you and the verdict they pronounce for you, without turning aside to the right or to the left from the decision they hand down to you.	11 Secondo la sua legge, ne seguirai il parere senza piegare a destra o a sinistra.
12 Any man who has the insolence to refuse to listen to the priest who officiates there in the ministry of the LORD, your God, or to the judge, shall die. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	12 Chi poi, levandosi in superbia, non vorrà obbedire al comando del sacerdote che in quel tempo sarà ministro del Signore Dio tuo, nè al decreto del giudice, quell'uomo morrà, e così sarà tolto il male da Israele,
13 And all the people, on hearing of it, shall fear, and never again be so insolent.	13 e tutto il popolo, sentita la cosa, ne avrà tale timore che nessuno per l'avvenire monterà in superbia.
14 "When you have come into the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you, and have occupied it and settled in it, should you then decide to have a king over you like all the surrounding nations,	14 Quando sarai entrato nella terra che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà, ne avrai preso il possesso e vi abiterai, se dirai: Vo' costituire sopra di me un re, come lo hanno le altre nazioni che mi circondano,
15 you shall set that man over you as your king whom the LORD, your God, chooses. He whom you set over you as king must be your kinsman; a foreigner, who is no kin of yours, you may not set over you.	15 costituirai colui che il Signore Dio tuo avrà eletto fra i tuoi fratelli; nè potrai eleggere a re un uomo d'altra nazione che non sia tuo fratello.
16 But he shall not have a great number of horses; nor shall he make his people go back again to Egypt to acquire them, against the LORD'S warning that you must never go back that way again.	16 E quando sarà costituito, egli non si moltiplicherà i cavalli, e non ricondurrà il popolo in Egitto, sostenuto da numerosa cavalleria, avendovi il Signore proibito in modo particolare di ritornare per quella strada.
17 Neither shall he have a great number of wives, lest his heart be estranged, nor shall he accumulate a vast amount of silver and gold.	17 Non avrà gran numero di mogli che traviino il suo cuore, nè immensa quantità d'oro e d'argento,
18 When he is enthroned in his kingdom, he shall have a copy of this law made from the scroll that is in the custody of the levitical priests.	18 Dopo che si sarà assiso sul trono del suo regno, scriverai per suo uso il Deuteronomio di questa legge in un libro, copiandolo dai sacerdoti della tribù levitica,
19 He shall keep it with him and read it all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the LORD, his God, and to heed and fulfill all the words of this law and these statutes.	19 e lo terrà presso di sè, e lo leggerà tutti i giorni della sua vita, per imparare a temere il Signore Dio suo, e per osservare le sue parole, le sue cerimonie che son comandate nella legge;
20 Let him not become estranged from his countrymen through pride, nor turn aside to the right or to the left from these commandments. Then he and his descendants will enjoy a long reign in Israel.	20 affinchè il suo cuore non si levi in superbia, sopra i fratelli, ed egli non pieghi nè a destra nè a sinistra, affinchè regni coi suoi figli molto tempo sopra Israele.
