1 Meanwhile, so many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. He began to speak, first to his disciples, "Beware of the leaven--that is, the hypocrisy--of the Pharisees.	1 Tendo-se juntado à roda de Jesus milhares e milhares de pessoas, de sorte que se atropelavam uns aos outros, começou ele a dizer aos seus discípulos: "Guardai-vos do fermento dos fariseus, que é a hipocrisia.
2 "There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.	2 Nada há oculto que não venha a descobrir-se, e nada há escondido que não venha a saber-se.
3 Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops.	3 Por isso as coisas que dissestes nas trevas, serão ouvidas às claras, e o que falastes ao ouvido no gabinete, será apregoado sobre os telhados.
4 I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more.	4 A vós, pois, meus amigos, vos digo: não tenhais medo daqueles que matam o corpo, e depois nada mais podem fazer.
5 I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one.	5 Eu vou mostrar-vos a quem haveis de temer; temei aquele que, depois de matar, tem poder de lançar no inferno; sim, eu vos digo, temei este.
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God.	6 Não se vendem cinco passarinhos por dois asses, entretanto nem um só deles está em esquecimento diante de Deus.
7 Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.	7 Até os cabelos da vossa cabeça estão todos contados. Não temais pois; vós valeis mais que muitos passarinhos.
8 I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.	8 Digo-vos: Todo aquele que me confessar diante dos homens, também o Filho do homem o confessará diante dos anjos de Deus.
9 But whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.	9 O que me negar diante dos homens, será negado diante dos anjos de Deus.
10 "Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven.	10 Todo o que falar contra o Filho do homem, ser-lhe-á dado perdão; mas àquele que blasfemar contra o Espírito Santo, não lhe será perdoado.
11 When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what your defense will be or about what you are to say.	11 Quando vos levarem às sinagogas, e perante os magistrados e autoridades, não estejais com cuidado de que modo respondereis, ou que direis,
12 For the holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say."	12 porque o Espírito Santo vos ensinará, naquele mesmo momento, o que deveis dizer."
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me."	13 Então disse-lhe alguém da multidão: "Mestre, diz a meu irmão que me dê a minha parte da herança."
14 He replied to him, "Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?"	14 Jesus respondeu-lhe: "Meu amigo, quem me constituiu juiz ou árbitro entre vós?"
15 Then he said to the crowd, "Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one's life does not consist of possessions."	15 Depois disse-lhes: "Guardai-vos cuidadosamente de toda a avareza, porque a vida de cada um, ainda que esteja na abundância, não depende dos bens que possui."
16 Then he told them a parable. "There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.	16 Sobre isto propôs-lhes esta parábola: "Os campos de um homem rico tinham dado abundantes frutos.
17 He asked himself, 'What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?'	17 Ele andava discorrendo consigo; Que farei, pois, não tenho onde recolher os meus frutos?
18 And he said, 'This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods	18 Depois disse: Farei isto: Demolirei os meus celeiros, fá-los-ei maiores, neles recolherei todas as minhas novidades e os meus bens,
19 and I shall say to myself, "Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!"	19 e direi à minha alma: Ó alma, tu tens muitos bens em depósito para largos anos; descansa, come, bebe, regala-te.
20 But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?'	20 Mas Deus disse-lhe: Néscio, esta noite te virão demandar a tua alma; e as coisas que juntaste, para quem serão?
21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God."	21 Assim é o que entesoura para si, e não é rico para Deus."
22 He said to (his) disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body and what you will wear.	22 Depois disse a seus discípulos: "Portanto vos digo : Não andeis demasiadamente inquietos nem com o que vos é preciso para a vossa vida, nem com o que vos é preciso para vestir o vosso corpo.
23 For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.	23 A vida vale mais que o alimento, e o corpo mais que o vestido.
24 Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more important are you than birds!	24 Considerai os corvos, que não semeiam, nem ceifam, nem têm despensa, nem celeiro, e Deus, contudo, sustenta-os. Quanto mais valeis vós do que eles?
25 Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your lifespan?	25 Qual de vós, por muito que pense, pode acrescentar um côvado à duração da sua vida?
26 If even the smallest things are beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest?	26 Se vós, pois, não podeis fazer o que é mínimo, porque estais em cuidado sobre as outras coisas?
27 Notice how the flowers grow. They do not toil or spin. But I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of them.	27 Considerai como crescem os lírios; não trabalham, nem fiam; contudo, digo-vos que nem Salomão, com toda a sua glória, se vestia como um deles.
28 If God so clothes the grass in the field that grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?	28 Se, poie, a erva, que hoje está no campo, e amanhã se lança no forno. Deus a veste assim, quanto mais a vós, homens de pouca fé?
29 As for you, do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not worry anymore.	29 Vós, pois, não procureis com cuidados excessivos o que haveis de comer ou beber; não andeis com o espírito preocupado.
30 All the nations of the world seek for these things, and your Father knows that you need them.	30 Porque são as nações deste mundo que buscam com excessivo cuidado todas estas coisas. Mas o vosso Pai sabe que tendes necessidade delas.
31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these other things will be given you besides.	31 Buscai, pois, em primeiro lugar, o reino de Deus e a sua justiça, e todas essas coisas vos serão dadas por acréscimo.
32 Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.	32 Não temas, ó pequenino rebanho, porque foi do agrado do vosso Pai dar-vos o reino.
33 Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.	33 Vendei o que possuis, e dai esmola; provei-vos de bolsas que não envelhecem, de um tesouro inexaurível no céu, onde não chega o ladrão, nem a traça rói.
34 For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.	34 Porque onde está o vosso tesouro, aí estará também o vosso coração.
35 "Gird your loins and light your lamps	35 Estejam cingidos os vossos rins, e acesas as vossas lâmpadas.
36 and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.	36 Fazei como os homens que esperam o seu senhor quando volta das bodas, para que, quando vier e bater à porta, logo lha abram.
37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.	37 Bem-aventurados aqueles servos, a quem o Senhor achar vigiando, quando vier. Na verdade vos digo que se cingirá, os fará pôr à mesa, e, passando por entre eles, os servirá.
38 And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.	38 Se vier na segunda vigília, ou na terceira, e assim os encontrar, bem-aventurados são aqueles servos.
39 Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.	39 Sabei que, se o pai de família soubesse a hora, em que viria o ladrão, vigiaria sem dúvida, e não deixaria minar a sua casa.
40 You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."	40 Vós, pois, estai preparados, porque, na hora que não cuidais, virá o Filho do homem."
41 Then Peter said, "Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?"	41 Pedro disse-lhe: "Senhor, dizes esta parábola só para nós ou para todos?"
42 And the Lord replied, "Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute (the) food allowance at the proper time?	42 O Senhor respondeu: "Quem é o despenseiro fiel e prudente que o Senhor estabelecerá sobre as pessoas da sua casa, para dar a cada um a seu tempo a ração de trigo?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so.	43 Bem-aventurado aquele servo a quem, quando o Senhor vier, achar procedendo assim.
44 Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.	44 Na verdade vos digo que o constituirá administrador de tudo quanto possui.
45 But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk,	45 Porém, se aquele servo disser no seu coração : "O meu senhor tarda em vir ; e começar a espancar os criados e as criadas, a comer, a beber e a embriagar-se,
46 then that servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful.	46 chegará o senhor desse servo no dia, em que ele o não espera, e na hora, em que ele não sabe; removê-lo-á, e pô-lo-á aparte com os infiéis.
47 That servant who knew his master's will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely;	47 Aquele servo, que conheceu a vontade do seu senhor, e nada preparou, e não procedeu conforme a sua vontade, levará muitos açoutes,
48 and the servant who was ignorant of his master's will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.	48 Quanto àquele que, não a conhecendo, fez coisas dignas de castigo, levará poucos açoutes, Porque a todo aquele a quem muito foi dado, muito lhe será exigido; e ao que muito confiaram, mais conta lhe tomarão.
49 "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!	49 Eu vim trazer fogo à terra; e que quero eu, senão que ele se acenda?
50 There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!	50 Eu tenho de receber um baptismo; e quão grande é a minha ansiedade, até que ele se conclua!
51 Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.	51 Julgais que vim trazer paz à terra? Não, vos digo eu, mas separação ;
52 From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three;	52 porque, de hoje em diante, haverá numa casa cinco pessoas, divididas três contra duas, e duas contra três,
53 a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."	53 Estarão divididos: o pai contra o filho, e o filho contra o pai; a mãe contra a filha, e a filha contra a mãe; a sogra contra a nora e a nora contra a sogra."
54 He also said to the crowds, "When you see (a) cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain--and so it does;	54 Dizia também às multidões: "Quando vós vedes levantar-se uma nuvem no poente, logo dizeis: Aí vem chuva; e assim sucede.
55 and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot--and so it is.	55 E quando sentis soprar o vento do sul, dizeis: Haverá calor; e assim sucede.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?	56 Hipócritas, sabeis distinguir os aspectos da terra e do céu ; como, pois, não sabeis reconhecer o tempo presente?
57 "Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?	57 E porque não discernis também por vós mesmos o que é justo?
58 If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison.	58 Quando, pois, fores com o teu adversário ao magistrado, faz o possível por te livrares dele no caminho, para que não suceda que te leve ao juiz, que o juiz te entregue ao meirinho, e o meirinho te meta na cadeia.
59 I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."	59 Digo-te que não sairás de lá, enquanto não pagares até ao último ceitil."
