1 Gather, gather yourselves together, O nation without shame!	1 - Raccoglietevi, radunatevi, gente disamorevole,
2 Before you are driven away, like chaff that passes on; Before there comes upon you the blazing anger of the LORD: Before there comes upon you the day of the LORD'S anger.	2 prima che il decreto faccia nascere quel giorno, come un turbine di polvere che passa, prima che vi sorprenda l'ira sdegnata del Signore, prima che sopraggiunga il giorno della collera del Signore!
3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth, who have observed his law; Seek justice, seek humility; perhaps you may be sheltered on the day of the LORD'S anger.	3 Cercate il Signore, o voi tutti umili della terra, che avete messo in pratica i suoi precetti; cercate la giustizia, cercate la mansuetudine, se mai possiate trovare un rifugio nel giorno dell'ira del Signore!
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon shall be a waste, Ashdod they shall drive out at midday, and Ekron shall be uprooted.	4 Perchè Gaza sarà distrutta, Ascalon disertata, Azoto espulsa in pien meriggio e Accaron rasa al suolo.
5 Woe to you who dwell by the seacoast, to the Cretan folk! The word of the LORD is against you, I will humble you, land of the Philistines, and leave you to perish without an inhabitant!	5 Guai a voi, che abitate la zona del mare, gente di Kereti, la parola del Signore è contro di voi, o Canaan, terra dei Filistei, io ti disperderò in guisa che non vi rimanga abitatore.
6 The coastland of the Cretans shall become fields for shepherds, and folds for flocks.	6 E la zona del mare diventerà stazione di pastori e di mandre di bestiame.
7 The coast shall belong to the remnant of the house of Judah; by the sea they shall pasture. In the houses of Ashkelon at evening they shall couch their flocks, For the LORD their God shall visit them, and bring about their restoration.	7 E quel lembo di terra sarà dei superstiti della casa di Giuda; pascoleranno su quei luoghi e la sera si coricheranno nelle case di Ascalon, perchè il Signore Dio loro li visiterà e li farà ritornare dalla loro schiavitù.
8 I have heard the revilings uttered by Moab, and the insults of the Ammonites, When they reviled my people and made boasts against their territory.	8 Io ho udito l'insulto di Moab e le bestemmie dei figli di Ammon, con cui oltraggiano il mio popolo, imbaldanziti delle loro frontiere.
9 Therefore, as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall become like Sodom, the land of Ammon like Gomorrah: A field of nettles and a salt pit and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, the survivors of my nation dispossess them.	9 Perciò lo giuro, per me che vivo, dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele, che Moab sarà come Sodoma e la terra dei figli di Ammon come Gomorra: aride spine e mucchi di sale e desolazione eterna! I superstiti del mio popolo li saccheggeranno e i resti della mia gente avranno le loro possessioni.
10 Such shall be the requital of their pride, because they reviled and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts.	10 Questo avverrà a essi in cambio della loro superbia, perchè hanno insultato e si sono imbaldanziti contro il popolo del Signore degli eserciti.
11 The LORD shall inspire them with fear when he makes all the gods of earth to waste away; Then, each from its own place, all the coastlands of the nations shall adore him.	11 Il Signore sarà terribile contro essi e annienterà tutti gli dèi della terra; lui adoreranno gli uomini, ciascuno dal suo luogo, tutte le isole delle genti.
12 You too, O Cushites, shall be slain by the sword of the LORD.	12 Ma anche voi, o Etiopi, perirete trafitti dalla mia spada.
13 He will stretch out his hand against the north, to destroy Assyria; He will make Nineveh a waste, dry as the desert.	13 Egli stenderà la sua mano verso settentrione e sterminerà gli Assiri; e ridurrà Ninive a solitudine, a luogo disabitato e come un deserto.
14 In her midst shall settle in droves all the wild life of the hollows; The screech owl and the desert owl shall roost in her columns; Their call shall resound from the window, the raven's croak from the doorway.	14 In mezzo ad essa si rannicchieranno gli armenti e ogni razza di bestie; il pellicano e l'istrice si rintaneranno sotto ai liminari delle sue porte; voci stridenti si udiranno dalle finestre, corvi sulla soglia, perchè fiaccherò la sua prepotenza.
15 Is this the exultant city that dwelt secure; That told herself, "There is no other than I!" How has she become a waste, a lair for wild beasts? Whoever passes by her hisses, and shakes his fist!	15 Ecco la città esultante di gioia, che se ne stava sicura, che diceva in cuor suo: Ci sono io e non c'è altra fuori di me! . Come mai è stata ridotta in un deserto, in un covo di bestie? Chiunque passerà per essa, fischierà e agiterà la mano.
