1 The heads of the ancestral houses in the clan of descendants of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh-one of the Josephite clans-came up and laid this plea before Moses and the priest Eleazar and before the princes who were the heads of the ancestral houses of the other Israelites.	1 Alors (Or,) les princes des familles de Galaad, fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, de la race des enfants de Joseph, vinrent parler à Moïse devant les princes d'Israël, et lui dirent :
2 They said: "The LORD commanded you, my lord, to apportion the land by lot among the Israelites; and you, my lord, were also commanded by the LORD to give the heritage of our kinsman Zelophehad to his daughters.	2 Le Seigneur t'a ordonné, à toi qui es notre seigneur, de partager la terre de Chanaan par le sort entre les enfants d'Israël, et de donner aux filles de Salphaad, notre frère, l'héritage qui était dû à leur père.
3 But if they marry into one of the other Israelite tribes, their heritage will be withdrawn from our ancestral heritage and will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry; thus the heritage that fell to us by lot will be diminished.	3 Mais si elles épousent maintenant des hommes d'une autre tribu, leur bien les suivra ; et étant transféré à une autre tribu, il sera retranché de l'héritage qui nous appartient.
4 When the Israelites celebrate the jubilee year, the heritage of these women will be permanently added to that of the tribe into which they marry and will be withdrawn from that of our ancestral tribe."	4 (Et) Ainsi il arrivera que lorsque l'année du jubilé, c'est-à-dire la cinquantième, qui est celle de la remise de toutes choses, sera venue, les partages qui avaient été faits par le sort seront confondus, et le bien des uns passera aux autres.
5 So Moses gave this regulation to the Israelites according to the instructions of the LORD: "The tribe of the Josephites are right in what they say.	5 Moïse répondit aux enfants d'Israël, et il leur dit, selon l'ordre qu'il en reçut du Seigneur : Ce que la tribu des enfants de Joseph a représenté est très raisonnable (sage) ;
6 This is what the LORD commands with regard to the daughters of Zelophehad: They may marry anyone they please, provided they marry into a clan of their ancestral tribe,	6 et voici la loi qui a été établie par le Seigneur au sujet des filles de Salphaad. Elles se marieront à qui elles voudront, pourvu que ce soit à des hommes de leur tribu ;
7 so that no heritage of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelites will retain their own ancestral heritage.	7 afin que l'héritage des enfants d'Israël ne se confonde point en passant d'une tribu à une autre. Car tous les hommes prendront des femmes de leur tribu et de leur famille (parenté) ;
8 Therefore, every daughter who inherits property in any of the Israelite tribes shall marry someone belonging to a clan of her own ancestral tribe, in order that all the Israelites may remain in possession of their own ancestral heritage.	8 et toutes les femmes prendront des maris de leur tribu ; afin que les mêmes héritages demeurent toujours dans les familles,
9 Thus, no heritage can pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelite tribes will retain their own ancestral heritage."	9 et que les tribus ne soient point mêlées les unes avec les autres, mais qu'elles demeurent (ainsi)
10 The daughters of Zelophehad obeyed the command which the LORD had given to Moses.	10 (toujours) séparées entre elles, comme elles l'ont été par le Seigneur. Les filles de Salphaad firent ce qui leur avait été commandé.
11 Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, Zelophehad's daughters, married relatives on their father's side	11 Ainsi Maala, Thersa, Hégla, Melcha et Noa épousèrent les fils de leur oncle paternel,
12 within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh, son of Joseph; hence their heritage remained in the tribe of their father's clan.	12 de la famille de Manassé, fils de Joseph ; et le bien qui leur avait été donné demeura de la sorte dans la tribu et dans la famille de leur père.
13 These are the commandments and decisions which the LORD prescribed for the Israelites through Moses, on the plains of Moab beside the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.	13 Ce sont là les lois et les ordonnances que le Seigneur donna par Moïse aux enfants d'Israël, dans la plaine de Moab, le long du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.
