1 The heads of the ancestral houses in the clan of descendants of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh-one of the Josephite clans-came up and laid this plea before Moses and the priest Eleazar and before the princes who were the heads of the ancestral houses of the other Israelites.	1 Los jefes de familia del clan de los descendientes de Galaad –hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, uno de los clanes de los descendientes de José– se presentaron delante de Moisés y de los principales jefes de familia de Israel
2 They said: "The LORD commanded you, my lord, to apportion the land by lot among the Israelites; and you, my lord, were also commanded by the LORD to give the heritage of our kinsman Zelophehad to his daughters.	2 y les dijeron: El Señor mandó a Moisés que repartiera el país entre los israelitas mediante un sorteo, y Moisés también recibió del Señor la orden de entregar a sus hijas la herencia de nuestro hermano Selofjad.
3 But if they marry into one of the other Israelite tribes, their heritage will be withdrawn from our ancestral heritage and will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry; thus the heritage that fell to us by lot will be diminished.	3 Ahora bien, si ellas se casan con un miembro de otra tribu de Israel, su parte será sustraída de la herencia de la tribu a la que van a pertenecer. De esa manera, disminuirá la herencia que nos ha tocado en suerte.
4 When the Israelites celebrate the jubilee year, the heritage of these women will be permanently added to that of the tribe into which they marry and will be withdrawn from that of our ancestral tribe."	4 Y cuando los israelitas celebren el año del jubileo, la herencia de ellas se sumará a la de la otra tribu y será sustraída del patrimonio de nuestra tribu.
5 So Moses gave this regulation to the Israelites according to the instructions of the LORD: "The tribe of the Josephites are right in what they say.	5 Entonces Moisés, por orden del Señor, dio estas instrucciones a los israelitas: La tribu de los descendientes de José tiene razón.
6 This is what the LORD commands with regard to the daughters of Zelophehad: They may marry anyone they please, provided they marry into a clan of their ancestral tribe,	6 Esto es lo que el Señor ha ordenado respecto de las hijas de Selofjad: Ellas pueden casarse con quien les parezca mejor, con tal que lo hagan dentro de un clan perteneciente a la tribu de su padre.
7 so that no heritage of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelites will retain their own ancestral heritage.	7 La parte hereditaria de los israelitas no pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada israelita deberá retener la herencia de su tribu paterna.
8 Therefore, every daughter who inherits property in any of the Israelite tribes shall marry someone belonging to a clan of her own ancestral tribe, in order that all the Israelites may remain in possession of their own ancestral heritage.	8 Por lo tanto, toda joven que posea una herencia en alguna tribu de los israelitas, se casará dentro de un clan de su tribu paterna, de manera que los israelitas conserven cada uno la herencia de sus padres.
9 Thus, no heritage can pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelite tribes will retain their own ancestral heritage."	9 Así, ninguna herencia pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada una de las tribus de los israelitas retendrá su parte.
10 The daughters of Zelophehad obeyed the command which the LORD had given to Moses.	10 Las hijas de Selofjad procedieron como el Señor se lo había ordenado a Moisés.
11 Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, Zelophehad's daughters, married relatives on their father's side	11 Majlá, Tirsá, Joglá, Milcá y Noá, hijas de Selofjad, se casaron con hijos de sus tíos paternos.
12 within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh, son of Joseph; hence their heritage remained in the tribe of their father's clan.	12 Y como lo hicieron dentro de los clanes de los descendientes de Manasés, la herencia de ellas quedó en la tribu del clan de su padre.
13 These are the commandments and decisions which the LORD prescribed for the Israelites through Moses, on the plains of Moab beside the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.	13 Estos son los mandamientos y las leyes que el Señor dio a los israelitas por medio de Moisés, en las estepas de Moab, junto al Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.
