1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
2 Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother,	2 «Figlio dell’uomo, ci furono due donne figlie della stessa madre;
3 who even as young girls played the harlot in Egypt. There the Egyptians caressed their bosoms and fondled their virginal breasts.	3 esse si prostituirono in Egitto, si prostituirono nella loro giovinezza: là furono premute le loro mammelle, là compressero il loro seno verginale.
4 Oholah was the name of the elder, and the name of her sister was Oholibah. They became mine and bore sons and daughters. (As for their names: Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.)	4 Ecco i loro nomi: Ohola la maggiore e Oholiba sua sorella. Esse divennero mie e generarono figlie e figli. Quanto ai loro nomi, Ohola è Samaria e Oholiba è Gerusalemme.
5 Oholah became a harlot faithless to me; she lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians, warriors	5 Ora Ohola, mentre mi apparteneva, si prostituì; si innamorò perdutamente dei suoi amanti, gli Assiri suoi vicini,
6 dressed in purple, governors and officers, all of them attractive young men, knights mounted on horses.	6 vestiti di porpora viola, governatori e luogotenenti, tutti giovani amabili, cavalieri che montano su cavalli.
7 Thus she gave herself as a harlot to them, to all the elite of the Assyrians, and she defiled herself with all those for whom she lusted (with all their idols).	7 Con questi, che erano tutti il fior dei figli di Assiria, essa compì la prostituzione; si contaminò con gl’idoli di quanti aveva amato ardentemente.
8 She did not give up the harlotry which she had begun in Egypt, when they had lain with her as a young girl, fondling her virginal breasts and pouring out their impurities on her.	8 né abbandonò le sue prostituzioni in Egitto, gli Egiziani giacquero con lei nella sua giovinezza, avevano compresso il suo seno vergine, colmandola delle loro fornicazioni.
9 Therefore I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians for whom she had lusted.	9 L’abbandonai, perciò, in balia dei suoi amanti, in balia dei figli di Assiria, che aveva amato perdutamente.
10 They exposed her nakedness, her sons and daughters they took away, and herself they slew with the sword. Thus she became a byword for women, for they punished her grievously.	10 Questi, dopo aver scoperto la sua nudità, ne presero i figli e le figlie e la uccisero di spada. 11 Though her sister Oholibah saw all this, her lust was more depraved than her sister's, and she outdid her in harlotry.	11 Oholiba sua sorella vide; tuttavia fu ancora più perversa di quella la sua veemente passione, e le sue prostituzioni sorpassarono quelle di sua sorella.
12 She too lusted after the Assyrians, governors and officers, warriors impeccably clothed, knights mounted on horses, all of them attractive young men.	12 Si innamorò perdutamente dei figli di Assiria, governatori e luogotenenti, suoi vicini, ottimamente equipaggiati, cavalieri che montano su cavalli, tutti giovani amabili.
13 I saw that she had defiled herself. Both had gone down the same path,	13 Vidi che si contaminava; tenevano entrambe la medesima condotta.
14 yet she went further in her harlotry. When she saw men drawn on the wall, the images of Chaldeans drawn with vermillion,	14 Accrebbe le sue prostituzioni: infatti, vide uomini dipinti su una parete — figure di Caldei tracciate con il minio,
15 with sashes girded about their waists, flowing turbans on their heads, all looking like chariot warriors, the portraits of Babylonians, natives of Chaldea,	15 con i lombi cinti di panno, con turbanti spioventi sul capo, tutti con aspetto di eccellenti guerrieri, immagine dei figli di Babilonia, il cui paese d’origine è la Caldea —,
16 she lusted for them; no sooner had she set eyes on them than she sent messengers to them in Chaldea.	16 se ne innamorò perdutamente, sol per questa visione, e mandò loro messaggeri in Caldea.
17 Then the Babylonians came to her, to the love couch, and defiled her with their intercourse. As soon as she was defiled by them, she became disgusted with them.	17 Vennero così da lei i figli di Babilonia ad amoroso concubito e la contaminarono con le loro fornicazioni e si contaminò con essi ma poi se ne allontanò.
18 Her harlotry was discovered and her shame was revealed, and I became disgusted with her as I had become disgusted with her sister.	18 Poiché aveva svelato le sue prostituzioni, scoprendo la sua nudità, mi allontanai da lei, come mi ero allontanato da sua sorella.
19 But she played the harlot all the more, recalling the days of her girlhood, when she had been a harlot in the land of Egypt.	19 Essa moltiplicò le prostituzioni, facendo rivivere il tempo della sua giovinezza, quando si prostituiva in Egitto.
20 She lusted for the lechers of Egypt, whose members are like that of an ass, and whose heat is like that of stallions.	20 Si innamorò ancora una volta di quei drudi, dall’organo generativo di asini e dal flusso di stalloni.
21 You yearned for the lewdness of your girlhood, when the Egyptians fondled your breasts, caressing your bosom.	21 Così, sei ritornata ardentemente all’ignominia della tua giovinezza, quando gli Egiziani comprimevano le tue mammelle per premere il tuo seno giovanile.
22 Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD: I will now stir up your lovers against you, those with whom you are disgusted, and I will bring them against you from every side:	22 Perciò, Oholiba, così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Ecco, eccito contro di te gli amanti dai quali ti sei allontanata e li farò venire da ogni parte contro di te.
23 the men of Babylon and all of Chaldea, Pekod, Shoa and Koa, along with all those of Assyria, attractive young men, all of them governors and officers, charioteers and warriors, all of them horsemen.	23 I figli di Babilonia e tutti i Caldei, Pekod, Shoa, Koa e, con loro, tutti i figli di Assiria; giovani amabili, tutti i governatori e luogotenenti, guerrieri straordinari e rinomati, che montano, tutti, su cavalli.
24 They shall come against you from the north with chariots and wagons and many peoples. Shields, bucklers, and helmets they shall array against you everywhere.	24 Verranno dunque contro di te con armi, carri, veicoli, con una accolta di popoli, con targhe, rotelle ed elmi; si porranno, tutti intorno, contro di te. Lascerò a loro arbitrio la pena ed essi ti puniranno secondo le loro leggi.
25 I will leave it to them to judge, and they will judge you by their own ordinances. I will let loose my jealousy against you, so that they shall deal with you in fury, cutting off your nose and ears; and what is left of you shall fall by the sword. They shall take away your sons and daughters, and what is left of you shall be devoured by fire.	25 Farò di te l’oggetto della mia gelosia. Essi, perciò, ti tratteranno con furore, ti strapperanno il naso e le orecchie e ciò che di te resterà cadrà di spada. Si impadroniranno dei tuoi figli e delle tue figlie e ciò che di te rimarrà sarà divorato dal fuoco.
26 They shall strip off your clothes and seize your splendid ornaments.	26 Ti spoglieranno delle vesti, si impadroniranno dei tuoi fulgidi gioielli.
27 I will put an end to your lewdness and to the harlotry you began in Egypt; you shall no longer look toward it, nor shall you remember Egypt again.	27 Farò sparire da te la tua ignominia e la tua prostituzione con la terra d’Egitto, in modo che non solleverai più gli occhi a essi né ti ricorderai più dell’Egitto”.
28 For thus says the Lord GOD: I am now handing you over to those whom you hate, to those who fill you with disgust.	28 Infatti, così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Ecco, ti abbandono in potere di coloro che tu hai cessato di amare, di coloro dai quali ti sei allontanata.
29 They shall deal with you in hatred, seizing all that you have worked for and leaving you stark naked, so that your indecent nakedness is exposed. Your lewdness and harlotry	29 Essi ti tratteranno con odio, si impadroniranno dei tuoi beni, lasciandoti nuda e scoperta. Sarà svelata la vergogna delle tue fornicazioni, della tua scelleratezza e della tua prostituzione.
30 have brought these things upon you, because you played the harlot with the nations by defiling yourself with their idols.	30 Ti tratteranno così perché ti sei prostituita alle genti, perché ti sei contaminata coni loro idoli.
31 Because you followed in the path of your sister, I will hand you her cup.	31 Hai seguito la condotta di tua sorella; porrò, dunque, nelle tue mani, il suo calice”.
32 Thus says the Lord GOD: The cup of your sister you shall drink, so wide and deep, which holds so much,	32 Così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Berrai il calice di tua sorella, profondo e largo, molto capace; diventerai oggetto di risa e di scherno.
33 Filled with destruction and grief, a cup of dismay, the cup of your sister.	33 Sarai ricolma di ubriachezza e di affanno. Un calice di orrore e di devastazione è il calice di Samaria tua sorella!
34 You shall drain it dry, and gnaw at the very sherds of the cup, and you shall tear out your breasts; for I have spoken, says the Lord GOD.	34 Lo berrai, lo vuoterai, roderai quindi i suoi cocci e ti strapperai le mammelle, perché io ho parlato” — oracolo del Signore Jahvè.
35 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, it is for you to bear the penalty of your lewdness and harlotry.	35 Così, infatti, dice il Signore Jahvè: “Poiché mi hai dimenticato e mi hai voltato le spalle, espia anche tu la tua scelleratezza e la tua prostituzione”».
36 Then the LORD said to me: Son of man, would you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then make known to them their abominations.	36 Quindi Jahvè mi disse: «Figlio dell'uomo, su, giudica Ohola e Oholiba, manifesta a esse i loro abomini;
37 For they committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; to feed them they immolated the children they had borne me.	37 perché sono adultere e c’è sangue nelle loro mani: hanno commesso adulterio con i loro idoli, per i quali fecero passare attraverso il fuoco perfino i figli che mi avevano generato.
38 (This, too, they did to me: they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my sabbaths.	38 Mi hanno fatto anche questo: hanno insieme contaminato il mio santuario e profanato i miei sabati.
39 On the very day they slew their children for their idols, they entered my sanctuary to desecrate it. Thus they acted within my house.)	39 Infatti, dopo avere sgozzato i figli per i loro idoli, venivano, nello stesso giorno, al mio santuario profanandolo; proprio così hanno fatto nella mia casa.
40 Moreover, they sent for men who had to come from afar, to whom messengers were sent. And so they came--and for them you bathed yourself, painted your eyes, and put on ornaments.	40 Mandavano perfino a cercare uomini provenienti da lontano, i quali vennero appena fu loro spedito un messaggero. Per essi ti sei lavata, ti sei imbellettata gli occhi, ti sei ornata di gioielli,
41 You sat on a couch prepared for them, with a table spread before it, on which you had set my incense and oil.	41 ti sei sdraiata su un letto sontuoso e, imbandita la mensa, vi hai posto sopra il mio profumo e il mio olio.
42 Then was heard the shout of a carefree mob in the city, and these were men brought in from the desert, who put bracelets on the women's arms and splendid diadems on their heads.	42 Con suoni rumorosi cantavano in essa e accanto agli uomini venuti dalle regioni popolose furono introdotti bevitori del deserto. Questi posero braccialetti ai polsi e un fulgido diadema sul capo delle due sorelle.
43 So I said: "Oh, this woman jaded with adulteries! Now they will commit whoredom with her, and as for her. . . ."	43 Dissi di costei, usa agli adulteri: “Ora compirà anch’essa le sue prostituzioni”.
44 And indeed they did come to her as men come to a harlot. Thus they came to Oholah and Oholibah, the lewd women.	44 Infatti, venivano da lei come si va da una prostituta; così venivano da Ohola e da Oholiba, femmine turpi.
45 But just men shall punish them with the sentence meted out to adulteresses and murderesses, for they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands.	45 Ma uomini giusti le condanneanno alla pena delle adultere e delle donne che versano sangue perché sono adultere e c’è sangue nelle loro mani».
46 Thus says the Lord GOD: Summon an assembly against them, and deliver them over to terror and plunder.	46 Perché così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Farò venire contro di esse una moltitudine, abbandonandole ai maltrattamenti e alla depredazione.
47 The assembly shall stone them and hack them to pieces with their swords. They shall slay their sons and daughters, and burn their houses with fire.	47 La moltitudine le lapiderà; le dilanieranno con le spade, sgozzeranno i loro figli e le loro figlie e daranno alle fiamme le loro case.
48 Thus I will put an end to lewdness in the land, and all the women will be warned not to imitate your lewdness.	48 Così farò sparire la scelleratezza del paese e tutte le donne accoglieranno il monito e non imiteranno la vostra spudoratezza.
49 They shall inflict on you the penalty of your lewdness, and you shall pay for your sins of idolatry. Thus you shall know that I am the LORD.	49 Vi addebiteranno la vostra scelleratezza: subirete la pena dei peccati con i vostri idoli e saprete che io sono Jahvè».
