1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 Cette parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
2 Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother,	2 “Fils d’homme, il y avait deux femmes, filles de la même mère.
3 who even as young girls played the harlot in Egypt. There the Egyptians caressed their bosoms and fondled their virginal breasts.	3 Dès leur jeunesse en Égypte elles se sont prostituées, on a porté la main sur leurs seins et l’on a caressé leur poitrine de jeunes filles.
4 Oholah was the name of the elder, and the name of her sister was Oholibah. They became mine and bore sons and daughters. (As for their names: Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.)	4 L’aînée s’appelait Ohola et sa sœur Oholiba; elles étaient à moi et m’ont donné des fils et des filles. Ohola, c’est Samarie; Oholiba, c’est Jérusalem.
5 Oholah became a harlot faithless to me; she lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians, warriors	5 Ohola m’a trompé: elle brûlait d’amour pour ses amants. C’étaient ses voisins Assyriens,
6 dressed in purple, governors and officers, all of them attractive young men, knights mounted on horses.	6 gouverneurs et fonctionnaires vêtus de pourpre, jeunes et beaux sur leurs chevaux.
7 Thus she gave herself as a harlot to them, to all the elite of the Assyrians, and she defiled herself with all those for whom she lusted (with all their idols).	7 C’est avec eux qu’elle m’a trompé, avec ces Assyriens de haute classe. Elle brûlait d’amour pour eux, et du même coup elle se souillait avec leurs idoles.
8 She did not give up the harlotry which she had begun in Egypt, when they had lain with her as a young girl, fondling her virginal breasts and pouring out their impurities on her.	8 Elle n’avait pas oublié sa jeunesse et ses prostitutions avec les Égyptiens, lorsqu’ils couchaient avec elle, tripotaient ses seins et l’entraînaient dans leur débauche.
9 Therefore I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians for whom she had lusted.	9 C’est pourquoi je l’ai livrée aux mains de ses amants, aux mains des Assyriens pour qui elle avait brûlé d’amour.
10 They exposed her nakedness, her sons and daughters they took away, and herself they slew with the sword. Thus she became a byword for women, for they punished her grievously.	10 Ils l’ont mise nue, ils ont pris ses fils et ses filles et l’ont tuée par l’épée; elle est devenue fameuse parmi les femmes à cause du châtiment qu’on lui avait infligé.
11 Though her sister Oholibah saw all this, her lust was more depraved than her sister's, and she outdid her in harlotry.	11 Sa sœur Oholiba en a été témoin, mais ses débauches et ses prostitutions ont dépassé celles de sa sœur.
12 She too lusted after the Assyrians, governors and officers, warriors impeccably clothed, knights mounted on horses, all of them attractive young men.	12 Elle aussi a brûlé d’amour pour ses voisins Assyriens, ces gouverneurs et chefs richement habillés, jeunes et beaux sur leurs chevaux.
13 I saw that she had defiled herself. Both had gone down the same path,	13 J’ai vu comment elle se souillait; toutes deux suivaient le même chemin.
14 yet she went further in her harlotry. When she saw men drawn on the wall, the images of Chaldeans drawn with vermillion,	14 Elle a fait mieux encore dans sa prostitution lorsqu’elle a vu des images de Kaldéens peintes en rouge, de ces hommes qu’on voit dessinés sur le mur
15 with sashes girded about their waists, flowing turbans on their heads, all looking like chariot warriors, the portraits of Babylonians, natives of Chaldea,	15 avec des ceintures sur les reins et de larges turbans sur leur têtes, tous ces hommes d’allure martiale dont la Kaldée est la terre natale.
16 she lusted for them; no sooner had she set eyes on them than she sent messengers to them in Chaldea.	16 Aussitôt qu’elle les a vus, elle a brûlé de désir pour eux: elle a envoyé des messagers vers eux en Kaldée.
17 Then the Babylonians came to her, to the love couch, and defiled her with their intercourse. As soon as she was defiled by them, she became disgusted with them.	17 Les fils de Babylone sont venus la souiller par leurs prostitutions; mais une fois souillée par eux, son cœur s’est détaché d’eux.
18 Her harlotry was discovered and her shame was revealed, and I became disgusted with her as I had become disgusted with her sister.	18 Mais comme elle s’était donnée et avait découvert sa nudité, mon cœur aussi s’était détaché d’elle comme il s’était détaché de sa sœur.
19 But she played the harlot all the more, recalling the days of her girlhood, when she had been a harlot in the land of Egypt.	19 Oui, tu multipliais tes prostitutions, tu revivais ta jeunesse, le temps où tu te prostituais en Égypte.
20 She lusted for the lechers of Egypt, whose members are like that of an ass, and whose heat is like that of stallions.	20 Tu as brûlé de désir pour des débauchés qui s’échauffent comme des ânes et dont le sexe vaut celui des chevaux.
21 You yearned for the lewdness of your girlhood, when the Egyptians fondled your breasts, caressing your bosom.	21 Oui, Jérusalem, tu revenais au dévergondage de ta jeunesse, lorsque les Égyptiens caressaient ta poitrine et passaient leurs mains sur tes seins.
22 Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD: I will now stir up your lovers against you, those with whom you are disgusted, and I will bring them against you from every side:	22 C’est pourquoi, Oholiba, voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je vais exciter contre toi tes amants dont ton cœur s’est détaché; je les rassemblerai contre toi de tous côtés.
23 the men of Babylon and all of Chaldea, Pekod, Shoa and Koa, along with all those of Assyria, attractive young men, all of them governors and officers, charioteers and warriors, all of them horsemen.	23 Babyloniens et Kaldéens, gens de Pékod, de Choa et de Koa, et avec eux tous les Assyriens, jeunes et beaux, gouverneurs et fonctionnaires, officiers renommés et cavaliers entraînés.
24 They shall come against you from the north with chariots and wagons and many peoples. Shields, bucklers, and helmets they shall array against you everywhere.	24 Des peuples coalisés viendront du Nord pour t’assaillir avec chars et chariots. De tous côtés, ils arriveront contre toi avec boucliers, armes et casques; je les chargerai de te juger et ils te jugeront selon leurs lois.
25 I will leave it to them to judge, and they will judge you by their own ordinances. I will let loose my jealousy against you, so that they shall deal with you in fury, cutting off your nose and ears; and what is left of you shall fall by the sword. They shall take away your sons and daughters, and what is left of you shall be devoured by fire.	25 Je laisserai libre cours à ma jalousie contre toi: ils te traiteront cruellement, ils te couperont le nez et les oreilles, et ce qui restera des tiens tombera par l’épée. Ils prendront tes fils et tes filles, et les survivants seront dévorés par le feu.
26 They shall strip off your clothes and seize your splendid ornaments.	26 Ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements et prendront tes bijoux;
27 I will put an end to your lewdness and to the harlotry you began in Egypt; you shall no longer look toward it, nor shall you remember Egypt again.	27 ainsi je mettrai fin à ton inconduite et à tes prostitutions commencées en Égypte. Tu ne regarderas plus vers eux et tu ne penseras plus à l’Égypte.
28 For thus says the Lord GOD: I am now handing you over to those whom you hate, to those who fill you with disgust.	28 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je vais te livrer aux mains de ceux que tu détestes, aux mains de ceux dont ton cœur s’est détourné.
29 They shall deal with you in hatred, seizing all that you have worked for and leaving you stark naked, so that your indecent nakedness is exposed. Your lewdness and harlotry	29 Dans leur haine ils te maltraiteront, ils s’empareront de tout le fruit de ton travail et te laisseront nue; alors tes prostitutions, tes débauches et ton inconduite seront étalées à ta honte.
30 have brought these things upon you, because you played the harlot with the nations by defiling yourself with their idols.	30 Tout cela t’arrivera parce que tu t’es prostituée avec les nations et que tu t’es souillée avec leurs sales idoles.
31 Because you followed in the path of your sister, I will hand you her cup.	31 Puisque tu as pris le chemin de ta sœur, je mettrai aussi sa coupe dans ta main.
32 Thus says the Lord GOD: The cup of your sister you shall drink, so wide and deep, which holds so much,	32 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Tu boiras la coupe de ta sœur, une coupe large et profonde, de grande capacité.
33 Filled with destruction and grief, a cup of dismay, the cup of your sister.	33 Tu te rempliras d’ivresse et d’angoisse, car la coupe de ta sœur n’est que ravages.
34 You shall drain it dry, and gnaw at the very sherds of the cup, and you shall tear out your breasts; for I have spoken, says the Lord GOD.	34 Tu la boiras jusqu’au bout, tu en avaleras les tessons; c’est moi qui le dis, parole de Yahvé.”
35 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, it is for you to bear the penalty of your lewdness and harlotry.	35 Et voici une parole de Yahvé: “Puisque tu m’as oublié et que tu t’es détournée de moi, tu porteras le poids de ta honte et de tes prostitutions.”
36 Then the LORD said to me: Son of man, would you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then make known to them their abominations.	36 Yahvé me dit encore: “Fils d’homme, veux-tu juger Ohola et Oholiba et leur reprocher leurs crimes?
37 For they committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; to feed them they immolated the children they had borne me.	37 Elles ont été adultères, leurs mains sont pleines de sang, elles ont commis l’adultère avec leurs sales idoles, elles ont fait passer par le feu les enfants qu’elles m’avaient enfantés.
38 (This, too, they did to me: they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my sabbaths.	38 En même temps qu’elles agissaient ainsi, elles venaient souiller mon Temple et profanaient mes sabbats:
39 On the very day they slew their children for their idols, they entered my sanctuary to desecrate it. Thus they acted within my house.)	39 elles immolaient leurs enfants à leurs idoles, et puis elles venaient profaner mon Temple. Voilà ce qu’elles ont fait dans ma Maison.
40 Moreover, they sent for men who had to come from afar, to whom messengers were sent. And so they came--and for them you bathed yourself, painted your eyes, and put on ornaments.	40 Elles ont fait venir des hommes de pays lointains, elles leur ont envoyé un messager et ils sont venus… Tu t’étais baignée pour eux, tu t’étais maquillé les yeux et tu avais mis tes bijoux.
41 You sat on a couch prepared for them, with a table spread before it, on which you had set my incense and oil.	41 Puis tu t’es assise sur un lit d’apparat; sur le devant on avait dressé une table, et tu avais déposé mon encens et mon huile.
42 Then was heard the shout of a carefree mob in the city, and these were men brought in from the desert, who put bracelets on the women's arms and splendid diadems on their heads.	42 On entendait le bruit d’une foule en fête à laquelle se joignaient des hommes venus du désert; ils mettaient des bracelets aux mains des femmes et de splendides couronnes sur leurs têtes.
43 So I said: "Oh, this woman jaded with adulteries! Now they will commit whoredom with her, and as for her. . . ."	43 Alors j’ai dit de cette ville usée par la débauche: “Quelle prostituée!
44 And indeed they did come to her as men come to a harlot. Thus they came to Oholah and Oholibah, the lewd women.	44 On va chez elle comme on va chez une prostituée.” Et c’est bien ainsi qu’on est allé chez Ohola et Oholiba pour faire le mal.
45 But just men shall punish them with the sentence meted out to adulteresses and murderesses, for they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands.	45 Ils agiront avec justice, ceux qui lui appliqueront la sentence qui convient aux femmes adultères, la condamnation réservée à celles qui versent le sang! Car elles sont réellement adultères et elles ont du sang sur leurs mains.
46 Thus says the Lord GOD: Summon an assembly against them, and deliver them over to terror and plunder.	46 Oui, voici ce que dit Yahvé: Convoquez une assemblée, livrez-les à la terreur et au pillage.
47 The assembly shall stone them and hack them to pieces with their swords. They shall slay their sons and daughters, and burn their houses with fire.	47 L’assemblée les lapidera et les frappera de l’épée, on tuera leurs fils et leurs filles et on brûlera leurs maisons.
48 Thus I will put an end to lewdness in the land, and all the women will be warned not to imitate your lewdness.	48 Ainsi je mettrai un terme à la débauche dans le pays; ce sera une leçon pour toutes les femmes, pour qu’elles ne commettent pas les mêmes fautes.
49 They shall inflict on you the penalty of your lewdness, and you shall pay for your sins of idolatry. Thus you shall know that I am the LORD.	49 Je ferai retomber sur toi ta débauche et tu porteras le poids des péchés commis avec tes idoles: alors tu sauras que je suis Yahvé.
