1 In the seventh month Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of royal descent, one of the king's nobles, came with ten men to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. And while they were together at table in Mizpah,	1 Il settimo mese Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, figliuolo di Efisama,che era della stirpe reale, con de' grandi del regno, cioè, con dieci uomini andò a trovar Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam in Masphath, e mangiarono alla stessa mensa in Masphath.
2 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and the ten who were with him, rose up and attacked with swords Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler over the land; and they killed him.	2 E si alzò Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, e i dieci uomini, che eran con lui, e uccisero Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam, figliuolo di Saphan, e dieder morte a colui, il quale dal re di Babilonia era stato posto al governo del paese.
3 Ishmael also slew all the men of Judah of military age who were with Gedaliah and the Chaldean soldiers who were there.	3 E Ismaele uccise eziandio i Giudei, che erano in Masphath con Godolia, equanti Caldei vi si trovarono, e gli uomini di valore.

6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went.	6 Ismaele adunque figliuolo di Nathania andò incontro a questa gente da Masphath, e camminava piangendo: e incontratili, disse loro: Venite da Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam.
7 "Come to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam," he said as he met them. When they were once inside the city, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and his men slew them and threw them into the cistern.	7 E quando quegli furono nel mezzo della città, Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, e quegli uomini, che erano con lui, gli uccisero nel mezzo della cisterna.
8 But there were ten among them who pleaded with Ishmael: "Do not kill us; we have stores buried in the field: wheat and barley, oil and honey." 9 The cistern into which Ishmael threw all the corpses of the men he had killed was the large one made by King Asa to defend himself against Baasha, king of Israel; this cistern Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, filled with the slain.	9 E la cisterna, nella quale Ismaele gettò tutti i cadaveri di quella gente ammazzata da lui a cagione di Godolia, ella è quella stessa, che fu fatta dal re Asa a cagione di Baasa re d'Israele: e questa la riempiè Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania di corpi uccisi.
10 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, led away the remnant of the people left in Mizpah and the princesses, whom Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had confided to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam. With these captives, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, set out to make his way to the Ammonites.	10 E fece prigioni tutti gli avanzi del popolo, che erano in Masphath, le figlie del re, e tutto il popolo, che era restato in Masphath, i quali da Nabuzardan capitano della milizia erano stati raccomandati a Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam. 13 At the sight of Johanan, son of Kareah, and the other army leaders, the people who were Ishmael's captives rejoiced.	13 E quando il popolo, che era con Ismaele, ebbe veduto Johanan figliuolo di Caree, e tutti i capi delle milizie, che venivan con lui, si rallegrarono tutti.
14 All of those whom Ishmael had brought away from Mizpah went over to Johanan, son of Kareah.	14 E tutta la gente, che era stata fatta prigione da Ismaele, se ne tornò a Masphath, e si diede a seguitare Johanan figliuolo di Caree.

16 Then Johanan, son of Kareah, and all his army leaders took charge of the remnant of the people, both the soldiers and the women and children with their guardians, whom Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had brought away from Mizpah after he killed Gedaliah, son of Ahikim. From Gibeon,	16 Johanan adunque figliuolo di Caree, con tutti i capi delle milizie, che eran con lui, prese a Masphath tutti gli avanzi della plebe, che egli avea ritolti ad Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, dopo che questi ebbe ucciso Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam: e prese gli uomini buoni per la guerra, e le donne, e i fanciulli, e gli eunuchi, che avea ricondotti da Gabaon,
17 they retreated to the lodging place of Chimham near Bethlehem, where they stopped, intending to flee into Egypt.	17 E se n'andarono, e si posarono di gassaggio in Chamaam, che è vicino a Bethlehem, per andar innanzi, ed entrar nell'Egitto,
18 They were afraid of the Chaldeans, because Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had slain Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler in the land of Judah.	18 Fuggendo i Caldei; imperocché avean paura di essi, per avere Ismaele figljuolo di Nathania ucciso Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam, posto dal re di Babilonia al governo della terra di Giuda.
