1 In the seventh month Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of royal descent, one of the king's nobles, came with ten men to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. And while they were together at table in Mizpah,	1 Or, au cours du septième mois, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, fils d’Élichama, qui était de la famille royale, arriva avec dix hommes pour rencontrer Godolias fils d’Ahikam à Mispa. 2 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and the ten who were with him, rose up and attacked with swords Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler over the land; and they killed him.	2 et c’est alors qu’Ismaël, fils de Nétanya et les dix hommes qui étaient avec lui se levèrent pour frapper de leur épée Godolias fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, que le roi de Babylone avait établi sur le pays.
3 Ishmael also slew all the men of Judah of military age who were with Gedaliah and the Chaldean soldiers who were there.	3 Ismaël frappa aussi tous les Judéens qui étaient avec Godolias à Mispa, ainsi que les Kaldéens qui se trouvaient là, tous hommes de guerre.

7 "Come to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam," he said as he met them. When they were once inside the city, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and his men slew them and threw them into the cistern.	7 Mais comme ils arrivaient au milieu de la ville, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, avec la troupe qui l’accompagnait, entreprit d’égorger ces hommes au-dessus de la citerne.
8 But there were ten among them who pleaded with Ishmael: "Do not kill us; we have stores buried in the field: wheat and barley, oil and honey." And so he spared them and did not kill them, as he had killed their companions.	8 Une dizaine d’entre eux dirent à Ismaël: “Ne nous fais pas mourir! Nous avons des provisions cachées dans la campagne, du blé, de l’orge, de l’huile et du miel.” Alors Ismaël arrêta le massacre et ils ne furent pas mis à mort comme leurs frères.
9 The cistern into which Ishmael threw all the corpses of the men he had killed was the large one made by King Asa to defend himself against Baasha, king of Israel; this cistern Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, filled with the slain.	9 La citerne où Ismaël jeta les cadavres de ces hommes qu’il avait tués, était la grande citerne que le roi Aza avait fait creuser à cause de Bacha, roi d’Israël. Ismaël fils de Nétanya la remplit de ses victimes.
10 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, led away the remnant of the people left in Mizpah and the princesses, whom Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had confided to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam. With these captives, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, set out to make his way to the Ammonites.	10 Puis Ismaël emmena vers l’exil tout le reste du peuple qui était à Mispa, avec les filles du roi et tous ceux du peuple qui étaient encore à Mispa; tous ceux que Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, avait confiés à Godolias fils d’Ahikam. 11 But when Johanan, son of Kareah, and the other army leaders with him heard of the crimes Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had committed,	11 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui apprirent tout le mal qu’Ismaël fils de Nétanya avait fait.
12 they took all their men and set out to attack Ishmael, son of Nethaniah. They overtook him at the Great Waters in Gibeon.	12 Ils prirent tous leurs hommes et allèrent attaquer Ismaël fils de Nétanya; ils le rencontrèrent aux Grandes-Eaux de Gabaon.
13 At the sight of Johanan, son of Kareah, and the other army leaders, the people who were Ishmael's captives rejoiced.	13 En apercevant Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui l’accompagnaient, ceux qui étaient avec Ismaël furent remplis de joie.
14 All of those whom Ishmael had brought away from Mizpah went over to Johanan, son of Kareah.	14 Tous le peuple qu’Ismaël emmenait de Mispa vers l’exil changea de camp; ils se retournèrent et partirent vers Yohanan fils de Karéa.
15 But Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, escaped from Johanan and fled to the Ammonites with eight men.	15 Quant à Ismaël fils de Nétanya, il prit la fuite devant Yohanan et arriva chez les Ammonites avec huit hommes.
16 Then Johanan, son of Kareah, and all his army leaders took charge of the remnant of the people, both the soldiers and the women and children with their guardians, whom Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had brought away from Mizpah after he killed Gedaliah, son of Ahikim. From Gibeon,	16 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui prirent avec eux le reste du peuple qu’ils avaient repris à Ismaël fils de Nétanya: c’était ceux qu’il avait emmenés de Mispa après avoir tué Godolias fils d’Ahikam; il y avait là des hommes de guerre, des femmes, des petits enfants et des eunuques qu’il avait ramenés de Gabaon.
17 they retreated to the lodging place of Chimham near Bethlehem, where they stopped, intending to flee into Egypt.	17 Ils se mirent en route et s’arrêtèrent au Khan de Kimhan, près de Bethléem; ensuite ils voulurent gagner l’Égypte
18 They were afraid of the Chaldeans, because Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had slain Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler in the land of Judah.	18 à cause des Kaldéens.
