Jeremiah 41

1 In the seventh month Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of royal descent, one of the king's nobles, came with ten men to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. And while they were together at table in Mizpah,	1 Ora, nel settimo mese, Ismaele, figlio di Netania, figlio di Elisamà, di stirpe regale, si recò con dieci uomini da Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, a Mispa, e mentre là a Mispa prendevano cibo insieme,
2 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and the ten who were with him, rose up and attacked with swords Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler over the land; and they killed him.	2 Ismaele, figlio di Netania, si alzò con i suoi dieci uomini e colpì di spada Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safan. Così uccisero colui che il re di Babilonia aveva messo a capo del paese.
3 Ishmael also slew all the men of Judah of military age who were with Gedaliah and the Chaldean soldiers who were there.	3 Ismaele uccise anche tutti i Giudei che erano con Godolia a Mispa e i Caldei, tutti uomini d’arme, che si trovavano là.
4 The second day after the murder of Gedaliah, before anyone knew of it,	4 Due giorni dopo l’uccisione di Godolia, quando nessuno sapeva della cosa,
5 eighty men with beards shaved off, clothes in rags, and with gashes on their bodies came from Shechem, Shiloh, and Samaria, bringing food offerings and incense for the house of the LORD.	5 giunsero uomini da Sichem, da Silo e da Samaria: ottanta uomini con la barba rasa, le vesti stracciate e con incisioni sul corpo. 6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went.	6 Ismaele, figlio di Netania, uscì loro incontro da Mispa, mentre essi venivano avanti piangendo. Quando li ebbe raggiunti, disse loro: «Venite da Godolia, figlio di Achikàm».
7 "Come to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam," he said as he met them. When they were once inside the city, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and his men slew them and threw them into the cistern.	7 Ma quando giunsero nel centro della città, Ismaele, figlio di Netania, con i suoi uomini li sgozzò e li gettò in una cisterna.
8 But there were ten among them who pleaded with Ishmael: "Do not kill us; we have stores buried in the field: wheat and barley, oil and honey." And so he spared them and did not kill them, as he had killed their companions.	8 Fra quelli si trovavano dieci uomini, che dissero a Ismaele: «Non ucciderci, perché abbiamo nascosto provviste nei campi: grano, orzo, olio e miele». Allora egli si trattenne e non li uccise insieme con i loro fratelli.
9 The cistern into which Ishmael threw all the corpses of the men he had killed was the large one made by King Asa to defend himself against Baasha, king of Israel; this cistern Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, filled with the slain.	9 La cisterna in cui Ismaele gettò tutti i cadaveri degli uomini che aveva ucciso era la cisterna grande, quella che il re Asa aveva costruito quando era in guerra contro Baasà, re d’Israele; Ismaele, figlio di Netania, la riempì dei cadaveri.
10 Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, led away the remnant of the people left in Mizpah and the princesses, whom Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had confided to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam. With these captives, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, set out to make his way to the Ammonites.	10 Poi Ismaele fece prigioniero il resto del popolo che si trovava a Mispa, le figlie del re e tutto il popolo rimasto a Mispa, su cui Nabuzaradàn, capo delle guardie, aveva messo a capo Godolia, figlio di Achikàm. Ismaele, figlio di Netania, li condusse via e partì per rifugiarsi presso gli Ammoniti.
11 But when Johanan, son of Kareah, and the other army leaders with him heard of the crimes Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had committed,	11 Intanto Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui ebbero notizia di tutto il male compiuto da Ismaele, figlio di Netania.
12 they took all their men and set out to attack Ishmael, son of Nethaniah. They overtook him at the Great Waters in Gibeon.	12 Raccolsero i loro uomini e si mossero per andare ad assalire Ismaele, figlio di Netania. Essi lo trovarono presso la grande piscina di Gàbaon.
13 At the sight of Johanan, son of Kareah, and the other army leaders, the people who were Ishmael's captives rejoiced.	13 Appena tutto il popolo che era con Ismaele vide Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui, se ne rallegrò.
14 All of those whom Ishmael had brought away from Mizpah went over to Johanan, son of Kareah.	14 Tutto il popolo che Ismaele aveva condotto via da Mispa si voltò e, ritornato indietro, raggiunse Giovanni, figlio di Karèach.
15 But Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, escaped from Johanan and fled to the Ammonites with eight men.	15 Ma Ismaele, figlio di Netania, sfuggì con otto uomini a Giovanni e andò presso gli Ammoniti.
16 Then Johanan, son of Kareah, and all his army leaders took charge of the remnant of the people, both the soldiers and the women and children with their guardians, whom Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had brought away from Mizpah after he killed Gedaliah, son of Ahikim. From Gibeon,	16 Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui presero tutto il resto del popolo che Ismaele, figlio di Netania, aveva condotto via da Mispa dopo aver ucciso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, uomini d’arme, donne, fanciulli e cortigiani, e li condussero via da Gàbaon.
17 they retreated to the lodging place of Chimham near Bethlehem, where they stopped, intending to flee into Egypt.	17 Essi partirono e sostarono a Gherut-Chimàm, che si trova vicino a Betlemme, per proseguire ed entrare in Egitto,
18 They were afraid of the Chaldeans, because Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, had slain Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made ruler in the land of Judah.	18 lontano dai Caldei. Avevano infatti paura di loro, poiché Ismaele, figlio di Netania, aveva ucciso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, che il re di Babilonia aveva messo a capo del paese.
