The LORD said to Moses,1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
"This is the law for the victim of leprosy at the time of his purification. He shall be brought to the priest,2 This is the rite for a leper, when he is to be cleansed. He shall be brought to the priest,
who is to go outside the camp to examine him. If the priest finds that the sore of leprosy has healed in the leper,3 who, departing from the camp, when he has found the leprosy to be cleansed,
he shall order the man who is to be purified, to get two live, clean birds, as well as some cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop.4 shall instruct him who is to be purified to offer for himself two living sparrows, which it is lawful to eat, and cedar wood, and vermillion, and hyssop.
The priest shall then order him to slay one of the birds over an earthen vessel with spring water in it.5 And he shall order that one of the sparrows be immolated in an earthen vessel over living waters.
Taking the living bird with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, the priest shall dip them all in the blood of the bird that was slain over the spring water,6 But the other living one, with the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, he shall dip in the blood of the immolated sparrow.
and then sprinkle seven times the man to be purified from his leprosy. When he has thus purified him, he shall let the living bird fly away over the countryside.7 And he shall sprinkle him who is to be cleansed seven times, so that he may be purified justly. And he shall release the living sparrow, so that it may fly away into the field.
The man being purified shall then wash his garments and shave off all his hair and bathe in water; only when he is thus made clean may he come inside the camp; but he shall still remain outside his tent for seven days.8 And when the man will have washed his clothes, he shall shave all the hair from his body, and he shall be washed with water. And having been purified, he shall enter into the camp, only to this extent: that he may remain outside his own tent for seven days.
On the seventh day he shall again shave off all the hair of his head, his beard, his eyebrows, and any other hair he may have, and also wash his garments and bathe his body in water; and so he will be clean.9 And on the seventh day he shall shave the hair of his head, and his beard, and his eyebrows, as well as the hair of his entire body. And having washed his clothes again, and his body,
"On the eighth day he shall take two unblemished male lambs, one unblemished yearling ewe lamb, three tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil for a cereal offering, and one log of oil.10 on the eighth day, he shall take two immaculate lambs, and a one-year-old female sheep without blemish, and three tenths of fine wheat flour, which has been sprinkled with oil, as a sacrifice, and separately, one twelfth hin of oil.
The priest who performs the purification ceremony shall place the man who is being purified, as well as all these offerings, before the LORD at the entrance of the meeting tent.11 And when the priest purifying the man has presented him and all these things in the sight of the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony,
Taking one of the male lambs, the priest shall present it as a guilt offering, along with the log of oil, waving them as a wave offering before the LORD.12 he shall take a lamb and offer it for transgression, with the twelfth hin of oil. And having offered all these before the Lord,
(This lamb he shall slaughter in the sacred place where the sin offering and the holocaust are slaughtered; because, like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest and is most sacred.)13 he shall immolate the lamb, where the victim for sin is usually immolated with the holocaust, that is, in the holy place. For just as with the one for sin, so also the victim for transgression belongs to the priest. It is the Holy of holies.
Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the tip of the man's right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot.14 And taking some of the blood of the victim, which was immolated for transgression, the priest shall place it upon the tip of the right ear of him who is being cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and likewise the foot.
The priest shall also take the log of oil and pour some of it into the palm of his own left hand;15 And he shall send some of the twelfth hin of oil into his own left hand,
then, dipping his right forefinger in it, he shall sprinkle it seven times before the LORD.16 and he shall dip his right finger in it, and he shall sprinkle it in the sight of the Lord seven times.
Of the oil left in his hand the priest shall put some on the tip of the man's right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot, over the blood of the guilt offering.17 But the oil which remains in his left hand, he shall pour over the tip of the right ear of him who is being cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand as well as the foot, and upon the blood which was shed for transgression,
The rest of the oil in his hand the priest shall put on the head of the man being purified. Thus shall the priest make atonement for him before the LORD.18 and upon his head.
Only after he has offered the sin offering in atonement for the man's uncleanness shall the priest slaughter the holocaust19 And he shall pray for him in the sight of the Lord, and he shall accomplish the sacrifice on behalf of sin. Then he shall immolate the holocaust,
and offer it, together with the cereal offering, on the altar before the LORD. When the priest has thus made atonement for him, the man will be clean.20 and place it upon the altar with its libations, and the man will be duly cleansed.
"If a man is poor and cannot afford so much, he shall take one male lamb for a guilt offering, to be used as a wave offering in atonement for himself, one tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil for a cereal offering, a log of oil,21 But if he is poor, and his hand is not able to find what has been said, he shall take a lamb as an offering for transgression, so that the priest may pray for him, and a tenth part of fine wheat flour sprinkled with oil, as a sacrifice, and a twelfth hin of oil,
and two turtledoves or pigeons, which he can more easily afford, the one as a sin offering and the other as a holocaust.22 and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, of which one may be for sin, and the other as a holocaust.
On the eighth day of his purification he shall bring them to the priest, at the entrance of the meeting tent before the LORD.23 And he shall offer them on the eighth day of his purification to the priest at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony in the sight of the Lord.
Taking the guilt-offering lamb, along with the log of oil, the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD.24 And he, receiving the lamb for transgression, and the twelfth hin of oil, shall lift them up together.
When he has slaughtered the guilt-offering lamb, he shall take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear of the man being purified, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.25 And when the lamb has been immolated, he shall place some of its blood upon the tip of the right ear of him who is being cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, as well as the foot.
The priest shall then pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand26 Yet truly, he shall send part of the oil into his own left hand,
and with his right forefinger sprinkle it seven times before the LORD.27 and dipping the finger of his right hand in it, he shall sprinkle it seven times before the Lord.
Some of the oil in his hand the priest shall also put on the tip of the man's right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot, over the blood of the guilt offering.28 And he shall touch the tip of the right ear of him who is being cleansed, and the thumb of his right hand, as well as the foot, in the place of the blood which was shed for transgression.
The rest of the oil in his hand the priest shall put on the man's head. Thus shall he make atonement for him before the LORD.29 But the remaining part of the oil which is in his left hand, he shall send upon the head of the one being purified, to appease the Lord on his behalf.
Then, of the turtledoves or pigeons, such as the man can afford,30 And he shall offer a turtledove or a young pigeon,
the priest shall offer up one as a sin offering and the other as a holocaust, along with the cereal offering. Thus shall the priest make atonement before the LORD for the man who is to be purified.31 one for transgression, and the other as a holocaust, with their libations.
This is the law for one afflicted with leprosy who has insufficient means for his purification."32 This is the sacrifice of a leper, who is not able to obtain all of the things concerning his cleansing.
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,33 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
"When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you to possess, if I put a leprous infection on any house of the land you occupy,34 When you will have entered into the land of Canaan, which I will give to you as a possession, if there is the mark of leprosy in a building,
the owner of the house shall come and report to the priest, 'It looks to me as if my house were infected.'35 he whose house it is shall go and report to the priest, saying: “It seems to me that the mark of leprosy is in my house.”
The priest shall then order the house to be cleared out before he goes in to examine the infection, lest everything in the house become unclean. Only after this is he to go in to examine the house.36 And he shall instruct them to carry all things out of the house, before he would enter it and see whether it is leprosy, lest all that is in the house become unclean. And after this, he shall enter to examine the leprosy of the house.
If the priest, on examining it, finds that the infection on the walls of the house consists of greenish or reddish depressions which seem to go deeper than the surface of the wall,37 And when he will have seen in its walls something like little hollows, deformed with paleness or redness, and lower than the remaining surface,
he shall close the door of the house behind him and quarantine the house for seven days.38 he shall exit by the door of the house, and immediately close it up for seven days.
On the seventh day the priest shall return to examine the house again. If he finds that the infection has spread on the walls,39 And returning on the seventh day, he shall examine it. If he finds that the leprosy has spread,
he shall order the infected stones to be pulled out and cast in an unclean place outside the city.40 he shall order the stones in which the leprosy is, to be dug out and cast outside the city in an unclean place,
The whole inside of the house shall then be scraped, and the mortar that has been scraped off shall be dumped in an unclean place outside the city.41 and that the house be scraped on the inside all around, and that the dust of the scrapings be scattered outside the city in an unclean place,
Then new stones shall be brought and put in the place of the old stones, and new mortar shall be made and plastered on the house.42 and that other stones be put back, in place of those which had been taken away, and that the house be plastered with other mortar.
"If the infection breaks out once more after the stones have been pulled out and the house has been scraped and replastered,43 But if, after the stones have been dug out, and the dust wiped away, and it is plastered with other clay,
the priest shall come again; and if he finds that the infection has spread in the house, it is corrosive leprosy, and the house is unclean.44 the priest, upon entering, will have seen that the leprosy has returned, and that the walls are sprinkled with spots, then it is a persistent leprosy and the house is unclean.
It shall be pulled down, and all its stones, beams and mortar shall be hauled away to an unclean place outside the city.45 And so they shall promptly destroy it, and shall cast its stones and timber, and also all the dust, outside the town in an unclean place.
Whoever enters a house while it is quarantined shall be unclean until evening.46 Whoever enters into the house when it is closed up shall be unclean until evening.
Whoever sleeps or eats in such a house shall also wash his garments.47 And whoever will have slept in it, or eaten anything, shall wash his clothes.
If the priest finds, when he comes to examine the house, that the infection has in fact not spread after the plastering, he shall declare the house clean, since the infection has been healed.48 But if the priest, upon entering, will have seen that the leprosy has not spread in the house, after it had been newly plastered, he shall purify it, restoring it to health.
To purify the house, he shall take two birds, as well as cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop.49 And for its purification, he shall take two sparrows, and cedar wood, and vermillion, as well as hyssop,
One of the birds he shall slay over an earthen vessel with spring water in it.50 and, having immolated one sparrow in an earthen vessel over living waters,
Then, taking the cedar wood, the hyssop and the scarlet yarn, together with the living bird, he shall dip them all in the blood of the slain bird and the spring water, and sprinkle the house seven times.51 he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living sparrow, and he shall dip all these in the blood of the immolated sparrow, and also in the living water, and he shall sprinkle the house seven times.
Thus shall he purify the house with the bird's blood and the spring water, along with the living bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the scarlet yarn.52 And he shall purify it as much with the blood of the sparrow as with the living water, and with the living sparrow, and the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the vermillion.
He shall then let the living bird fly away over the countryside outside the city. When he has thus made atonement for it, the house will be clean.53 And when he has released the sparrow to fly freely away into the field, he shall pray for the house, and it shall be justly cleansed.
"This is the law for every kind of human leprosy and scall,54 This is the law of every kind of leprosy and plague:
for leprosy of garments and houses,55 of the leprosy of garments and houses,
as well as for scabs, pustules and blotches,56 of scars and erupting pustules, of a shining spot, when the appearance is also variegated,
so that it may be manifest when there is a state of uncleanness and when a state of cleanness. This is the law for leprosy."57 so that it can be known at what time a thing is clean or unclean.
