1 Oracle on the wastelands by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping in waves through the Negeb, there comes from the desert, from the fearful land,	1 Oracolo sul deserto del mare. Come i turbini che si scatenano nel Negheb, viene egli dal deserto, da una terra orribile.
2 A cruel sight, revealed to me: the traitor betrays, the despoiler spoils. "Go up, Elam; besiege, O Media; I will put an end to all groaning!"	2 Una penosa visione mi è stata mostrata: il rapinatore rapisce e il distruttore distrugge. Ascendi, o Elam, poni l'assedio, o Media! Ho fatto cessare tutti i tuoi gemiti.
3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish, pangs have seized me like those of a woman in labor; I am too bewildered to hear, too dismayed to look.	3 Per questo i miei reni sono in preda alle convulsioni; mi prendono i dolori come quelli della partoriente, sono troppo sconvolto per udirlo, troppo turbato per vederlo.
4 My mind reels, shuddering assails me; My yearning for twilight has turned into dread.	4 Il mio cuore si è smarrito, mi ha invaso l'orrore; il vespro tanto sospirato diventa il mio terrore.
5 They set the table, spread out the rugs; they eat, they drink. Rise up, O princes, oil the shield!	5 Si prepara la tavola, si stende il tappeto, si mangia e si beve... "Alzatevi, o capi, ungete gli scudi!".
6 For thus says my Lord to me: Go, station a watchman, let him tell what he sees.	6 Perché così mi ha parlato il Signore: "Va', poni una sentinella che annunci ciò che vedi".
7 If he sees a chariot, a pair of horses, Someone riding an ass, someone riding a camel, Then let him pay heed, very close heed.	7 Vedrà una carovana, delle coppie di cavalieri, uomini montati su asini, uomini montati su cammelli, e osserverà con attenzione, con grande attenzione.
8 Then the watchman cried, "On the watchtower, O my Lord, I stand constantly by day; And I stay at my post through all the watches of the night.	8 Allora il veggente gridò: "Signore, al posto di osservazione sto tutto il giorno; sul mio posto di guardia sto ritto tutte le notti.
9 Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.'"	9 Ecco qui che giunge una carovana umana, coppie di cavalieri". Esclamano e dicono: "E' caduta, è caduta Babilonia! Tutte le statue dei suoi dèi sono frantumate a terra".
10 O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I have announced to you.	10 O popolo mio, che ho trebbiato e calpestato nella mia aia, ciò che ho appreso dal Signore degli eserciti, dal Dio d'Israele, io te lo annunzio!.
11 Oracle on Edom: They call to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much longer the night? Watchman, how much longer the night?"	11 Oracolo su Edom. Mi gridano da Seir: "Sentinella, che resta della notte? sentinella, che resta della notte?".
12 The watchman replies, "Morning has come, and again night. If you will ask, ask; come back again."	12 Risponde la sentinella: "Viene il mattino e poi la notte; se volete domandare, domandate, convertitevi e venite".
13 Oracle on Arabia: In the thicket in the nomad country spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.	13 Oracolo sulla Steppa. Nel bosco della steppa pernottate, carovane dei Dedaniti.
14 Meet the thirsty, bring them water; you who dwell in the land of Tema, greet the fugitives with bread.	14 Incontrate gli assetati, portate loro acqua, abitanti del paese di Tema! Presentatevi con pane ai fuggiaschi!
15 They flee from the sword, from the whetted sword; From the taut bow, from the fury of battle.	15 Poiché fuggono davanti alle spade, davanti alla spada sguainata, davanti all'arco teso, davanti al furore del combattimento.
16 For thus says the Lord to me: In another year, like those of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall come to an end.	16 Perché così mi parlò il Signore: "Ancora un anno, come gli anni del mercenario, e tutta la gloria di Kedàr sarà sparita.
17 Few of Kedar's stalwart archers shall remain, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.	17 Ciò che resterà del numero degli archi degli eroi di Kedàr sarà poca cosa, perché il Signore, Dio d'Israele, ha parlato".
