Isaiah 21

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Oracle on the wastelands by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping in waves through the Negeb, there comes from the desert, from the fearful land,	1 Oracle sur le désert de la mer. Comme des ouragans qui passent dans le Négeb, il vient du désert, d'unpays redoutable.
2 A cruel sight, revealed to me: the traitor betrays, the despoiler spoils. "Go up, Elam; besiege, O Media; I will put an end to all groaning!"	2 Une vision sinistre m'a été révélée: "Le traître trahit et le dévastateur dévaste. Monte, Elam, assiège,Mède!" J'ai fait cesser tous les gémissements.
3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish, pangs have seized me like those of a woman in labor; I am too bewildered to hear, too dismayed to look.	3 C'est pourquoi mes reins sont remplis d'angoisse, des convulsions m'ont saisi comme les convulsionsde la femme qui enfante; je suis trop bouleversé pour entendre, trop troublé pour voir.
4 My mind reels, shuddering assails me; My yearning for twilight has turned into dread.	4 Mon coeur s'égare, un frisson me terrifie; le crépuscule auquel j'aspirais devient ma terreur.
5 They set the table, spread out the rugs; they eat, they drink. Rise up, O princes, oil the shield!	5 On dresse la table, on met la nappe; on mange, on boit. Debout, chefs! Graissez le bouclier!
6 For thus says my Lord to me: Go, station a watchman, let him tell what he sees.	6 Car ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: "Va, place un guetteur! Qu'il annonce ce qu'il voit!
7 If he sees a chariot, a pair of horses, Someone riding an ass, someone riding a camel, Then let him pay heed, very close heed.	7 Il verra de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux par deux, des hommes montés sur des ânes, des hommesmontés sur des chameaux; qu'il observe avec attention, avec grande attention."
8 Then the watchman cried, "On the watchtower, O my Lord, I stand constantly by day; And I stay at my post through all the watches of the night.	8 Et le guetteur a crié: "Sur la tour de guet, Seigneur, je me tiens tout le long du jour, à mon poste degarde, je suis debout toute la nuit.
9 Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.'"	9 Et voici que vient la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux par deux." Il a repris la parole et dit: "Elle esttombée, Babylone, elle est tombée, et toutes les images de ses dieux, il les a brisées à terre."
10 O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I have announced to you.	10 Toi que j'ai foulé, grain de mon aire, ce que j'ai appris de Yahvé Sabaot, Dieu d'Israël, je tel'annonce.
11 Oracle on Edom: They call to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much longer the night? Watchman, how much longer the night?"	11 Oracle sur Duma. Vers moi on crie depuis Séïr: "Veilleur, où en est la nuit? Veilleur, où en est lanuit?"
12 The watchman replies, "Morning has come, and again night. If you will ask, ask; come back again."	12 Le veilleur répond: "Le matin vient, puis encore la nuit. Si vous voulez interroger, interrogez!Revenez! Venez!"
13 Oracle on Arabia: In the thicket in the nomad country spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.	13 Oracle dans la steppe. Dans les taillis, dans la steppe, vous passez la nuit, caravanes de Dédanites.
14 Meet the thirsty, bring them water; you who dwell in the land of Tema, greet the fugitives with bread.	14 A la rencontre de l'assoiffé, apportez de l'eau! Les habitants du pays de Téma sont allés avec du painau-devant du fugitif.
15 They flee from the sword, from the whetted sword; From the taut bow, from the fury of battle.	15 Car ils ont fui devant des épées, devant l'épée nue et devant l'arc tendu, devant l'acharnement ducombat.
16 For thus says the Lord to me: In another year, like those of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall come to an end.	16 Car ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: Encore une année comme des années de mercenaire, et c'en est faitde toute la gloire de Qédar.
17 Few of Kedar's stalwart archers shall remain, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.	17 Et du nombre des vaillants archers, des fils de Qédar, il ne restera presque rien, car Yahvé, Dieud'Israël, a parlé.
