1 Oracle on the wastelands by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping in waves through the Negeb, there comes from the desert, from the fearful land,	1 Oracle contre le désert proche de la mer: Cela vient du désert, d’une terre redoutable, comme un ouragan traversant le Négueb.
2 A cruel sight, revealed to me: the traitor betrays, the despoiler spoils. "Go up, Elam; besiege, O Media; I will put an end to all groaning!"	2 Je viens d’avoir une vision sinistre: Le traître trahit et le pilleur pille: Élamites, allez-y; Mèdes, à l’assaut! “J’ai fait taire les derniers gémissements.”
3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish, pangs have seized me like those of a woman in labor; I am too bewildered to hear, too dismayed to look.	3 C’est pourquoi je suis rempli d’inquiétude, je suis saisi de convulsions comme les convulsions de la femme qui enfante, je suis trop bouleversé pour entendre, trop affolé pour voir.
4 My mind reels, shuddering assails me; My yearning for twilight has turned into dread.	4 Mon esprit s’égare, des choses affreuses me remplissent de terreur; je souhaitais le crépuscule: il me remplit d’épouvante.
5 They set the table, spread out the rugs; they eat, they drink. Rise up, O princes, oil the shield!	5 On prépare la table, on étend les tapis, on mange et on boit. “Levez-vous chefs! Préparez vos boucliers!”
6 For thus says my Lord to me: Go, station a watchman, let him tell what he sees.	6 Oui, voici ce que m’a dit le Seigneur: “Va, mets en place un guetteur et qu’il te rapporte ce qu’il verra.
7 If he sees a chariot, a pair of horses, Someone riding an ass, someone riding a camel, Then let him pay heed, very close heed.	7 S’il voit un char, des cavaliers deux à deux, des hommes montés sur des ânes, des hommes montés sur des chameaux, qu’il fasse attention, très attention!”
8 Then the watchman cried, "On the watchtower, O my Lord, I stand constantly by day; And I stay at my post through all the watches of the night.	8 Et puis le guetteur a crié: “Seigneur, je me tiens tout le jour sur la tour de guet, toute la nuit je suis debout et je monte la garde.
9 Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.'"	9 Voici une troupe montée et des cavaliers deux à deux.” Le guetteur a repris: “Elle est tombée, Babylone, elle est tombée avec les statues de ses dieux! Il les a toutes brisées à terre.”
10 O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I have announced to you.	10 Ô toi mon peuple qu’il a foulé, comme le grain sur son aire, ce que j’ai appris de Yahvé Sabaot, du Dieu d’Israël, je te l’annonce.
11 Oracle on Edom: They call to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much longer the night? Watchman, how much longer the night?"	11 Oracle contre Douma: Depuis Séïr on me crie: “Guetteur, où en est la nuit? Guetteur où en la nuit?”
12 The watchman replies, "Morning has come, and again night. If you will ask, ask; come back again."	12 Le guetteur a répondu: “Le matin vient mais aussi la nuit. Si vous voulez interroger, interrogez: revenez une autre fois!”
13 Oracle on Arabia: In the thicket in the nomad country spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.	13 Oracle contre l’Arabie: Dans les steppes d’Arabie vous passez la nuit, caravanes des Dédanites.
14 Meet the thirsty, bring them water; you who dwell in the land of Tema, greet the fugitives with bread.	14 Allez au-devant des assoiffés, apportez-leur de l’eau, habitants du pays de Téma! Allez avec du pain au-devant des fugitifs!
15 They flee from the sword, from the whetted sword; From the taut bow, from the fury of battle.	15 Car ils ont pris la fuite devant les épées, devant l’épée dégainée et l’arc bandé, ils ont fui la violence du combat.
16 For thus says the Lord to me: In another year, like those of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall come to an end.	16 Voici ce que le Seigneur m’a dit: “Encore une année comme on compte celle d’un salarié, et toute la gloire de Kédar aura disparu;
17 Few of Kedar's stalwart archers shall remain, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.	17 il ne restera que peu de chose des vaillants archers de Kédar: Yahvé, le Dieu d’Israël a parlé.
