Sirach 47

1 After him came NATHAN who served in the presence of David.	1 Nátán próféta jött ezek után Dávid napjaiban.
2 Like the choice fat of the sacred offerings, so was DAVID in Israel.	2 Mert amint a hájat elválasztják a hústól, úgy Dávid is kiválóbb volt Izrael fiainál.
3 He made sport of lions as though they were kids, and of bears, like lambs of the flock.	3 Oroszlánokkal úgy játszott, mint bárányokkal, és medvékkel úgy bánt, mint a juhok kisbárányaival.
4 As a youth he slew the giant and wiped out the people's disgrace, When his hand let fly the slingstone that crushed the pride of Goliath.	4 Már ifjúkorában megölte az óriást, és elvette népéről a gyalázatot,
5 Since he called upon the Most High God, who gave strength to his right arm To defeat the skilled warrior and raise up the might of his people,	5 amikor felemelte kezét, s a parittya kövével leütötte a gőgös Góliátot,
6 Therefore the women sang his praises and ascribed to him tens of thousands. When he assumed the royal crown, he battled	6 mert segítségül hívta az Urat, a Mindenhatót, aki erőt adott jobbjának, hogy leterítse a bátor harcos férfit, és felmagasztalja népe szarvát.
7 and subdued the enemy on every side. He destroyed the hostile Philistines and shattered their power till our own day.	7 Dicsővé tette őt ekként tízezer között, és magasztossá tette az Úr áldásaival, azzal, hogy felajánlotta neki a dicső koronát,
8 With his every deed he offered thanks to God Most High, in words of praise. With his whole being he loved his Maker and daily had his praises sung;	8 és letiporta az ellenséget körös-körül, kiirtotta az ellenséges filiszteusokat – mind a mai napig –, és letörte szarvukat örökre.
9 He added beauty to the feasts and solemnized the seasons of each year With string music before the altar, providing sweet melody for the psalms	9 Minden tette után magasztalást zengett a Szentnek és Magasságbelinek dicsőítő szavakkal.
10 So that when the Holy Name was praised, before daybreak the sanctuary would resound.	10 Teljes szívéből dicsérte az Urat, szerette Istent, aki őt alkotta, és erőt adott neki az ellenséggel szemben.
11 The LORD forgave him his sins and exalted his strength forever; He conferred on him the rights of royalty and established his throne in Israel.	11 Énekeseket állított fel az oltár előtt, és kellemes dallamokat énekeltetett velük.
12 Because of his merits he had as his successor a wise son, who lived in security:	12 Fényt adott az ünnepségeknek, és szépekké tette az évenként visszatérő ünnepeket azzal, hogy magasztalták az Úr szent nevét, és már hajnalban dicsővé tették Isten szentélyét.
13 SOLOMON reigned during an era of peace, for God made tranquil all his borders. He built a house to the name of God, and established a lasting sanctuary.	13 Az Úr megtisztította őt bűneitől, és felmagasztalta szarvát örökre, neki adta a jogot a királyságra, és a dicső trónt Izraelben.
14 How wise you were when you were young, overflowing with instruction, like the Nile in flood!	14 Bölcs fiú következett utána, s őérte leverte az ellenség minden hatalmát.
15 Your understanding covered the whole earth, and, like a sea, filled it with knowledge.	15 Békés időben uralkodott Salamon, mert Isten alávetette minden ellenségét, hogy házat építsen az ő nevének, és szentélyt készítsen örök időkre. Milyen bölcs voltál ifjú korodban!
16 Your fame reached distant coasts, and their peoples came to hear you;	16 Mint a folyó, tele voltál bölcsességgel, elárasztottad a földet szellemeddel,
17 With song and story and riddle, and with your answers, you astounded the nations.	17 és megtöltötted rejtélyes mondásokkal. Hírneved eljutott messze szigetekig, és kedvelt lettél békeszereteted miatt.
18 You were called by that glorious name which was conferred upon Israel. Gold you gathered like so much iron, you heaped up silver as though it were lead;	18 Énekeid, mondásaid, talányaid és megfejtéseid miatt megcsodáltak az országok.
19 But you abandoned yourself to women and gave them dominion over your body.	19 Elneveztek az Úr, az Isten nevéről, akit Izrael Istenének hívnak.
20 You brought dishonor upon your reputation, shame upon your marriage, Wrath upon your descendants, and groaning upon your domain;	20 Úgy gyűjtötted az aranyat, mint a sárgarezet, és úgy halmoztad az ezüstöt, mint az ólmot,
21 Thus two governments came into being, when in Ephraim kingship was usurped.	21 de odaadtad ágyékodat asszonyoknak, és szabadjára éltél testeddel,
22 But God does not withdraw his mercy, nor permit even one of his promises to fail. He does not uproot the posterity of his chosen one, nor destroy the offspring of his friend. So he gave to Jacob a remnant, to David a root from his own family.	22 foltot ejtettél hírneveden, és meggyaláztad ivadékodat, haragot vontál gyermekeidre, és bánat követte balgaságodat,
23 Solomon finally slept with his fathers, and left behind him one of his sons, Expansive in folly, limited in sense, REHOBOAM, who by his policy made the people rebel; Until one arose who should not be remembered, the sinner who led Israel into sin, Who brought ruin to Ephraim	23 mert birodalmad kettészakadt, Efraimból pedig pártütő ország lett.
24 and caused them to be exiled from their land. Their sinfulness grew more and more,	24 De Isten mégsem hagy fel irgalmával, el nem emészti, tönkre nem teszi alkotásait, nem irtja ki gyökerestül kiválasztottja ivadékát, és nem pusztítja el annak nemzetségét, aki szerette az Urat.
25 and they lent themselves to every evil,	25 Maradékot hagy meg Jákobnak és Dávidnak gyökérhajtást belőle. Salamon pedig pihenőre tért atyáihoz, és maga után hagyta utódát: »a nép balgaságát«, Roboámot, aki híján volt az okosságnak, és elhidegítette magától a népet döntésével, aztán Jeroboámot, Nábát fiát, aki bűnbe vitte Izraelt, és bűnös útra térítette Efraimot. Bűneik nagyon gyarapodtak, a földjüktől nagyon messzire vitték őket, és mindenféle gonoszságra adták magukat, amíg csak el nem érte őket a megtorlás, és véget nem vetett minden bűnüknek.
