Sirach 45

1 From him was to spring the man who won the favor of all: Dear to God and men, MOSES, whose memory is held in benediction.	1 Moïse a été aimé de Dieu et des hommes; sa mémoire est en bénédiction.
2 God's honor devolved upon him, and the Lord strengthened him with fearful powers;	2 Le Seigneur lui a donné une gloire égale à celle des saints; Il l'a rendu grand et redoutable à ses ennemis, et Il a fait cesser les prodiges par ses paroles.
3 God wrought swift miracles at his words and sustained him in the king's presence. He gave him the commandments for his people, and revealed to him his glory.	3 Il l'a glorifié en présence des rois, Il lui a donné Ses ordres devant Son peuple, et lui a montré Sa gloire.
4 For his trustworthiness and meekness God selected him from all mankind;	4 Il l'a sanctifié dans sa foi et dans sa douceur, et Il l'a choisi entre tous les hommes.
5 He permitted him to hear his voice, and led him into the cloud, Where, face to face, he gave him the commandments, the law of life and understanding, That he might teach his precepts to Jacob, his judgments and decrees to Israel.	5 Il l'a écouté et a entendu sa voix, et Il l'a fait entrer dans la nuée.
6 He raised up also, like Moses in holiness, his brother AARON, of the tribe of Levi.	6 Il lui a donné ses préceptes face à face, et la loi de la vie et de la science, pour apprendre Son alliance à Jacob, et Ses ordonnances à Israël.
7 He made him perpetual in his office when he bestowed on him the priesthood of his people; He established him in honor and crowned him with lofty majesty;	7 Il a élevé Aaron son frère, semblable à lui, de la tribu de Lévi.
8 He clothed him with splendid apparel, and adorned him with the glorious vestments: Breeches and tunic and robe with pomegranates around the hem,	8 Il a fait avec lui une alliance éternelle, et Il lui a donné le sacerdoce de Son peuple, et Il l'a comblé de bonheur et de gloire;
9 And a rustle of bells round about, through whose pleasing sound at each step He would be heard within the sanctuary, and the children of his race would be remembered;	9 Il l'a ceint d'une ceinture d'honneur, l'a revêtu d'une tunique de gloire, et l'a couronné des insignes de la puissance.
10 The sacred vestments of gold, of violet, and of crimson, wrought with embroidery; The breastpiece for decision, the ephod and cincture	10 Il lui a mis la robe traînante, les caleçons et l'éphod, et Il l'a entouré d'un grand nombre de sonnettes d'or,
11 with scarlet yarn, the work of the weaver; Precious stones with seal engravings in golden settings, the work of the jeweler, To commemorate in incised letters each of the tribes of Israel;	11 afin qu'elles retentissent quand il marchait, et qu'elles fissent entendre leur son dans le temple pour avertir les fils de son peuple.
12 On his turban the diadem of gold, its plate wrought with the insignia of holiness, Majestic, glorious, renowned for splendor, a delight to the eyes, beauty supreme.	12 Il lui donna un vêtement saint, tissu d'or, d'hyacinthe et de pourpre par un homme sage, doué de jugement et de vérité;
13 Before him, no one was adorned with these, nor may they ever be worn by any Except his sons and them alone, generation after generation, for all time.	13 c'était une oeuvre d'artiste, de fils retors d'écarlate, avec des pierres précieuses sculptées, enchâssées dans l'or, gravées par le lapidaire, pour rappeler le souvenir de douze tribus d'Israël.
14 His cereal offering is wholly burnt with the established sacrifice twice each day;	14 La couronne d'or qui était sur sa mitre portait gravé le nom de la sainteté et la gloire souveraine; c'était un ornement majestueux, et une parure qui ravissait les yeux.
15 For Moses ordained him and anointed him with the holy oil, In a lasting covenant with him and with his family, as permanent as the heavens, That he should serve God in his priesthood and bless his people in his name.	15 Il n'y eut jamais avant lui rien de si beau depuis le commencement.
16 He chose him from all mankind to offer holocausts and choice offerings, To burn sacrifices of sweet odor for a memorial, and to atone for the people of Israel.	16 Nul étranger n'a été revêtu de ces ornements, mais ses fIls seuls et ses petits-fils dans la suite des âges.
17 He gave to him his laws, and authority to prescribe and to judge: To teach the precepts to his people, and the ritual to the descendants of Israel.	17 Ses sacrifices ont été chaque jour consumés par le feu.
18 Men of other families were inflamed against him, were jealous of him in the desert, The followers of Dathan and Abiram, and the band of Korah in their defiance.	18 Moïse consacra ses mains, et l'oignit de l'huile sainte.
19 But the LORD saw this and became angry, he destroyed them in his burning wrath. He brought down upon them a miracle, and consumed them with his flaming fire.	19 Il fut fait avec lui et avec sa race une alliance éternelle, qui durera autant que les jours du ciel, pour qu'il exerçât les fonctions du sacerdoce, célébrât les louanges du Seigneur, et glorifiât Son peuple en Son nom.
20 Then he increased the glory of Aaron and bestowed upon him his inheritance: The sacred offerings he allotted to him, with the showbread as his portion;	20 Il le choisit entre tous les vivants, pour offrir à Dieu les sacrifices, l'encens et la bonne odeur, afin qu'Il Se souvînt de Son peuple et lui fût favorable;
21 The oblations of the LORD are his food, a gift to him and his descendants.	21 Il lui donna du pouvoir concernant Ses préceptes et le testament de Ses lois, pour apprendre Ses ordonnances à Jacob, et pour donner à Israël la lumière de Sa loi.
22 But he holds no land among the people nor shares with them their heritage; For the LORD himself is his portion, his inheritance in the midst of Israel.	22 Des étrangers se dressèrent contre lui, et ceux qui suivaient Dathan et Abiron et la faction furieuse de Coré se soulevèrent autour de lui par envie dans le désert.
23 PHINEHAS too, the son of Eleazar, was the courageous third of his line When, zealous for the God of all, he met the crisis of his people And, at the prompting of his noble heart, atoned for the children of Israel.	23 Le Seigneur Dieu le vit, et cela ne Lui plut pas, et ils furent consumés par l'impétuosité de Sa colère.
24 Therefore on him again God conferred the right, in a covenant of friendship, to provide for the sanctuary, So that he and his descendants should possess the high priesthood forever.	24 Il fit des prodiges contre eux, et Il les consuma par les flammes du feu.
25 For even his covenant with David, the son of Jesse of the tribe of Judah, Was an individual heritage through one son alone; but the heritage of Aaron is for all his descendants.	25 Puis Il augmenta la gloire d'Aaron, lui assigna un héritage, et lui donna en partage les prémices des fruits de la terre.
26 And now bless the LORD who has crowned you with glory! May he grant you wisdom of heart to govern his people in justice, Lest their welfare should ever be forgotten, or your authority, throughout all time.	26 Il leur prépara dans les prémices une nourriture abondante; car ils devaient manger des sacrifices du Seigneur, qu'Il lui laissa ainsi qu'à sa race.
	27 Mais il n'a pas d'héritage dans la terre des nations, ni de part au milieu du peuple, car le Seigneur est Lui-même sa part et son héritage.
	28 Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, est le troisième en gloire; il imita Aaron dans la crainte du Seigneur,
	29 et il demeura ferme dans la chute honteuse du peuple; il apaisa Dieu en faveur d'Israël par la bonté et le zèle de son âme.
	30 C'est pourquoi le Seigneur fit avec lui une alliance de paix, et l'établit prince des saints de Son peuple, afin que la dignité sacerdotale appartînt toujours à lui et à sa race.
	31 Dieu a fait aussi une alliance semblable avec le roi David, fils de Jessé, de la tribu de Juda, et l'a rendu héritier du royaume, lui et sa race, pour mettre la sagesse dans nos coeurs et juger Son peuple avec justice, afin que leurs biens ne périssent point, et Il a rendu leur gloire éternelle au sein de leur postérité.
