1 From him was to spring the man who won the favor of all: Dear to God and men, MOSES, whose memory is held in benediction.	1 Puis Dieu fit paraître Moïse, un descendant de Jacob, un homme de bien, aimé de Dieu et des hommes, dont la mémoire sera bénie à jamais.
2 God's honor devolved upon him, and the Lord strengthened him with fearful powers;	2 Il le rendit glorieux tout autant que les anges, il le rendit puissant, terrible pour ses ennemis;
3 God wrought swift miracles at his words and sustained him in the king's presence. He gave him the commandments for his people, and revealed to him his glory.	3 mais à sa parole les prodiges cessaient. Le Seigneur le glorifia en présence des rois, il lui donna des commandements pour son peuple et lui fit entrevoir un reflet de sa gloire.
4 For his trustworthiness and meekness God selected him from all mankind;	4 Il fit entrer dans son mystère cet homme fidèle et doux qu’il avait choisi entre tous.
5 He permitted him to hear his voice, and led him into the cloud, Where, face to face, he gave him the commandments, the law of life and understanding, That he might teach his precepts to Jacob, his judgments and decrees to Israel.	5 Il lui fit entendre sa voix et l’introduisit dans la nuée obscure. Il lui parla face à face et lui donna les commandements, cette loi révélée, loi de vie, pour qu’il enseigne à Jacob l’Alliance, à Israël ses décrets.
6 He raised up also, like Moses in holiness, his brother AARON, of the tribe of Levi.	6 Dieu éleva et consacra tout comme lui son frère Aaron, de la tribu de Lévi.
7 He made him perpetual in his office when he bestowed on him the priesthood of his people; He established him in honor and crowned him with lofty majesty;	7 Il conclut avec lui une alliance perpétuelle, faisant de lui le prêtre de son peuple. Il le gratifia d’ornements splendides et le revêtit d’une robe d’apparat.
8 He clothed him with splendid apparel, and adorned him with the glorious vestments: Breeches and tunic and robe with pomegranates around the hem,	8 Il le couvrit de parures honorifiques et lui remit les insignes de sa puissance: pagne, tunique longue, éphod.
9 And a rustle of bells round about, through whose pleasing sound at each step He would be heard within the sanctuary, and the children of his race would be remembered;	9 Au bord de son manteau étaient fixées des grenades et d’innombrables clochettes d’or qui tintaient à chacun de ses pas; on les entendait résonner dans le temple et le peuple y restait attentif.
10 The sacred vestments of gold, of violet, and of crimson, wrought with embroidery; The breastpiece for decision, the ephod and cincture	10 Il le drapa d’un vêtement sacré, brodé d’or, de pourpre et d’écarlate; par-dessus se trouvait le pectoral du jugement, avec les dés de l’ourim et du toumim, lui aussi brodé de fils écarlates.
11 with scarlet yarn, the work of the weaver; Precious stones with seal engravings in golden settings, the work of the jeweler, To commemorate in incised letters each of the tribes of Israel;	11 Des pierres précieuses étincelaient, gravées comme des cachets, fixées par le joaillier sur une monture d’or. On y lisait les noms des tribus d’Israël: c’était pour les rappeler au souvenir du Seigneur.
12 On his turban the diadem of gold, its plate wrought with the insignia of holiness, Majestic, glorious, renowned for splendor, a delight to the eyes, beauty supreme.	12 Il lui mit une couronne d’or au-dessus du turban, avec en relief cette inscription: Consacré au Seigneur! C’était un ornement précieux, un ouvrage splendide qui attirait tous les regards.
13 Before him, no one was adorned with these, nor may they ever be worn by any Except his sons and them alone, generation after generation, for all time.	13 Avant lui on n’avait rien vu d’aussi beau; aucun profane n’a revêtu de tels ornements; ils sont réservés à ses fils et à ses descendants dans la suite des temps.
14 His cereal offering is wholly burnt with the established sacrifice twice each day;	14 Deux fois par jour, continuellement, le feu consume ses offrandes.
15 For Moses ordained him and anointed him with the holy oil, In a lasting covenant with him and with his family, as permanent as the heavens, That he should serve God in his priesthood and bless his people in his name.	15 Moïse lui-même l’a consacré: Aaron reçut de lui l’onction d’huile sainte; c’est ainsi qu’il a reçu ce privilège pour toujours, pour lui et pour ses descendants, tant que dureront les cieux: ils feront le service liturgique et seront prêtres, et ils donneront au peuple de Dieu la bénédiction en son Nom.
16 He chose him from all mankind to offer holocausts and choice offerings, To burn sacrifices of sweet odor for a memorial, and to atone for the people of Israel.	16 Il a été choisi parmi tous les vivants pour présenter l’offrande au Seigneur, avec l’encens d’agréable odeur, afin que le Seigneur se souvienne de son peuple et lui pardonne ses péchés.
17 He gave to him his laws, and authority to prescribe and to judge: To teach the precepts to his people, and the ritual to the descendants of Israel.	17 Le Seigneur lui a donné d’interpréter ses commandements et de se prononcer quand il s’agit d’enseigner à Jacob ses volontés, d’éclairer Israël à propos de sa loi.
18 Men of other families were inflamed against him, were jealous of him in the desert, The followers of Dathan and Abiram, and the band of Korah in their defiance.	18 Des étrangers ont conspiré contre Aaron, ils ont été jaloux de lui au désert; c’étaient les hommes de Datan et d’Abiram, c’était avec Coré le parti des violents et des furieux.
19 But the LORD saw this and became angry, he destroyed them in his burning wrath. He brought down upon them a miracle, and consumed them with his flaming fire.	19 Le Seigneur les vit et cela lui déplut; ils furent exterminés par l’ardeur de sa colère. Il les frappa de façon extraordinaire: des flammes de feu les dévorèrent.
20 Then he increased the glory of Aaron and bestowed upon him his inheritance: The sacred offerings he allotted to him, with the showbread as his portion;	20 Dieu a fait plus encore pour la gloire d’Aaron: il lui a donné en guise d’héritage les premiers fruits des récoltes, lui assurant ainsi du pain à satiété.
21 The oblations of the LORD are his food, a gift to him and his descendants.	21 Il lui a donné, à lui et à sa race, les offrandes faites au Seigneur: c’est là leur pain.
22 But he holds no land among the people nor shares with them their heritage; For the LORD himself is his portion, his inheritance in the midst of Israel.	22 Par contre ils n’ont pas d’héritage sur la terre de leur peuple, ils n’y ont pas leur part avec le peuple, car le Seigneur a dit: “Je serai moi-même ta part et ton héritage.”
23 PHINEHAS too, the son of Eleazar, was the courageous third of his line When, zealous for the God of all, he met the crisis of his people And, at the prompting of his noble heart, atoned for the children of Israel.	23 Quant à Pinhas, fils d’Éléazar, il est le troisième en gloire, car il a craint le Seigneur et s’est montré jaloux pour lui. Il resta ferme quand le peuple se révolta: ses dispositions ne faiblirent pas. Et c’est lui qui obtint le pardon pour Israël.
24 Therefore on him again God conferred the right, in a covenant of friendship, to provide for the sanctuary, So that he and his descendants should possess the high priesthood forever.	24 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur conclut avec lui une alliance de paix: il l’établit comme chef du sanctuaire et du peuple; il lui remit ainsi qu’à sa descendance la dignité de chef des prêtres, et cela, pour les siècles.
25 For even his covenant with David, the son of Jesse of the tribe of Judah, Was an individual heritage through one son alone; but the heritage of Aaron is for all his descendants.	25 Lorsque Dieu s’est engagé avec David, fils de Jessé, de la tribu de Juda, un seul de ses fils héritait de sa royauté; pour Aaron, par contre, son sacerdoce passe à tous ses descendants.
26 And now bless the LORD who has crowned you with glory! May he grant you wisdom of heart to govern his people in justice, Lest their welfare should ever be forgotten, or your authority, throughout all time.	26 (Ô race d’Aaron,) que le Seigneur mette la sagesse en vos cœurs pour gouverner son peuple avec droiture, afin que d’âge en âge, ni leur prospérité, ni leur gloire ne se perde!
