Sirach 45

1 From him was to spring the man who won the favor of all: Dear to God and men, MOSES, whose memory is held in benediction.	1 [Un uomo] caro a Dio e agli uomini, Mosè, la cui memoria è in benedizione.
2 God's honor devolved upon him, and the Lord strengthened him with fearful powers;	2 Lo fece pari ai santi nella gloria, e grande per il timore incusso a' nemici. Con la parola di lui fe'cessare i prodigi,
3 God wrought swift miracles at his words and sustained him in the king's presence. He gave him the commandments for his people, and revealed to him his glory.	3 e lo glorificò al cospetto dei re. E diede a Lui gli ordini per il suo popolo, e gli mostrò la propria gloria.
4 For his trustworthiness and meekness God selected him from all mankind;	4 Per la sua fede e mansuetudine lo consacrò, lo scelse tra tutti i viventi.
5 He permitted him to hear his voice, and led him into the cloud, Where, face to face, he gave him the commandments, the law of life and understanding, That he might teach his precepts to Jacob, his judgments and decrees to Israel.	5 E gli fece udire la sua voce, e lo fece entrare nella nuvola.
6 He raised up also, like Moses in holiness, his brother AARON, of the tribe of Levi.	6 E gli diede a faccia a faccia i comandamenti, e la legge della vita e del sapere, perchè Istruisse Giacobbe nel suo patto e nelle sue prescrizioni Israele.
7 He made him perpetual in his office when he bestowed on him the priesthood of his people; He established him in honor and crowned him with lofty majesty;	7 Esaltò [anche] Aronne suo fratello, e simile a lui, della tribù di Levi.
8 He clothed him with splendid apparel, and adorned him with the glorious vestments: Breeches and tunic and robe with pomegranates around the hem,	8 Stabilì con lui un patto eterno, e gli conferì il sacerdozio del popolo, e lo colmò di magnificenza.
9 And a rustle of bells round about, through whose pleasing sound at each step He would be heard within the sanctuary, and the children of his race would be remembered;	9 E lo cinse d'una fascia di gloria, e lo rivestì di magnifica veste; e l'ornò d'indumenti maestosi,
10 The sacred vestments of gold, of violet, and of crimson, wrought with embroidery; The breastpiece for decision, the ephod and cincture	10 gli diede la tunica, le brache e l'efod. E lo circondò di [melagrani] d'oro, e di molti sonagli in giro,
11 with scarlet yarn, the work of the weaver; Precious stones with seal engravings in golden settings, the work of the jeweler, To commemorate in incised letters each of the tribes of Israel;	11 che risonassero al suo incedere, e facessero udire il [loro] suono nel tempio, ad avvertimento de' figliuoli del suo popolo.
12 On his turban the diadem of gold, its plate wrought with the insignia of holiness, Majestic, glorious, renowned for splendor, a delight to the eyes, beauty supreme.	12 [Lo rivestì] di un paramento santo, tessuto d'oro, di giacinto e di porpora, del razionale del giudizio - oracolo di verità, —
13 Before him, no one was adorned with these, nor may they ever be worn by any Except his sons and them alone, generation after generation, for all time.	13 di [Alo] torto scarlatto, lavoro d'artista, con pietre preziose intagliate a mo'di sigillo, in legatura d'oro e incise per opera di lapidario, sì da essere un memoriale, secondo il numero della tribù d'Israele.
14 His cereal offering is wholly burnt with the established sacrifice twice each day;	14 Gli [pose] una corona d'oro sulla sua tiara, improntata col sigillo della consacrazione, insegna d'onore, lavoro squisito, delizia degli occhi e splendido ornamento.
15 For Moses ordained him and anointed him with the holy oil, In a lasting covenant with him and with his family, as permanent as the heavens, That he should serve God in his priesthood and bless his people in his name.	15 Prima di lui non ci fu nulla di simile da che mondo è mondo;
16 He chose him from all mankind to offer holocausts and choice offerings, To burn sacrifices of sweet odor for a memorial, and to atone for the people of Israel.	16 nessuno straniero mal se ne rivestì, ma solo i figliuoli di lui, e i suoi discendenti in perpetuo.
17 He gave to him his laws, and authority to prescribe and to judge: To teach the precepts to his people, and the ritual to the descendants of Israel.	17 I suoi sacrifizi furon consumati dal fuoco due volte ogni giorno [senza interruzione],
18 Men of other families were inflamed against him, were jealous of him in the desert, The followers of Dathan and Abiram, and the band of Korah in their defiance.	18 Mosè gli riempì le mani, e l'unse con olio santo.
19 But the LORD saw this and became angry, he destroyed them in his burning wrath. He brought down upon them a miracle, and consumed them with his flaming fire.	19 E fu [fermato] così un patto eterno con lui, e con la sua stirpe per la durata de' cieli, di [ministrare al Signore ed] esercitare il sacerdozio, e benedire il suo popolo nel nome di lui.
20 Then he increased the glory of Aaron and bestowed upon him his inheritance: The sacred offerings he allotted to him, with the showbread as his portion;	20 Lo scelse Dio tra tutt'i viventi, per offrire al Signore il sacrifizio, l'incenso e il profumo soave in memoria, per propiziarlo col suo popolo.
21 The oblations of the LORD are his food, a gift to him and his descendants.	21 E gli dette nei suoi comandamenti, autorità sulle disposizioni del [sacro] patto, per insegnare a Giacobbe i [suoi] precetti, e illuminare Israele nella sua legge.
22 But he holds no land among the people nor shares with them their heritage; For the LORD himself is his portion, his inheritance in the midst of Israel.	22 Contro di lui si levaron de' profani, e con insidia l'attorniarono nel deserto, gli uomini [cioè] del partito di Datan e Abiron e la fazione di Gore, con furore [ed ira].
23 PHINEHAS too, the son of Eleazar, was the courageous third of his line When, zealous for the God of all, he met the crisis of his people And, at the prompting of his noble heart, atoned for the children of Israel.	23 Vide [ciò] il Signore e non gli piacque, e furon sterminati in un impeto d'ira.
24 Therefore on him again God conferred the right, in a covenant of friendship, to provide for the sanctuary, So that he and his descendants should possess the high priesthood forever.	24 Operò prodigi contro di loro, e li divorò con la fiamma del [suo] fuoco.
25 For even his covenant with David, the son of Jesse of the tribe of Judah, Was an individual heritage through one son alone; but the heritage of Aaron is for all his descendants.	25 E accrebbe la gloria d'Aronne, e gli assegnò l'ereditò. Le primizie de' prodotti del suoio distribuì ad esso:
26 And now bless the LORD who has crowned you with glory! May he grant you wisdom of heart to govern his people in justice, Lest their welfare should ever be forgotten, or your authority, throughout all time.	26 il pane anzitutto fornì loro a sazietà, perchè mangeranno de' sacrifizi del Signore, ch'egli assegnò a lui e alla sua stirpe.
	27 Però nel territorio del popolo egli non ha eredità, e non gli è toccata parte tra la sua gente: perchè Egli stesso, [il Signore], è la sua parte e la sua eredità.
	28 Finees, figliuolo di Eleazaro, è il terzo nella gloria, per aver gareggiato con lui nel timor del Signore,
	29 e per esser rimasto saldo, In mezzo alla defezione del popolo, con la nobiltà e la risoluzione dell'animo suo, [sicché] propiziò Dio con Israele.
	30 Perciò [il Signore] fermò con lui un patto di pace, [che lo istituiva] capo delle cose sante e del suo popolo, affinchè a lui e alla sua progenie appartenesse la dignità del sacerdozio in eterno.
	31 E [come per] il patto con David, figliuolo di Jesse della tribù di Giuda, [l'eredità del re passa solo di figlio in figlio], [così] l'eredità [d'Aronne tocca] a lui c alla sua discendenza. Dia [il Signore] a voi, [o sacerdoti], la sapienza nel cuore, per giudicare il suo popolo con equità, perchè non cessi la sua prosperità, e la sua gloria in eterno!
