Sirach 42

1 But of these things be not ashamed, lest you sin through human respect:	1 Pero de lo que sigue no te avergüences, y no peques por tener acepción de personas:
2 Of the law of the Most High and his precepts, or of the sentence to be passed upon the sinful;	2 de la ley del Altísimo y de su alianza, del juicio que justifica a los impíos,
3 Of sharing the expenses of a business or a journey, or of dividing an inheritance or property;	3 de contar con compañero de viaje, de dar la herencia a compañeros,
4 Of accuracy of scales and balances, or of tested measures and weights;	4 de la exactitud de balanzas y pesas, de obtener grandes y pequeñas ganancias,
5 Of acquiring much or little, or of bargaining in dealing with a merchant; Of constant training of children, or of beating the sides of a disloyal servant;	5 de provecho en la venta a comerciantes, de la copiosa instrucción de los hijos, de ensangrentar las costillas de un mal siervo.
6 Of a seal to keep an erring wife at home, or of a lock placed where there are many hands;	6 Con mujer mala es bueno usar el sello, y, donde hay muchas manos, echa la llave.
7 Of numbering every deposit, or of recording all that is given or received;	7 Lo que entregues, hazlo con cuenta y medida, el haber y el debe, sea todo por escrito.
8 Of chastisement of the silly and the foolish, or of the aged and infirm answering for wanton conduct. Thus you will be truly cautious and recognized by all men as discreet.	8 No te avergüences de enseñar al tonto y al necio, y al viejo acabado juzgado como joven. Serás entonces de verdad educado, y estimado de todo viviente.
9 A daughter is a treasure that keeps her father wakeful, and worry over her drives away rest: Lest she pass her prime unmarried, or when she is married, lest she be disliked;	9 Una hija es para el padre un secreto desvelo, aleja el sueño la inquietud por ella. En su juventud, miedo a que se le pase la edad, si está casada, a que sea aborrecida.
10 While unmarried, lest she be seduced, or, as a wife, lest she prove unfaithful; Lest she conceive in her father's home, or be sterile in that of her husband.	10 Cuando virgen, no sea mancillada y en la casa paterna quede encinta. Cuando casada, a que sea infiel, cohabitando, a que sea estéril.
11 Keep a close watch on your daughter, lest she make you the sport of your enemies, A byword in the city, a reproach among the people, an object of derision in public gatherings. See that there is no lattice in her room, no place that overlooks the approaches to the house.	11 Sobre la hija desenvuelta refuerza la vigilancia, no sea que te haga la irrisión de tus enemigos, comidilla en la ciudad, corrillos en el pueblo, y ante el vulgo espeso te avergüence.
12 Let her not parade her charms before men, or spend her time with married women;	12 De ningún hombre te quedes mirando la belleza, y entre mujeres no te sientes.
13 For just as moths come from garments, so harm to women comes from women:	13 Porque de los vestidos sale la polilla, y de la mujer la malicia femenina.
14 Better a man's harshness than a woman's indulgence, and a frightened daughter than any disgrace.	14 Vale más maldad de hombre que bondad de mujer, la mujer cubre de vergüenza y oprobio.
15 Now will I recall God's works; what I have seen, I will describe. At God's word were his works brought into being; they do his will as he has ordained for them.	15 Voy a evocar las obras del Señor, lo que tengo visto contaré. Por las palabras del Señor fueron hechas sus obras, y la creación está sometida a su voluntad.
16 As the rising sun is clear to all, so the glory of the LORD fills all his works;	16 El sol mira a todo iluminándolo, de la gloria del Señor está llena su obra.
17 Yet even God's holy ones must fail in recounting the wonders of the LORD, Though God has given these, his hosts, the strength to stand firm before his glory.	17 No son capaces los Santos del Señor de contar todas sus maravillas, que firmemente estableció el Señor omnipotente, para que en su gloria el universo subsistiera.
18 He plumbs the depths and penetrates the heart; their innermost being he understands. The Most High possesses all knowledge, and sees from of old the things that are to come:	18 El sondea el abismo y el corazón humano, y sus secretos cálculos penetra. Pues el Altísimo todo saber conoce, y fija sus ojos en las señales de los tiempos.
19 He makes known the past and the future, and reveals the deepest secrets.	19 Anuncia lo pasado y lo futuro, y descubre las huellas de las cosas secretas.
20 No understanding does he lack; no single thing escapes him.	20 No se le escapa ningún pensamiento, ni una palabra se le oculta.
21 Perennial is his almighty wisdom; he is from all eternity one and the same,	21 Las grandezas de su sabiduría las puso en orden, porque él es antes de la eternidad y por la eternidad; nada le ha sido añadido ni quitado, y de ningún consejero necesita.
22 With nothing added, nothing taken away; no need of a counselor for him!	22 ¡Qué amables son todas sus obras!: como una centella hay que contemplarlas.
23 How beautiful are all his works! even to the spark and the fleeting vision!	23 Todo esto vive y permanece eternamente, para cualquier menester todo obedece.
24 The universe lives and abides forever; to meet each need, each creature is preserved.	24 Todas las cosas de dos en dos, una frente a otra, y nada ha hecho deficiente.
25 All of them differ, one from another, yet none of them has he made in vain, For each in turn, as it comes, is good; can one ever see enough of their splendor?	25 Cada cosa afirma la excelencia de la otra, ¿quién se hartará de contemplar su gloria?
