1 She preserved the first-formed father of the world when he alone had been created; And she raised him up from his fall,	1 Ella protesse il padre del mondo, plasmato per primo, che era stato creato solo, lo sollevò dalla sua caduta
2 and gave him power to rule all things.	2 e gli diede la forza per dominare tutte le cose.
3 But when the unjust man withdrew from her in his anger, he perished through his fratricidal wrath.	3 Ma un ingiusto, allontanatosi da lei nella sua collera, si rovinò con il suo furore fratricida.
4 When on his account the earth was flooded, Wisdom again saved it, piloting the just man on frailest wood.	4 La sapienza salvò di nuovo la terra sommersa per propria colpa, pilotando il giusto su un semplice legno.
5 She, when the nations were sunk in universal wickedness, knew the just man, kept him blameless before God, and preserved him resolute against pity for his child.	5 Quando i popoli furono confusi, unanimi nella loro malvagità, ella riconobbe il giusto, lo conservò davanti a Dio senza macchia e lo mantenne forte nonostante la sua tenerezza per il figlio.
6 She delivered the just man from among the wicked who were being destroyed, when he fled as fire descended upon Pentapolis--	6 Mentre perivano gli empi, ella liberò un giusto che fuggiva il fuoco caduto sulle cinque città.
7 Where as a testimony to its wickedness, there yet remain a smoking desert, Plants bearing fruit that never ripens, and the tomb of a disbelieving soul, a standing pillar of salt.	7 A testimonianza di quella malvagità esiste ancora una terra desolata, fumante, alberi che producono frutti immaturi e, a memoria di un’anima incredula, s’innalza una colonna di sale.
8 For those who forsook Wisdom first were bereft of knowledge of the right, And then they left mankind a memorial of their folly-- so that they could not even be hidden in their fall.	8 Essi infatti, incuranti della sapienza, non solo subirono il danno di non conoscere il bene, ma lasciarono anche ai viventi un ricordo di insipienza, perché nelle cose in cui sbagliarono non potessero rimanere nascosti.
9 But Wisdom delivered from tribulations those who served her.	9 La sapienza invece liberò dalle sofferenze coloro che la servivano.
10 She, when the just man fled from his brother's anger, guided him in direct ways, Showed him the kingdom of God and gave him knowledge of holy things; She prospered him in his labors and made abundant the fruit of his works,	10 Per diritti sentieri ella guidò il giusto in fuga dall’ira del fratello, gli mostrò il regno di Dio e gli diede la conoscenza delle cose sante; lo fece prosperare nelle fatiche e rese fecondo il suo lavoro.
11 Stood by him against the greed of his defrauders, and enriched him;	11 Lo assistette contro l’ingordigia dei suoi oppressori e lo rese ricco;
12 She preserved him from foes, and secured him against ambush, And she gave him the prize for his stern struggle that he might know that devotion to God is mightier than all else.	12 lo custodì dai nemici, lo protesse da chi lo insidiava, gli assegnò la vittoria in una lotta dura, perché sapesse che più potente di tutto è la pietà.
13 She did not abandon the just man when he was sold, but delivered him from sin.	13 Ella non abbandonò il giusto venduto, ma lo liberò dal peccato.
14 She went down with him into the dungeon, and did not desert him in his bonds, Until she brought him the scepter of royalty and authority over his oppressors, Showed those who had defamed him false, and gave him eternal glory.	14 Scese con lui nella prigione, non lo abbandonò mentre era in catene, finché gli procurò uno scettro regale e l’autorità su coloro che dominavano sopra di lui; mostrò che i suoi accusatori erano bugiardi e gli diede una gloria eterna.
15 The holy people and blameless race--it was she who delivered them from the nation that oppressed them.	15 Ella liberò il popolo santo e la stirpe senza macchia da una nazione di oppressori.
16 She entered the soul of the LORD'S servant, and withstood fearsome kings with signs and portents;	16 Entrò nell’anima di un servo del Signore e con prodigi e segni tenne testa a re terribili.
17 she gave the holy ones the recompense of their labors, Conducted them by a wondrous road, and became a shelter for them by day and a starry flame by night.	17 Diede ai santi la ricompensa delle loro pene, li guidò per una strada meravigliosa, divenne per loro riparo di giorno e luce di stelle nella notte.
18 She took them across the Red Sea and brought them through the deep waters--	18 Fece loro attraversare il Mar Rosso e li guidò attraverso acque abbondanti;
19 But their enemies she overwhelmed, and cast them up from the bottom of the depths.	19 sommerse invece i loro nemici e li rigettò dal fondo dell’abisso.
20 Therefore the just despoiled the wicked; and they sang, O LORD, your holy name	20 Per questo i giusti depredarono gli empi e celebrarono, o Signore, il tuo nome che è santo, e lodarono concordi la tua mano che combatteva per loro,
21 Because Wisdom opened the mouths of the dumb, and gave ready speech to infants.	21 perché la sapienza aveva aperto la bocca dei muti e aveva reso chiara la lingua dei bambini.
