For the leader. Of David. Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." Their deeds are loathsome and corrupt; not one does what is right. | 1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. |
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the human race, To see if even one is wise, if even one seeks God. | 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. |
All have gone astray; all alike are perverse. Not one does what is right, not even one. | 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. |
Will these evildoers never learn? They devour my people as they devour bread; they do not call upon the LORD. | 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. |
They have good reason, then, to fear; God is with the company of the just. | 5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. |
They would crush the hopes of the poor, but the poor have the LORD as their refuge. | 6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh, that from Zion might come the deliverance of Israel, That Jacob may rejoice, and Israel be glad when the LORD restores his people! | 7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. |
