1 When Israel came forth from Egypt, the house of Jacob from an alien people,	1 Quando Israele uscì dall'Egitto, la casa di Giacobbe di mezzo a un popolo straniero,
2 Judah became God's holy place, Israel, God's domain.	2 Giuda diventò il suo santuario, Israele il suo dominio.
3 The sea beheld and fled; the Jordan turned back.	3 Il mare vide e se ne fuggì, il Giordano si volse indietro;
4 The mountains skipped like rams; the hills, like lambs of the flock.	4 i monti saltellarono come arieti, le colline come agnelli d'un gregge.
5 Why was it, sea, that you fled? Jordan, that you turned back?	5 Che hai tu, mare, che fuggi, e tu, Giordano, che ti volgi indietro?
6 You mountains, that you skipped like rams? You hills, like lambs of the flock?	6 Perché voi, monti, saltellate come arieti, e voi, colline, come agnelli d'un gregge?
7 Tremble, earth, before the Lord, before the God of Jacob,	7 Trema, o terra, davanti al Signore, davanti al Dio di Giacobbe:
8 Who turned rock into pools of water, stone into flowing springs.	8 egli muta la rupe in stagno, una roccia in sorgente d'acqua.
