1 When Israel came forth from Egypt, the house of Jacob from an alien people,	1 ALLELUIA. In exitu Israel de Aegypto, domus Iacob de populo barbaro,
2 Judah became God's holy place, Israel, God's domain.	2 factus est Iuda sanctuarium eius, Israel potestas eius.
3 The sea beheld and fled; the Jordan turned back.	3 Mare vidit et fugit, Iordanis conversus est retrorsum;
4 The mountains skipped like rams; the hills, like lambs of the flock.	4 montes saltaverunt ut arietes, et colles sicut agni ovium. -
5 Why was it, sea, that you fled? Jordan, that you turned back?	5 Quid est tibi, mare, quod fugisti? Et tu, Iordanis, quia conversus es retrorsum?
6 You mountains, that you skipped like rams? You hills, like lambs of the flock?	6 Montes, quod saltastis sicut arietes, et colles, sicut agni ovium?
7 Tremble, earth, before the Lord, before the God of Jacob,	7 A facie Domini contremisce, terra, a facie Dei Iacob,
8 Who turned rock into pools of water, stone into flowing springs.	8 qui convertit petram in stagna aquarum et silicem in fontes aquarum.
