1 The Jews in Jerusalem and in the land of Judea send greetings to their brethren, the Jews in Egypt, and wish them true peace!	1 « Ai Giudei loro fratelli che sono nell'Egitto, i fratelli Giudei, che sono in Gerusalemme e nel paese della Giudea, salute ed ottima pace.
2 May God bless you and remember his covenant with his faithful servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	2 Dio vi faccia del bene, ricordandosi dell'alleanza fatta con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe, suoi servi fedeli;
3 May he give to all of you a heart to worship him and to do his will readily and generously.	3 e doni a voi tutti un cuore per adorarlo, e per fare la sua volontà di gran cuore e con animo volenteroso.

16 Then they opened a hidden trapdoor in the ceiling, hurled stones at the leader and his companions and struck them down. 18 We shall be celebrating the purification of the temple on the twenty-fifth day of the month Chislev, so we thought it right to inform you, that you too may celebrate the feast of Booths and of the fire that appeared when Nehemiah, the rebuilder of the temple and the altar, offered sacrifices.	18 Or noi, essendo per celebrare, ai venticinque del mese di Casieri, la purificazione del tempio, abbiamo creduto necessario di farvelo sapere, affinchè anche voi celebriate il giorno della sceno pegia, e il giorno del fuoco, che fu dato quando Nehemia, ricostruito il tempio e l'altare, offerse i sacrifizi.
19 When our fathers were being exiled to Persia, devout priests of the time took some of the fire from the altar and hid it secretly in the hollow of a dry cistern, making sure that the place would be unknown to anyone.	19 Or quando i nostri padri furono menati nella Persia, i sacerdoti allora addetti al culto di Dio, preso il fuoco dell'altare, lo nascosero segretamente in una valle, dove era un pozzo profondo e secco, e lo misero cosi bene in sicuro, che il luogo restò ignoto a tutti.
20 Many years later, when it so pleased God, Nehemiah, commissioned by the king of Persia, sent the descendants of the priests who had hidden the fire to look for it.	20 Passati molti anni, quando piacque a Dio di far mandare dal re di Persia Nehemia, questi mandò i nipoti di quei sacerdoti che l'avevan nascosto a cercare il fuoco, ed essi, come ci raccontarono, non trovarono il fuoco, ma densa acqua.
21 When they informed us that they could not find any fire, but only muddy water, he ordered them to scoop some out and bring it. After the material for the sacrifices had been prepared, Nehemiah ordered the priests to sprinkle with the water the wood and what lay on it.	21 Allora il sacerdote Nehemia ordinò di attingerla e di portarla a lui, e che i sacrifizi posti sull'altare e le legna messevi sopra fossero asperse con quell'acqua.

35 To those on whom the king wished to bestow favors he distributed the large revenues he received there.	35 E, accertato che fu della cosa, donò molti beni ai sacerdoti, e di sua propria mano diede loro molti e vari regali.
36 Nehemiah and his companions called the liquid nephthar, meaning purification, but most people named it naphtha.	36 Nehemia diede a quel luogo il nome di Nettar, che vuol dire purificazione, ma dai più vien chiamato Nefi ».
