1 When the day arrived on which the order decreed by the king was to be carried out, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, on which the enemies of the Jews had expected to become masters of them, the situation was reversed: the Jews became masters of their enemies.	1 Las órdenes del rey fueron ejecutadas en el mes doce, que es el mes de Adar, el día trece del mes, el mismo día en que los enemigos de los judíos esperaban aplastarlos; pero la situación cambió y fueron los judíos los que aplastaron a sus enemigos.
2 The Jews mustered in their cities throughout the provinces of King Ahasuerus to attack those who sought to do them harm, and no one could withstand them, but all peoples were seized with a fear of them.	2 En todas las provincias del rey Asuero se reunieron los judíos en sus ciudades para poner la mano sobre cuantos habían intentado hacerles mal, sin que nadie les opusiera resistencia, porque el temor se había apoderado de todos los pueblos.
3 Moreover, all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, governors, and royal procurators supported the Jews from fear of Mordecai;	3 Todos los jefes de las provincias, los sátrapas, los inspectores y los funcionarios del rey apoyaron a los judíos, porque todos temían a Mardoqueo,
4 for Mordecai was powerful in the royal palace, and the report was spreading through all the provinces that he was continually growing in power.	4 ya que Mardoqueo era influyente en el palacio real y su fama se había extendido por todas las provincias; pues, en efecto, de día en día se acrecentaba su poder.
5 The Jews struck down all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them; they did to their enemies as they pleased.	5 Los judíos pasaron a filo de espada a todos sus enemigos; fue un degüello, un exterminio: hicieron lo que quisieron con sus adversarios.
6 In the stronghold of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.	6 En la ciudadela de Susa los judíos mataron y exterminaron a quinientos hombres
7 They also killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,	7 y además a Parsandata, Dalfón, Aspata,
8 Porathai, Adalia, Aridatha, 9 Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,	8 Porata, Adalías, Andata,
	9 Parmasta, Arisay, Ariday y Yezata,
10 the ten sons of Haman, son of Hammedatha, the foe of the Jews. However, they did not engage in plundering.	10 los diez hijos de Amán, hijo de Hamdatá, enemigo de los judíos. Los mataron, pero no saquearon sus bienes.
11 On the same day, when the number of those killed in the stronghold of Susa was reported to the king,	11 Aquel mismo día llevaron al rey la cifra de los que habían sido muertos en las ciudadela de Susa.
12 he said to Queen Esther: "In the stronghold of Susa the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men, as well as the ten sons of Haman. What must they have done in the other royal provinces! You shall again be granted whatever you ask, and whatever you request shall be honored."	12 Dijo el rey a la reina Ester: «En la ciudadela de Susa han matado y exterminado los judíos a quinientos hombres y a los diez hijos de Amán. ¿Qué habrán hecho en las restantes provincias del rey? ¿Qué deseas pedir ahora? Pues te será concedido. Se seguirá haciendo lo que tú desees».
13 So Esther said, "If it pleases your majesty, let the Jews in Susa be permitted again tomorrow to act according to today's decree, and let the ten sons of Haman be hanged on gibbets."	13 Respondió Ester: «Si al rey le parece bien, que se conceda a los judíos de Susa que puedan actuar mañana según el edicto de hoy; cuanto a los diez hijos de Amán, que sean colgados de la horca».
14 The king then gave an order to this effect, and the decree was published in Susa. So the ten sons of Haman were hanged,	14 Ordenó el rey que se hiciera así; se promulgó la ley en Susa y los diez hijos de Amán fueron colgados.
15 and the Jews in Susa mustered again on the fourteenth of the month of Adar and killed three hundred men in Susa. However, they did not engage in plundering.	15 Los judíos de Susa se reunieron también el día catorce del mes de Adar y mataron en Susa a trescientos hombres, pero no saquearon sus bienes.
16 The other Jews, who dwelt in the royal provinces, also mustered and defended themselves, and obtained rest from their enemies. They killed seventy-five thousand of their foes, without engaging in plunder,	16 Los judíos de las restantes provincias del rey se reunieron para defender, contra sus enemigos, sus vidas y su seguridad; mataron de entre sus adversarios a 75.000, pero no saquearon sus bienes.
17 on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar. On the fourteenth of the month they rested, and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing.	17 Ocurrió esto el día trece del mes de Adar y el día catorce descansaron, convirtiéndolo en un día de alegres festines.
18 (The Jews in Susa, however, mustered on the thirteenth and fourteenth of the month. But on the fifteenth they rested, and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing.)	18 Cuanto a los judíos de Susa, que se habían reunido los días trece y catorce, descansaron el día quince, convirtiéndolo en un día de alegres festines.
19 That is why the rural Jews, who dwell in villages, celebrate the fourteenth of the month of Adar as a day of rejoicing and feasting, a holiday on which they send gifts of food to one another.	19 Por eso, los judíos diseminados en las ciudades no fortificadas celebran el día catorce del mes de Adar con alegres festines, como día de fiesta, y se envían recíprocos regalos, (*Ester 9:19-a) mientras que los que habitan en las ciudades celebran su día de gozo y envían regalos a sus vecinos el día quince del mes de Adar.
20 Mordecai recorded these events and sent letters to all the Jews, both near and far, in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.	20 Mardoqueo consignó por escrito todas estas cosas y envió cartas a los judíos de todas las provincias del rey Asuero tanto lejanos como próximos,
21 He ordered them to celebrate every year both the fourteenth and the fifteenth of the month of Adar	21 ordenándoles que celebraran todos los años el día catorce y el día quince del mes de Adar,
22 as the days on which the Jews obtained rest from their enemies and as the month which was turned for them from sorrow into joy, from mourning into festivity. They were to observe these days with feasting and gladness, sending food to one another and gifts to the poor.	22 porque en tales días obtuvieron los judíos paz contra sus enemigos, y en este mes la aflicción se trocó en alegría y el llanto en festividad; que los convirtieran en días de alegres festines y mutuos regalos, y de donaciones a los pobres.
23 The Jews took upon themselves for the future this observance which they instituted at the written direction of Mordecai.	23 Los judíos adoptaron esta costumbre, que ya habían comenzado a observar y acerca de la cual les escribió Mardoqueo:
24 Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the foe of all the Jews, had planned to destroy them and had cast the pur, or lot, for the time of their defeat and destruction.	24 «Amán, hijo de Hamdatá, de Agag, enemigo de todos los judíos, había proyectado exterminar a los judíos y echó el “Pur”, es decir, la suerte, para su ruina y exterminio.
25 Yet, when Esther entered the royal presence, the king ordered in writing that the wicked plan Haman had devised against the Jews should instead be turned against Haman and that he and his sons should be hanged on gibbets.	25 Pero cuando se presentó al rey, para hacer ahorcar a Mardoqueo, su proyecto se volvió contra él, y los males que había meditado contra los judíos cayeron sobre su cabeza, siendo ahorcados él y sus hijos.
26 And so these days have been named Purim after the word pur. Thus, because of all that was contained in this letter, and because of what they had witnessed and experienced in this affair,	26 Por esta razón, estos días son llamados “Purim”, de la palabra “Pur”». Asimismo, por todo la relatado en esta carta por lo que ellos mismos vieron y por lo que se les contó,
27 the Jews established and took upon themselves, their descendants, and all who should join them, the inviolable obligation of celebrating these two days every year in the manner prescribed by this letter, and at the time appointed.	27 hicieron los judíos de estos días una institución irrevocable para sí, para sus descendientes y para todos los que se pasaron a ellos, conforme a este escrito y esta fecha, de año en año.
28 These days were to be commemorated and kept in every generation, by every clan, in every province, and in every city. These days of Purim were never to fall into disuse among the Jews, nor into oblivion among their descendants.	28 Así, estos días de los Purim, commemorados y celebrados de generación en generación, en todas las familias, en todas las provincias y en todas las ciudades, no desparecerán de entre los judíos, y su recuerdo no se perderá entre sus descendientes.
29 Queen Esther, daughter of Abihail and of Mordecai the Jew, wrote to confirm with full authority this second letter about Purim,	29 La reina Ester, hija de Abijayil, y el judío Mardoqueo, escribieron, con toda su autoridad, para dar fuerza de ley a esta segunda carta de los Purim,
30 when Mordecai sent documents concerning peace and security to all the Jews in the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of Ahasuerus' kingdom.	30 y se enviaron cartas a todos los judíos de las 127 provincias del rey Asuero, con palabras de paz y fidelidad,
31 Thus were established, for their appointed time, these days of Purim which Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther had designated for the Jews, just as they had previously enjoined upon themselves and upon their race the duty of fasting and supplication.	31 para ratificar en su fecha estos días de los Purim, tal como había sido ordenado por el judío Mardoqueo y la reina Ester, y tal como lo habían establecido para sí mismos y para sus descendientes, añadiendo lo tocante a los ayunos y lamentaciones.
32 The command of Esther confirmed these prescriptions for Purim and was recorded in the book.	32 La orden de Ester fijó la institución de estos Purim, siendo consignada en el libro.
