Tobit 8

1 When they had finished eating and drinking, the girl's parents wanted to retire. They brought the young man out of the dining room and led him into the bedroom.	1 Quand on eut fini de boire et de manger, on parla d'aller se coucher, et l'on conduisit le jeune hommedepuis la salle du repas jusque dans la chambre.
2 At this point Tobiah, mindful of Raphael's instructions, took the fish's liver and heart from the bag which he had with him, and placed them on the embers for the incense.	2 Tobie se souvint des conseils de Raphaël, il prit son sac, il en tira le coeur et le foie du poisson, et ilen mit sur les braises de l'encens.
3 The demon, repelled by the odor of the fish, fled into Upper Egypt; Raphael pursued him there and bound him hand and foot. Then Raphael returned immediately.	3 L'odeur du poisson incommoda le démon, qui s'enfuit par les airs jusqu'en Egypte. Raphaël l'ypoursuivit, l'entrava et le garrotta sur-le-champ.
4 When the girl's parents left the bedroom and closed the door behind them, Tobiah arose from bed and said to his wife, "My love, get up. Let us pray and beg our Lord to have mercy on us and to grant us deliverance."	4 Cependant les parents étaient sortis en refermant la porte. Tobie se leva du lit, et dit à Sarra: "Debout,ma soeur! Il faut prier tous deux, et recourir à notre Seigneur, pour obtenir sa grâce et sa protection."
5 She got up, and they started to pray and beg that deliverance might be theirs. He began with these words: "Blessed are you, O God of our fathers; praised be your name forever and ever. Let the heavens and all your creation praise you forever.	5 Elle se leva et ils se mirent à prier pour obtenir d'être protégés, et il commença ainsi: Tu es béni, Dieude nos pères, et ton Nom est béni dans tous les siècles des siècles! Que te bénissent les cieux, et toutes tescréatures dans tous les siècles!
6 You made Adam and you gave him his wife Eve to be his help and support; and from these two the human race descended. You said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; let us make him a partner like himself.'	6 C'est toi qui as créé Adam, c'est toi qui as créé Eve sa femme, pour être son secours et son appui, et larace humaine est née de ces deux-là. C'est toi qui as dit: Il ne faut pas que l'homme reste seul, faisons-lui uneaide semblable à lui.
7 Now, Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine not because of lust, but for a noble purpose. Call down your mercy on me and on her, and allow us to live together to a happy old age."	7 Et maintenant, ce n'est pas le plaisir que je cherche en prenant ma soeur, mais je le fais d'un coeursincère. Daigne avoir pitié d'elle et de moi et nous mener ensemble à la vieillesse!
8 They said together, "Amen, amen,"	8 Et ils dirent de concert: "Amen, amen!"
9 and went to bed for the night. But Raguel got up and summoned his servants. With him they went out to dig a grave,	9 Et ils se couchèrent pour la nuit. Or Ragouël se leva, il appela les serviteurs, et ils vinrent l'aider àcreuser une tombe.
10 for he said, "I must do this, because if Tobiah should die, we would be subjected to ridicule and insult."	10 Il avait pensé: "Pourvu qu'il ne meure pas! Nous serions couverts de ridicule et de honte."
11 When they had finished digging the grave, Raguel went back into the house and called his wife,	11 Une fois la fosse achevée, Ragouël revint à la maison, il appela sa femme
12 saying, "Send one of the maids in to see whether Tobiah is alive or dead, so that if necessary we may bury him without anyone's knowing about it."	12 et lui dit: "Si tu envoyais une servante dans la chambre voir si Tobie est en vie? Parce que, s'il estmort, on l'enterrerait sans que personne en sache rien."
13 She sent the maid, who lit a lamp, opened the bedroom door, went in, and found them sound asleep together.	13 On avertit la servante, on alluma la lampe, on ouvrit la porte, et la servante entra. Elle les trouvadormant tous deux d'un profond sommeil;
14 The maid went out and told the girl's parents that Tobiah was alive, and that there was nothing wrong.	14 elle ressortit, et leur dit tout bas: "Il n'est pas mort, tout va bien."
15 Then Raguel praised the God of heaven in these words: "Blessed are you, O God, with every holy and pure blessing! Let all your chosen ones praise you; let them bless you forever!	15 Ragouël bénit le Dieu du Ciel par ces paroles: Tu es béni, mon Dieu, par toute bénédiction pure!Qu'on te bénisse dans tous les siècles!
16 Blessed are you, who have made me glad; what I feared did not happen. Rather you have dealt with us according to your great mercy.	16 Tu es béni de m'avoir réjoui, ce que je redoutais n'est pas arrivé, mais tu nous as traités avec tonimmense bienveillance.
17 Blessed are you, for you were merciful toward two only children. Grant them, Master, mercy and deliverance, and bring their lives to fulfillment with happiness and mercy."	17 Tu es béni d'avoir eu pitié de ce fils unique et de cette fille unique. Donne-leur, Maître, ta grâce et taprotection, fais-les poursuivre leur vie, dans la joie et dans la grâce!
18 Then he told his servants to fill in the grave before dawn.	18 Et il fit combler la tombe par les serviteurs, avant le petit jour.
19 He asked his wife to bake many loaves of bread; he himself went out to the herd and picked out two steers and four rams which he ordered to be slaughtered. So the servants began to prepare the feast.	19 Il fit faire par sa femme une fournée de pains, il alla au troupeau, prit deux boeufs et quatre moutons,il les recommanda à la cuisine, et l'on commença les préparatifs.
20 He summoned Tobiah and made an oath in his presence, saying: "For fourteen days you shall not stir from here, but shall remain here eating and drinking with me; and you shall bring joy to my daughter's sorrowing spirit.	20 Il fit venir Tobie et lui déclara: "Pendant quatorze jours, il n'est pas question que tu bouges d'ici. Turesteras là où tu es, à manger et à boire, chez moi. Tu rendras la joie à ma fille après tous ses chagrins.
21 Take, to begin with, half of whatever I own when you go back in good health to your father; the other half will be yours when I and my wife die. Be of good cheer, my son! I am your father, and Edna is your mother; and we belong to you and to your beloved now and forever. So be happy, son!"	21 Après, emporte d'ici la moitié de tout ce que j'ai, et retourne sans encombre auprès de ton père.Quand nous serons morts, ma femme et moi, vous aurez l'autre moitié. Aie confiance, mon garçon! Je suis tonpère, et Edna est ta mère. Nous sommes tes parents, comme ceux de ta soeur, désormais. Aie confiance, monenfant!"
