1 When they had finished eating and drinking, the girl's parents wanted to retire. They brought the young man out of the dining room and led him into the bedroom.	1 Quand le repas fut terminé, on parla d’aller se coucher. On conduisit le jeune homme depuis la salle du repas jusque dans la chambre.
2 At this point Tobiah, mindful of Raphael's instructions, took the fish's liver and heart from the bag which he had with him, and placed them on the embers for the incense.	2 Tobie se rappela les conseils de Raphaël; il prit son sac, il en sortit le cœur et le foie du poisson et les posa sur les braises de l’encens.
3 The demon, repelled by the odor of the fish, fled into Upper Egypt; Raphael pursued him there and bound him hand and foot. Then Raphael returned immediately.	3 Intoxiqué, le démon prit la fuite à travers les airs jusqu’aux hauts plateaux d’Égypte. Raphaël le poursuivit, il le captura là-bas et le ligota aussitôt.
4 When the girl's parents left the bedroom and closed the door behind them, Tobiah arose from bed and said to his wife, "My love, get up. Let us pray and beg our Lord to have mercy on us and to grant us deliverance."	4 Cependant, les parents étaient sortis et avaient refermé la porte. Tobie se leva du lit et dit à Sarra: “Lève-toi, ma sœur. Prions tous les deux, supplions notre Seigneur pour obtenir sa grâce et sa protection.”
5 She got up, and they started to pray and beg that deliverance might be theirs. He began with these words: "Blessed are you, O God of our fathers; praised be your name forever and ever. Let the heavens and all your creation praise you forever.	5 Elle se leva et ensemble ils se mirent à prier pour leur salut: “Tu es béni, Dieu de nos pères et ton Nom est béni pour les siècles des siècles. Que les cieux et toutes tes créatures te bénissent de siècle en siècle!
6 You made Adam and you gave him his wife Eve to be his help and support; and from these two the human race descended. You said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; let us make him a partner like himself.'	6 Tu as créé Adam, tu as créé Ève, sa femme, pour être son secours et son soutien, et c’est d’eux que toute la race des hommes est née. Tu as dit: il ne faut pas que l’homme soit seul, faisons-lui une aide semblable à lui.
7 Now, Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine not because of lust, but for a noble purpose. Call down your mercy on me and on her, and allow us to live together to a happy old age."	7 Maintenant ce n’est pas le plaisir que je cherche en épousant cette sœur, je le fais d’un cœur sincère. Aie pitié d’elle et de moi et conduis-nous ensemble jusqu’à la vieillesse.”
8 They said together, "Amen, amen,"	8 Ils terminèrent en disant ensemble: “Amen! Amen!”
9 and went to bed for the night. But Raguel got up and summoned his servants. With him they went out to dig a grave,	9 Puis ils se couchèrent pour la nuit. Ragouël s’était levé. Il avait appelé ses serviteurs, et ensemble ils étaient partis creuser une tombe.
10 for he said, "I must do this, because if Tobiah should die, we would be subjected to ridicule and insult."	10 Il se disait en effet: “Si par hasard il était mort, il ne faudrait pas que nous soyons couverts de ridicule et de honte.”
11 When they had finished digging the grave, Raguel went back into the house and called his wife,	11 Une fois la fosse creusée, Ragouël rentra à la maison et appela sa femme.
12 saying, "Send one of the maids in to see whether Tobiah is alive or dead, so that if necessary we may bury him without anyone's knowing about it."	12 Il lui dit: “Envoie une servante dans la chambre pour voir si Tobie est toujours en vie. S’il est mort, nous l’enterrerons sans que personne ne le sache.”
13 She sent the maid, who lit a lamp, opened the bedroom door, went in, and found them sound asleep together.	13 On envoya donc la servante, on alluma une lampe et on ouvrit la porte. Elle entra et les trouva tous deux couchés et endormis.
14 The maid went out and told the girl's parents that Tobiah was alive, and that there was nothing wrong.	14 Elle ressortit et leur fit signe qu’il était en vie, qu’aucun malheur n’était arrivé.
15 Then Raguel praised the God of heaven in these words: "Blessed are you, O God, with every holy and pure blessing! Let all your chosen ones praise you; let them bless you forever!	15 Alors Ragouël bénit le Dieu du ciel: “Tu mérites, ô Dieu, toute sainte bénédiction! Que tous les siècles te bénissent!
16 Blessed are you, who have made me glad; what I feared did not happen. Rather you have dealt with us according to your great mercy.	16 Béni sois-tu, car tu m’as rempli de joie. Ce que je redoutais n’est pas arrivé, tu as agi avec nous selon ton immense bonté.
17 Blessed are you, for you were merciful toward two only children. Grant them, Master, mercy and deliverance, and bring their lives to fulfillment with happiness and mercy."	17 Béni sois-tu, toi qui as eu pitié de ces deux enfants uniques. Maître, donne-leur ta grâce et ton salut. Que leur vie toute entière connaisse le bonheur et ta grâce!”
18 Then he told his servants to fill in the grave before dawn.	18 Avant que le jour se lève, Ragouël avait fait reboucher la tombe par ses serviteurs.
19 He asked his wife to bake many loaves of bread; he himself went out to the herd and picked out two steers and four rams which he ordered to be slaughtered. So the servants began to prepare the feast.	19 Il dit à sa femme de faire une fournée de pain, il alla au troupeau, prit deux bœufs et quatre moutons et demanda à la cuisine pour qu’on les tue et qu’on les prépare.
20 He summoned Tobiah and made an oath in his presence, saying: "For fourteen days you shall not stir from here, but shall remain here eating and drinking with me; and you shall bring joy to my daughter's sorrowing spirit.	20 Il fit ensuite appeler Tobie et lui dit: “Ne bouge pas d’ici avant deux semaines, tu mangeras et tu boiras chez moi. Ma fille a eu assez d’épreuves, tu peux bien lui donner un peu de bonheur.
21 Take, to begin with, half of whatever I own when you go back in good health to your father; the other half will be yours when I and my wife die. Be of good cheer, my son! I am your father, and Edna is your mother; and we belong to you and to your beloved now and forever. So be happy, son!"	21 Ensuite tu emporteras d’ici la moitié de tous mes biens et tu retourneras sans encombres chez ton père. Quand nous serons morts, ma femme et moi, l’autre moitié sera pour vous. Confiance, mon fils! Maintenant je suis ton père, et Edna est ta mère. Désormais nous sommes à tes côtés comme nous sommes avec ta sœur. Confiance, mon fils!”
