Tobit 12

1 When the wedding celebaration came to an end, Tobit called his son Tobiah and said to him, "Son, see to it that you give what is due to the man who made the journey with you; give him a bonus too."	1 Alors Tobie appela son fils auprès de lui, et lui dit: Que pouvons-nous donner à ce saint homme qui est venu avec vous?
2 Tobiah said: "Father, how much shall I pay him? It would not hurt me at all to give him half of all the wealth he brought back with me.	2 Tobie répondant à son père, lui dit: Mon père, quelle récompence lui donnerons-nous? ou que peut-il y avoir de proportionné à ses bienfaits?
3 He led me back safe and sound; he cured my wife; he brought the money back with me; and he cured you. How much of a bonus should I give him?"	3 Il m'a mené et ramené sain et sauf; il a lui-même reçu l'argent de Gabélus; il m'a fait avoir une épouse; il a éloigné d'elle le démon; il a rempli de joie ses parents; il m'a délivré du poison qui allait me dévorer; il vous a fait voir à vous-même la lumière du ciel; et c'est par lui que nous avons été remplis de tous les biens. Que lui donnerons-nous qui égale ce qu'il a fait pour nous?
4 Tobit answered, "It is only fair, son, that he should receive half of all that he brought back."	4 Mais je vous prie, mon père, de lui demander s'il daignerait accepter la moitié de tout le bien que nous avons apporté.
5 So Tobiah called Raphael and said, "Take as your wages half of all that you have brought back, and go in peace."	5 Alors Tobie le père et son fils l'appelèrent, et l'ayant pris à part, ils le conjurèrent de vouloir bien recevoir la moitié de tout ce qu'ils avaient apporté.
6 Raphael called the two men aside privately and said to them: "Thank God! Give him the praise and the glory. Before all the living, acknowledge the many good things he has done for you, by blessing and extolling his name in song. Before all men, honor and proclaim God's deeds, and do not be slack in praising him.	6 Alors l'Ange leur dit en secret: Bénissez le Dieu du ciel, et glorifiez-Le devant tous les hommes, parce qu'il a fait éclater sur vous Sa miséricorde.
7 A king's secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are to be declared and made known. Praise them with due honor. Do good, and evil will not find its way to you.	7 Car il est bon de cacher le secret du roi, mais il est honorable de révéler et de publier les oeuvres de Dieu.
8 Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than abundance with wickedness. It is better to give alms than to store up gold;	8 La prière accompagnée du jeûne est bonne, et l'aumône vaut mieux que d'amasser des monceaux d'or.
9 for almsgiving saves one from death and expiates every sin. Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life;	9 Car l'aumône délivre de la mort, et c'est elle qui efface les péchés, et qui fait trouver la miséricorde et la vie éternelle.
10 but those habitually guilty of sin are their own worst enemies.	10 Mais ceux qui commettent le péché et l'iniquité sont les ennemis de leur âme.
11 "I will now tell you the whole truth; I will conceal nothing at all from you. I have already said to you, 'A king's secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are to be made known with due honor.'	11 Je vais donc vous découvrir la vérité, et je ne vous cacherai point une chose qui est secrète.
12 I can now tell you that when you, Tobit, and Sarah prayed, it was I who presented and read the record of your prayer before the Glory of the Lord; and I did the same thing when you used to bury the dead.	12 Lorsque vous priiez avec larmes, et que vous ensevelissiez les morts, que vous quittiez votre repas, et que vous cachiez les morts dans votre maison durant le jour pour les ensevelir pendant la nuit, j'ai présenté votre prière au Seigneur.
13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave your dinner in order to go and bury the dead,	13 Et parce que vous étiez agréable à Dieu, il a été nécessaire que la tentation vous éprouvât.
14 I was sent to put you to the test. At the same time, however, God commissioned me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.	14 Et maintenant le Seigneur m'a envoyé pour vous guérir, et pour délivrer du démon Sara, la femme de votre fils.
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord."	15 Car je suis l'Ange Raphaël, l'un des sept qui nous tenons en la présence du Seigneur.
16 Stricken with fear, the two men fell to the ground.	16 Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu ces paroles, ils furent troublés, et, saisis de frayeur, ils tombèrent le visage contre terre.
17 But Raphael said to them: "No need to fear; you are safe. Thank God now and forever.	17 Et l'Ange leur dit: La paix soit avec vous, ne craignez point.
18 As for me, when I came to you it was not out of any favor on my part, but because it was God's will. So continue to thank him every day; praise him with song.	18 Car, lorsque j'étais avec vous, j'y étais par la volonté de Dieu; bénissez-Le et chantez-Le.
19 Even though you watched me eat and drink. I did not really do so; what you were seeing was a vision.	19 Il vous a paru que je mangeais et que je buvais avec vous; mais je me nourris d'un mets invisible, et d'un breuvage qui ne peut être vu des hommes.
20 So now get up from the ground and praise God. Behold, I am about to ascend to him who sent me; write down all these things that have happened to you."	20 Il est donc temps que je retourne vers Celui qui m'a envoyé; pour vous, bénissez Dieu et publiez toutes Ses merveilles.
21 When Raphael ascended they rose to their feet and could no longer see him.	21 Et lorsqu'il eut ainsi parlé, il disparut de devant eux, et ils ne purent plus le voir.
22 They kept thanking God and singing his praises; and they continued to acknowledge these marvelous deeds which he had done when the angel of God appeared to them.	22 Alors, s'étant prosternés le visage contre terre pendant trois heures, ils bénirent Dieu, et s'étant levés, ils racontèrent toutes Ses merveilles.
