NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Thus all Israel was inscribed in its family records which are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel.Now Judah had been carried in captivity to Babylon because of its rebellion.1 Universus ergo Israel dinume ratus est, et summa eorum scrip ta est in libro regum Israel et Iudae. Translatique sunt in Babylonem propter delictum suum.
The first to settle again in their cities and dwell there were certain lay Israelites, the priests, the Levites, and the temple slaves.2 Qui autem habitaverunt primi in possessionibus et in urbibus suis: Israel et sacerdotes et Levitae et Nathinaei.
In Jerusalem lived Judahites and Benjaminites; also Ephraimites and Manassehites.3 Commorati sunt in Ierusalem de filiis Iudae et de filiis Beniamin, de filiis quoque Ephraim et Manasse.
Among the Judahites was Uthai, son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, one of the descendants of Perez, son of Judah.4 Uthai filius Ammiud filii Amri filii Imri filii Bani: de filiis Phares filii Iudae;
Among the Shelanites were Asaiah, the first-born, and his sons.5 et de Selanitis: Asaia primogenitus et filii eius;

Ibneiah, son of Jeroham; Elah, son of Uzzi, son of Michri; Meshullam, son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.8 et Iobania filius Ieroham et Ela filius Ozi filii Mochori et Mosollam filius Saphatiae filii Rahuel filii Iebaniae
Their kindred of various families were nine hundred and fifty-six. All those named were heads of their ancestral houses.9 et fratres eorum secundum genealogias suas nongenti quinquaginta sex; omnes hi principes familiarum secundum familias suas.
Among the priests were Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jachin;10 De sacerdotibus autem: Iedaia, Ioiarib et Iachin,
Azariah, son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;11 Azarias quoque filius Helciae filii Mosollam filii Sadoc filii Meraioth filii Achitob principes domus Dei.
Adaiah, son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; Maasai, son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.12 Porro Adaias filius Ieroham filii Phassur filii Melchiae et Maasai filius Adiel filii Iezra filii Mosollam filii Mosollamoth filii Emmer,
Their brethren, heads of their ancestral houses, were one thousand seven hundred and sixty, valiant for the work of the service of the house of God.13 fratres quoque eorum principes per familias suas mille septingenti sexaginta, fortissimi robore ad faciendum opus ministerii in domo Dei.
Among the Levites were Shemaiah, son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, one of the descendants of Merari;14 De Levitis autem: Semeia filius Hassub filii Ezricam filii Hasabia de filiis Merari;

The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brethren; Shallum was the chief.17 Ianitores autem: Sellum et Accub et Telmon et Ahiman; et frater eorum Sellum princeps
Previously they had stood guard at the king's gate on the east side; now they became gatekeepers for the encampments of the Levites.18 et usque ad hoc tempus est in porta regis ad orientem. Hi erant ianitores castris filiorum Levi.
Shallum, son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, a descendant of Korah, and his brethren of the same ancestral house of the Korahites had as their assigned task the guarding of the threshold of the tent, just as their fathers had guarded the entrance to the encampment of the LORD.19 Sellum vero filius Core filii Abiasaph filii Core cum fratribus suis de domo patris sui: hi Coritae erant super opera ministerii custodes liminum tabernaculi; patres autem eorum super castra Domini custodiebant introitum,
Phinehas, son of Eleazar, had been their chief in times past--the LORD be with him!20 et Phinees filius Eleazari princeps erat super eos olim — Dominus sit cum eo! —
Zechariah, son of Meshelemiah, guarded the gate of the meeting tent.21 Zacharias filius Mosollamia ianitor portae tabernaculi conventus.
In all, those who were chosen for gatekeepers at the threshold were two hundred and twelve. They were inscribed in the family records of their villages. David and Samuel the seer had established them in their position of trust.22 Omnes hi electi in ostiarios liminum ducenti duodecim, et descripti in villis propriis, quos constituerunt David et Samuel videns in munus perpetuum,
Thus they and their sons kept guard over the gates of the house of the LORD, the house which was then a tent.23 tam ipsos quam filios eorum in ostiis domus Domini, domus tabernaculi, in custodias.
The gatekeepers were stationed at the four sides, to the east, the west, the north, and the south.24 Per quattuor ventos erant ostiarii, id est ad orientem et ad occidentem, ad aquilonem et ad austrum.
Their kinsmen who lived in their own villages took turns in assisting them for seven-day periods,25 Fratres autem eorum in viculis suis morabantur et veniebant per septem dies de tempore usque ad tempus, ut essent cum illis.
while the four chief gatekeepers were on constant duty. These were the Levites who also had charge of the chambers and treasures of the house of God.26 Nam munus habebant perpetuum hi quattuor principes ianitorum. Hi scilicet Levitae erant super exedras et thesauros domus Domini;
At night they lodged about the house of God, for it was in their charge and they had the duty of opening it each morning.27 per gyrum quoque templi Domini pernoctabant in custodiis suis, ut et ipsi mane aperirent fores.
Some of them had charge of the liturgical equipment, tallying it as it was brought in and taken out.28 De horum genere erant et super vasa ministerii, ad numerum enim et inferebantur vasa et efferebantur;
Others were appointed to take care of the utensils and all the sacred vessels, as well as the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.29 de ipsis et, qui credita habebant utensilia et omnia utensilia sancta, praeerant similae et vino et oleo et turi et aromatibus.
It was the sons of priests, however, who mixed the spiced ointments.30 Filii quidam autem sacerdotum unguenta ex aromatibus conficiebant;
Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the first-born of Shallum the Koreite, was entrusted with preparing the cakes.31 et Matthathias Levites, primogenitus Sellum Coritae, munere perpetuo praefectus erat eorum, quae in sartagine frigebantur.
Benaiah the Kohathite, one of their brethren, was in charge of setting out the showbread each sabbath.32 Porro de filiis Caath fratribus eorum super panes erant propositionis, ut semper novos per singula sabbata praepararent.
These were the chanters and the gatekeepers, family heads over the Levites. They stayed in the chambers when free of duty, for day and night they had to be ready for service.33 Hi sunt cantores, principes per familias Levitarum, qui in exedris vacantes morabantur, ita ut die et nocte iugiter suo ministerio deservirent.
These were the levitical family heads over their kindred, chiefs who dwelt in Jerusalem.34 Hi sunt capita Levitarum per familias suas secundum genealogias suas principes; hi habitaverunt in Ierusalem.

The son of Jonathan was Meribbaal, and Meribbaal became the father of Micah.40 Filius autem Ionathan Meribbaal, et Meribbaal genuit Micha;
The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.41 porro filii Micha: Phithon et Melech et Tharaa et Ahaz.
Ahaz became the father of Jehoaddah, and Jehoaddah became the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri became the father of Moza.42 Ahaz autem genuit Iara, et Iara genuit Almath et Azmaveth et Zamri; Zamri autem genuit Mosa.
Moza became the father of Binea, whose son was Rephaiah, whose son was Eleasah, whose son was Azel.43 Mosa vero genuit Banaa, cuius filius Raphaia genuit Elasa, de quo ortus est Asel.
Azel had six sons, whose names were Azrikam, his first-born, Ishmael, Sheariah, Azariah, Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel.44 Porro Asel sex filios habuit his nominibus: Ezricam primogenitus eius, Ismael, Saria, Azarias, Obdia, Hanan; hi filii Asel.
