1 Elisha once said to the woman whose son he had restored to life: "Get ready! Leave with your family and settle wherever you can, because the LORD has decreed a seven-year famine which is coming upon the land."	1 Eliseo disse alla donna a cui aveva risuscitato il figlio: "Lèvati, vattene con la tua famiglia e soggiorna fuori dove ti sarà possibile, perché il Signore ha chiamato la fame che durerà nel paese per sette anni".
2 The woman got ready and did as the man of God said, setting out with her family and settling in the land of the Philistines for seven years.	2 La donna si levò e fece secondo la parola dell'uomo di Dio: partì lei e la sua famiglia e soggiornò nel paese dei Filistei per sette anni.
3 At the end of the seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines and went out to the king to claim her house and her field.	3 Trascorsi che furono i sette anni, la donna ritornò dal paese dei Filistei e si recò dal re a reclamare la sua casa e il suo campo.
4 The king was talking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. "Tell me," he said, "all the great things that Elisha has done."	4 Il re stava parlando con Giezi, il servo dell'uomo di Dio, e gli diceva: "Raccontami, ti prego, tutte le grandi cose che Eliseo ha fatto".
5 Just as he was relating to the king how his master had restored a dead person to life, the very woman whose son Elisha had restored to life came to the king to claim her house and field. "My lord king," Gehazi said, "this is the woman, and this is that son of hers whom Elisha restored to life."	5 Mentre egli raccontava al re il modo come aveva risuscitato il morto, ecco che si presentò proprio la donna a cui il profeta aveva risuscitato il figlio per reclamare dal re la sua casa e il suo campo. Giezi allora disse: "O re, mio signore! Questa è la donna e questo è il suo figlio che Eliseo ha risuscitato!".
6 The king questioned the woman, and she told him her story. With that the king placed an official at her disposal, saying, "Restore all her property to her, with all that the field produced from the day she left the land until now."	6 Il re interrogò la donna ed essa gli narrò il fatto. Allora il re l'affidò a un eunuco con quest'ordine: "Si restituisca tutto quello che le appartiene e tutte le rendite del campo dal momento in cui essa ha lasciato il paese fino ad ora".
7 Elisha came to Damascus at a time when Ben-hadad, king of Aram, lay sick. When he was told that the man of God had come there,	7 Eliseo si recò a Damasco. Ben-Adàd, re di Aram, era ammalato e gli fu annunciato: "L'uomo di Dio è venuto fin qui".
8 the king said to Hazael, "Take a gift with you and go call on the man of God. Have him consult the LORD as to whether I shall recover from this sickness."	8 Il re disse a Cazaèl: "Prenditi un regalo, va' incontro all'uomo di Dio e, per mezzo suo, consulta il Signore così: "Guarirò da questa malattia?".
9 Hazael went to visit him, carrying a present, and with forty camel loads of the best goods of Damascus. On his arrival, he stood before the prophet and said, "Your son Ben-hadad, king of Aram, has sent me to ask you whether he will recover from his sickness."	9 Cazaèl gli andò incontro, dopo essersi preso come regalo ogni cosa più preziosa di Damasco: un carico di quaranta cammelli! Giunto da lui, gli si presentò e gli disse: "Tuo figlio Ben-Adàd, re di Aram, mi ha mandato da te per domandarti: "Guarirò da questa malattia?".
10 "Go and tell him," Elisha answered, "that he will surely recover. However, the LORD has showed me that he will in fact die."	10 Eliseo rispose: "Va' e digli: "Certamente guarirai!", però il Signore mi ha fatto vedere che certamente egli morirà".
11 Then he stared him down until Hazael became ill at ease. The man of God wept,	11 Poi immobilizzò il suo volto e irrigidì il suo sguardo per lungo tempo; alla fine l'uomo di Dio scoppiò in pianto.
12 and Hazael asked, "Why are you weeping, my lord?" Elisha replied, "Because I know the evil that you will inflict upon the Israelites. You will burn their fortresses, you will slay their youth with the sword, you will dash their little children to pieces, you will rip open their pregnant women."	12 Allora Cazaèl domandò: "Perché piangi, mio signore?". Quegli rispose: "E' perché so tutto il male che farai ai figli d'Israele: brucerai le loro fortezze, ucciderai di spada i loro primogeniti, sfracellerai i loro lattanti, sventrerai le loro donne incinte".
13 Hazael exclaimed, "How can a dog like me, your servant, do anything so important?" "The LORD has showed you to me as king over Aram," replied Elisha.	13 Cazaèl esclamò: "Che è mai il tuo servo? E' forse un cane perché possa fare una cosa così mostruosa?". Eliseo gli replicò: "Il Signore mi ha fatto vedere che tu sarai re di Aram".
14 Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. "What did Elisha tell you?" asked Ben-hadad. "He told me that you would surely recover," replied Hazael.	14 Partito che fu da Eliseo, si recò dal suo signore che gli domandò: "Che cosa ti ha detto Eliseo?". Quegli rispose: "Mi ha detto che tu certamente guarirai".
15 The next day, however, Hazael took a cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it over the king's face, so that he died. And Hazael reigned in his stead.	15 Il giorno dopo egli prese una coperta, la immerse nell'acqua, gliela pose sul viso e quegli morì. Così Cazaèl regnò al posto suo.
16 In the fifth year of Joram, son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, became king.	16 Il quinto anno di Ioram, figlio di Acab, re d'Israele, divenne re Ioram, figlio di Giosafat, re di Giuda.
17 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	17 Al suo avvento al trono egli aveva trentadue anni e regnò otto anni a Gerusalemme.
18 He conducted himself like the kings of Israel of the line of Ahab, since the sister of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the LORD'S sight.	18 Imitò la condotta dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab -- una figlia di Acab era infatti sua moglie --, e fece il male agli occhi del Signore.
19 Even so, the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah, because of his servant David. For he had promised David that he would leave him a lamp in the LORD'S presence for all time.	19 Tuttavia il Signore non volle distruggere Giuda a causa di Davide, suo servo, perché aveva promesso di dare a lui e ai suoi discendenti una lampada perenne.
20 During Jehoram's reign, Edom revolted against the sovereignty of Judah and chose a king of its own.	20 Ai suoi tempi, Edom si liberò dal dominio di Giuda e si diede un re.
21 Thereupon Jehoram with all his chariots crossed over to Zair. He arose by night and broke through the Edomites when they had surrounded him and the commanders of his chariots. Then his army fled homeward.	21 Allora Ioram, con tutti i suoi carri, passò a Zeira. Levatosi di notte, con i comandanti dei carri batté gli Edomiti che lo avevano accerchiato; il popolo fuggì alle sue tende.
22 To this day Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah. Libnah also revolted at that time.	22 Così Edom si liberò dal dominio di Giuda fino ad oggi. Anche Libna si ribellò in quel tempo.
23 The rest of the acts of Jehoram, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.	23 Le altre gesta di Ioram e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda?
24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. His son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.	24 Ioram si addormentò con i suoi antenati e fu seppellito con essi nella città di Davide. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Acazia.
25 Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, became king in the twelfth year of Joram, son of Ahab, king of Israel.	25 L'anno dodicesimo di Ioram, figlio di Acab, re d'Israele, incominciò a regnare Acazia, figlio di Ioram, re di Giuda.
26 He was twenty-two years old when he began his reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah; she was daughter of Omri, king of Israel.	26 Al suo avvento al trono Acazia aveva ventidue anni e regnò un anno a Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Atalia, figlia di Omri, re d'Israele.
27 He conducted himself like the house of Ahab, doing evil in the LORD'S sight as they did, since he was related to them by marriage.	27 Egli seguì la condotta della casa di Acab e fece il male agli occhi del Signore, come la casa di Acab, poiché si era imparentato con la casa di Acab.
28 He joined Joram, son of Ahab, in battle against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth-gilead, where the Arameans wounded Joram.	28 Assieme a Ioram, figlio di Acab, andò a combattere Cazaèl, re di Aram, a Ramot di Gàlaad, ma gli Aramei ferirono Ioram.
29 King Joram returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramah in his battle against Hazael, king of Aram. Then Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to Jezreel to visit him there in his illness.	29 Allora il re Ioram ritornò a Izreèl per farsi curare le ferite che gli Aramei gli avevano inferte a Ramot, mentre combatteva Cazaèl, re di Aram. Acazia, figlio di Ioram, re di Giuda, discese a Izreèl a visitare Ioram, figlio di Acab, che era sofferente.
