1 David had gone a little beyond the top when Ziba, the servant of Meribbaal, met him with saddled asses laden with two hundred loaves of bread, an ephah of cakes of pressed raisins, an ephah of summer fruits, and a skin of wine.	1 Tendo Davi avançado um pouco além do cume, viu que lhe vinha ao encontro Siba, servo de Mifiboset, com dois jumentos selados e carregados de duzentos pães, cem cachos de uvas secas, cem frutos maduros e um odre de vinho.
2 The king said to Ziba, "What do you plan to do with these?" Ziba replied: "The asses are for the king's household to ride on. The bread and summer fruits are for your servants to eat, and the wine for those to drink who are weary in the desert."	2 O rei disse-lhe: Que tens aí? Os jumentos, respondeu Siba, devem servir à família do rei, para que os montem; os pães e frutos servirão de comida para os teus servos, o vinho será para aqueles que se fatigarem no deserto.
3 Then the king said, "And where is your lord's son?" Ziba answered the king, "He is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, 'Now the Israelites will restore to me my father's kingdom.'"	3 O rei perguntou: Mas onde está o filho do teu senhor? Ficou em Jerusalém, respondeu Siba, alegando que agora a casa de Israel lhe devolveria o reino de seu pai.
4 The king therefore said to Ziba, "So! Everything Meribbaal had is yours." Then Ziba said: "I pay you homage, my lord the king. May I find favor with you!"	4 O rei disse a Siba: Tudo o que possuía Mifiboset te pertence doravante. Eu me inclino diante de ti, respondeu ele; conserva-me a tua graça, ó rei, meu senhor.
5 As David was approaching Bahurim, a man named Shimei, the son of Gera of the same clan as Saul's family, was coming out of the place, cursing as he came.	5 Quando o rei chegou a Baurim, apareceu um homem da família da casa de Saul, chamado Semei, filho de Gera, o qual ia proferindo maldições enquanto andava.
6 He threw stones at David and at all the king's officers, even though all the soldiers, including the royal guard, were on David's right and on his left.	6 Atirava pedras contra o rei Davi e contra todos os seus servos, embora todo o exército e todos os guerreiros valentes se encontrassem à direita e à esquerda do rei.
7 Shimei was saying as he cursed: "Away, away, you murderous and wicked man!	7 E o amaldiçoava, dizendo: Vai-te, vai-te embora, homem sanguinário e celerado.
8 The LORD has requited you for all the bloodshed in the family of Saul, in whose stead you became king, and the LORD has given over the kingdom to your son Absalom. And now you suffer ruin because you are a murderer."	8 O Senhor faz cair sobre ti todo o sangue da casa de Saul, cujo trono usurpaste; o Senhor entregou o reino ao teu filho Absalão. Eis-te oprimido de males, homem sanguinário que és!
9 Abishai, son of Zeruiah, said to the king: "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over, please, and lop off his head."	9 Então Abisai, filho de Sarvia, disse ao rei: Por que insulta esse cão morto ao rei, meu senhor? Deixa-me passar, vou cortar-lhe a cabeça.
10 But the king replied: "What business is it of mine or of yours, sons of Zeruiah, that he curses? Suppose the LORD has told him to curse David; who then will dare to say, 'Why are you doing this?'"	10 Que nos importa, filho de Sarvia?, respondeu Davi. Deixa-o amaldiçoar. Se o Senhor lhe ordenou que me amaldiçoasse, quem poderia dizer-lhe: por que fazes isso?
11 Then the king said to Abishai and to all his servants: "If my own son, who came forth from my loins, is seeking my life, how much more might this Benjaminite do so! Let him alone and let him curse, for the LORD has told him to.	11 E Davi disse a Abisai e à sua gente: Vede: se meu filho, fruto de minhas entranhas, conspira contra a minha vida, quanto mais agora esse benjaminita? Deixai-o amaldiçoar, se o Senhor lho ordenou.
12 Perhaps the LORD will look upon my affliction and make it up to me with benefits for the curses he is uttering this day."	12 Talvez o Senhor considere a minha aflição e me dê agora bens por esses ultrajes.
13 David and his men continued on the road, while Shimei kept abreast of them on the hillside, all the while cursing and throwing stones and dirt as he went.	13 Davi e seus homens retomaram o seu caminho, mas Semei ia ao longo da montanha, ao lado dele, vomitando injúrias, atirando-lhe pedras e espalhando poeira pelo ar.
14 The king and all the soldiers with him arrived at the Jordan tired out, and stopped there for a rest.	14 O rei e toda a sua tropa chegaram extenuados a... onde descansaram.
15 In the meantime Absalom, accompanied by Ahithophel, entered Jerusalem with all the Israelites.	15 Absalão entrou em Jerusalém com toda a sua tropa de israelitas, acompanhado de Aquitofel.
16 When David's friend Hushai the Archite came to Absalom, he said to him: "Long live the king! Long live the king!"	16 Quando Cusai, o araquita amigo de Davi, se apresentou a Absalão, disse-lhe: Viva o rei! Viva o rei!
17 But Absalom asked Hushai: "Is this your devotion to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?"	17 Absalão disse-lhe: É essa a tua afeição por teu amigo? Por que não partiste com ele?
18 Hushai replied to Absalom: "On the contrary, I am his whom the LORD and all this people and all Israel have chosen, and with him I will stay.	18 Não, respondeu-lhe Cusai; eu sou daquele que escolheu o Senhor com todo esse povo: com esse é que eu ficarei.
19 Furthermore, as I was in attendance upon your father, so will I be before you. Whom should I serve, if not his son?"	19 Aliás, a quem serviria eu senão ao seu filho? Como servi a teu pai, assim te servirei a ti também.
20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Offer your counsel on what we should do."	20 Absalão disse a Aquitofel: Deliberai entre vós sobre o que devemos fazer.
21 Ahithophel replied to Absalom: "Have relations with your father's concubines, whom he left behind to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears how odious you have made yourself to your father, all your partisans will take courage."	21 Aquitofel respondeu-lhe: Aproxima-te das concubinas de teu pai, que ficaram aqui para guardar o palácio. Assim todo o Israel saberá que te tornaste odioso ao teu pai, e os teus partidários se animarão com maior coragem.
22 So a tent was pitched on the roof for Absalom, and he visited his father's concubines in view of all Israel.	22 Armaram, pois, para Absalão uma tenda no terraço, e ali, à vista de todo o Israel, ele vinha abusar das concubinas de seu pai.
23 Now the counsel given by Ahithophel at that time was as though one had sought divine revelation. Such was all his counsel both to David and to Absalom.	23 Ora, os conselhos que dava Aquitofel naquele tempo eram considerados como palavras de Deus; assim se consideravam todos os seus conselhos, tanto para Davi como para Absalão.
