1 The span of Sarah's life was one hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 Sara vivió 127 años.
2 She died in Kiriatharba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham performed the customary mourning rites for her.	2 Murió Sara en Quiryat Arbá - que es Hebrón - en el país de Canaán, y Abraham hizo duelo por Sara y la lloró.
3 Then he left the side of his dead one and addressed the Hittites:	3 Luego se levantó Abraham de delante de la muerta, y habló a los hijos de Het en estos términos:

5 The Hittites answered Abraham: "Please, sir,	5 Respondieron los hijos de Het a Abraham diciéndole:
6 listen to us! You are an elect of God among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our burial sites. None of us would deny you his burial ground for the burial of your dead."	6 «A ver si nos entendemos, señor; tú eres un príncipe divino entre nosotros. En el mejor de nuestros sepulcros sepulta a tu muerta. Ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro, para que entierres a tu muerta.»
7 Abraham, however, began to bow low before the local citizens, the Hittites,	7 Levantóse Abraham, e hizo una reverencia a los paisanos, a los hijos de Het,
8 while he appealed to them: "If you will allow me room for burial of my dead, listen to me! Intercede for me with Ephron, son of Zohar, asking him	8 y les habló en estos términos: «Si estáis de acuerdo con que yo retire y sepulte a mi muerta, escuchadme e interceded por mí ante Efrón, hijo de Sójar,
9 to sell me the cave of Machpelah that he owns; it is at the edge of his field. Let him sell it to me in your presence, at its full price, for a burial place."	9 para que me dé la cueva de la Makpelá que es suya y que está al borde de su finca. Que me la dé por lo que valga en propiedad sepulcral entre vosotros.»
10 Now Ephron was present with the Hittites. So Ephron the Hittite replied to Abraham in the hearing of the Hittites who sat on his town council:	10 Efrón estaba sentado entre los hijos de Het. Respondió, pues, Efrón el hitita a Abraham, a oídas de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad diciendo:
11 "Please, sir, listen to me! I give you both the field and the cave in it; in the presence of my kinsmen I make this gift. Bury your dead!"	11 «No, señor, escúchame: te doy la finca y te doy también la cueva que hay en ella. A la vista de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy: sepulta a tu muerta.»
12 But Abraham, after bowing low before the local citizens, addressed Ephron in the hearing of these men:	12 Abraham hizo una reverencia a los paisanos,
13 "Ah, if only you would please listen to me! I will pay you the price of the field. Accept it from me, that I may bury my dead there."	13 y se dirigió a Efrón, a oídas de los paisanos, diciendo: «A ver si nos entendemos. Te doy el precio de la finca acéptamelo y enterraré allí a mi muerta.»
14 Ephron replied to Abraham, "Please,	14 Respondió Efrón a Abraham:
15 sir, listen to me! A piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver--what is that between you and me, as long as you can bury your dead?"	15 «Señor mío, escúchame: Cuatrocientos siclos de plata por un terreno, ¿qué nos suponen a ti y a mí? Sepulta a tu muerta.»
16 Abraham accepted Ephron's terms; he weighed out to him the silver that Ephron had stipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, four hundred shekels of silver at the current market value.	16 Abraham accedió y pesó a Efrón la plata que éste había pedido a oídas de los hijos de Het: cuatrocientos siclos de plata corriente de mercader.
17 Thus Ephron's field in Machpelah, facing Mamre, together with its cave and all the trees anywhere within its limits, was conveyed	17 Así fue cómo la finca de Efrón que está en la Makpelá, frente a Mambré, la finca y la cueva que hay en ella y todos los árboles que rodean la finca por todos sus lindes, todo ello vino a ser
18 to Abraham by purchase in the presence of all the Hittites who sat on Ephron's town council.	18 propiedad de Abraham, a la vista de los hijos de Het, y todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.
19 After this transaction, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.	19 Después Abraham sepultó a su mujer Sara en la cueva del campo de la Makpelá frente a Mambré (es Hebrón), en Canaán.
20 Thus the field with its cave was transferred from the Hittites to Abraham as a burial place.	20 Así aquel campo y la cueva que hay en él llegaron a ser de Abraham como propiedad sepulcral, recibida de los hijos de Het.
