1 In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth,	1 Au commencement Dieu créa le ciel et la terre.
2 the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters.	2 La terre était informe et vide, les ténèbres couvraient l’abîme, et l’Esprit de Dieu planait au-dessus des eaux.
3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.	3 Dieu dit: “Que la lumière soit!” Et la lumière fut.
4 God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness.	4 Dieu vit que la lumière était bonne, et Dieu sépara la lumière d’avec les ténèbres.
5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." Thus evening came, and morning followed--the first day.	5 Dieu appela la lumière: “jour”, il appela les ténèbres: “nuit”. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: premier jour.
6 Then God said, "Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other." And so it happened:	6 Dieu dit: “Qu’il y ait une voûte au milieu des eaux, et qu’elle sépare les eaux d’avec les eaux!” Et il en fut ainsi!
7 God made the dome, and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it.	7 Dieu fit donc comme une voûte, et il sépara les eaux qui sont au-dessous de la voûte, des eaux qui sont au-dessus de la voûte.
8 God called the dome "the sky." Evening came, and morning followed--the second day.	8 Dieu donna un nom à cette voûte: “le ciel”. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: deuxième jour.
9 Then God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered into a single basin, so that the dry land may appear." And so it happened: the water under the sky was gathered into its basin, and the dry land appeared.	9 Dieu dit: “Que les eaux qui sont au-dessous du ciel s’amassent en une seule masse et que le sol ferme apparaisse!” Il en fut ainsi.
10 God called the dry land "the earth," and the basin of the water he called "the sea." God saw how good it was.	10 Dieu donna un nom au sol ferme: “la terre”, et il appela “mers” la masse des eaux; Dieu vit que cela était bon.
11 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it." And so it happened:	11 Dieu dit: “Que la terre produise de la verdure, de l’herbe portant sa semence, et des arbres qui donnent sur terre des fruits contenant leur semence, chacun selon son espèce!” Il en fut ainsi.
12 the earth brought forth every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it was.	12 La terre produisit de la verdure, de l’herbe portant sa semence selon son espèce, et des arbres dont les fruits ont en eux leur semence selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.
13 Evening came, and morning followed--the third day.	13 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: troisième jour.
14 Then God said: "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years,	14 Dieu dit: “Qu’il y ait des luminaires à la voûte du ciel pour séparer le jour de la nuit, pour marquer les saisons, les jours et les années:
15 and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth." And so it happened:	15 ils brilleront à la voûte du ciel pour éclairer la terre!” Il en fut ainsi.
16 God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars.	16 Dieu fit donc les deux grands luminaires: le grand luminaire pour gouverner le jour, et le petit luminaire pour gouverner la nuit. Il fit aussi les étoiles.
17 God set them in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth,	17 Dieu les fixa à la voûte du ciel pour éclairer la terre,
18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was.	18 pour gouverner le jour et la nuit, pour séparer la lumière des ténèbres. Dieu vit que cela était bon.
19 Evening came, and morning followed--the fourth day.	19 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: quatrième jour.
20 Then God said, "Let the water teem with an abundance of living creatures, and on the earth let birds fly beneath the dome of the sky." And so it happened:	20 Dieu dit: “Que les eaux se peuplent d’une multitude d’êtres vivants, et qu’il y ait des oiseaux pour voler au-dessus de la terre en dessous de la voûte du ciel!”
21 God created the great sea monsters and all kinds of swimming creatures with which the water teems, and all kinds of winged birds. God saw how good it was,	21 Dieu créa donc les grands monstres de la mer et tous les êtres vivants qui se glissent et qui foisonnent dans les eaux selon leur espèce, et tous les oiseaux selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.
22 and God blessed them, saying, "Be fertile, multiply, and fill the water of the seas; and let the birds multiply on the earth."	22 Dieu les bénit et leur dit: “Développez-vous, multipliez-vous, remplissez les eaux de la mer, et que les oiseaux se multiplient sur la terre!”
23 Evening came, and morning followed--the fifth day.	23 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: cinquième jour.
24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things, and wild animals of all kinds." And so it happened:	24 Dieu dit: “Que la terre produise des bêtes de toute espèce: animaux des champs, reptiles, bêtes sauvages, chacun selon son espèce!” Il en fut ainsi.
25 God made all kinds of wild animals, all kinds of cattle, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. God saw how good it was.	25 Dieu fit les bêtes sauvages selon leur espèce, les animaux des champs selon leur espèce, et tous les reptiles de la terre selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.
26 Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground."	26 Dieu dit: “Faisons l’Homme à notre image et à notre ressemblance. Qu’il ait autorité sur les poissons de la mer, les oiseaux du ciel, les animaux des champs et toutes les bêtes sauvages et les reptiles qui rampent sur la terre!”
27 God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them.	27 Dieu créa l’Homme à son image; à l’image de Dieu il le créa; Homme et Femme il les créa.
28 God blessed them, saying: "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth."	28 Dieu les bénit et leur dit: “Développez-vous, multipliez-vous, remplissez la terre et dominez-la. Ayez autorité sur les poissons de la mer, les oiseaux du ciel et tous les animaux qui vont et viennent sur la terre!”
29 God also said: "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food;	29 Dieu dit: “Je vous donne en ce jour toutes les plantes à graines qui poussent sur toute la terre, et tous les arbres qui portent des fruits avec leur semence: ce sera là votre nourriture.
30 and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food." And so it happened.	30 L’herbe verte sera la nourriture des bêtes sauvages, des oiseaux du ciel, et de tous les animaux qui vont et viennent sur la terre.” Il en fut ainsi.
31 God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed--the sixth day.	31 Dieu vit tout ce qu’il avait fait: cela était très bon. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: sixième jour.
