1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.	1 Il Signore disse a Samuele: Fino a quando piangerai Saul, mentre io l'ho rigettato, perchè non regni sopra Israele? Or riempi d'olio il tuo corno, e vieni, chè ti mandi ad Isai Betlemita, perchè mi son provveduto un re tra i suoi figli ».
2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he Will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.	2 E Samuele disse: « Come potrò andarci? Saul lo saprà e mi ucciderà ». E il Signore a lui: « Condurrai colla tua mano un giovenco, e dirai: Son venuto per sacrificare al Signore.
3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.	3 Chiamerai Isai al sacrifizio; allora io ti mostrerò quello che tu devi fare, e ungerai colui che io ti indicherò ».
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?	4 Samuele, eseguendo quello che il Signore gli aveva detto, andò a Betlemme. Gli anziani, andatigli incontro maravigliati, dissero: « È pacifica la tua venuta? »
5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.	5 « Pacifica, rispose, son venuto per immolare al Signore: santificatevi e venite con me al sacrifizio ». Egli poi santificò Isai ed i suoi figli, e li chiamò al sacrifizio.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.	6 Entrati che furono, guardando Eliab, disse: « È forse davanti al Signore il suo unto? »
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.	7 Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: « Non badare al suo volto, ne all'altezza della, sua statura, perchè io l'ho scartato: io non giudico secondo le vedute umane, perchè l'uomo mira le cose che dàn negli occhi; ma il Signore vede il cuore,
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.	8 Isai, chiamato Abinadab, lo presentò a Samuele, il quale disse: « Il Signore non ha eletto neppur questo ».
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.	9 E Isai gli condusse Samme; ma anche di lui disse: « Neppure questo ha eletto il Signore ».
10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.	10 Isai allora fece venire i suoi sette figli davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse, ad isai: « Il Signore non ha eletto nessuno di questi ».
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.	11 Poi Samuele disse ad Isai: « Son forse tutti qui i tuoi figli? » Isai rispose: « Resta ancora un ragazzo che pasce le pecore ».
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.	12 E Samuele gli disse: « Fallo venir qui, perchè non ci metteremo a tavola finché non sia arrivato lui ».
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.	13 Mandò a chiamarlo e lo fece venire. Egli era biondo, di bell'aspetto e di viso avvenente. E il Signore disse: Orsù, ungilo: è lui ». Allora Samuele, preso il corno dell'olio, lo unse in mezzo ai suoi fratelli. Da quel giorno in poi lo Spirito del Signore si posò sopra David. Poi Samuele partì e andò a Ramata.
14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.	14 Ma Io Spirito del Signore si ritirò da Saul, che era tormentato da uno spirito malvagio mandato dal Signore.
15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.	15 I servi dissero a Saul: « Ecco che uno spirito malvagio, mandato da Dio, ti tormenta:
16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.	16 comandi il signore nostro, e i tuoi servi che stanno davanti a te, cercheranno un uomo il quale sappia sonar l'arpa, affinchè, quando le spirito malvagio mandato dal Signore ti avrà investito, egli suoni colla sua mano e tu ne sia sollevato ».
17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.	17 E Saul disse ai suoi servi: « Trovatemi adunque uno che suoni bene, e conducetelo a me ».
18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.	18 Allora uno dei servi, rispondendo, disse: « Ecco, io conosco il figlio d'Isai Betlemita. il quale sa sonare, è dotato di grandissima forza, è uomo bellicoso, prudente nei parlare, di bell'aspetto, e il Signore è con lui ».
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.	19 Saul allora mandò dei messi a dire ad Isai: « Mandami tuo figlio che va alla pastura ».
20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.	20 E Isai, preso un asino carico di pane, un otre di vino e un capretto, lo mandò a Saul per mezzo di David suo figlio. David giunto da Saul si presentò dinanzi a lui, e Saul lo amò grandemente e lo fece suo scudiere.
21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.	21 Poi Saul mandò a dire ad Isai: « Lascia che David stia presso di me, perchè ha trovato grazia negli occhi miei ».
22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.	22 Ogni volta che lo spirito malvagio, mandato dal Signore, investiva Saul, David prendeva l'arpa e la sonava colla sua mano; allora Saul si riaveva e stava meno male, perchè lo spirito malvagisi ritirava da lui.
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
