1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.	1 E il Signore disse a Samuele: Fino a quando piangerai tu Saul mentre io lo ho rigettato, perchè non regni sopra Israele? Riempi di olio il tuo corno, e vieni, perch'io ti spedisca a casa d’Isai di Bethlehem: perocché tra’ figliuoli di lui mi son provveduto un re.
2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he Will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.	2 E Samuele disse: Come andrò io? perocché saprallo Saul, e mi ucciderà. E il Signore disse: Condurrai colla tua mano un vitello di branco, e dirai: Son venuto per sacrificare al Signore.
3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.	3 E inviterai Isai alla vittima, e io t'insegnerò quello che tu abbia da fare, e ungerai quello che io ti accennerò.
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?	4 Fece adunque Samuele, come gli avea detto il Signore. E andò a Bethlehem, e ne restarono meravigliati i seniori della città, e gli andarono incontro, e dissero: Porti tu pace?
5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.	5 Ed egli disse: Porto pace: sono venuto per offerire sacrifizio al Signore: purificatevi, e venite meco affinchè io faccia l'immolazione. Egli adunque purificò Isai, e i suoi figliuoli, e chiamogli al sacrifizio.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.	6 E mentre essi entravano (Samuele) gettò gli occhi sopra Eliab, e disse: Sarebb'egli davanti al Signore l'unto di lui?
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.	7 Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: Non badare al suo volto, nè alla statura grande di lui, perocché io l'ho rigettato, e io non giudico secondo quel che apparisce allo sguardo dell'uomo: perchè l'uomo vede le cose che dan negli occhi, ma il Signore mira il cuore.
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.	8 E Isai chiamò Abinadab, e presentollo a Samuele, il quale disse: neppur questo è l'eletto del Signore.
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.	9 E Isai gli condusse Samma; e di lui quegli disse: Questo pure non è l'eletto del Signore.
10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.	10 Isai adunque fece venire i suoi sette figliuoli dinanzi a Samuele, e Samuele disse ad Isai: nissun di questi è l'eletto dal Signore.
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.	11 E Samuele disse ad Isai: Non hai tu altri figliuoli? E quegli rispose: resta ancora un fanciullo, che pasce le pecore. Samuele disse ad Isai: Fallo condur qua, conciossiachè non ci metteremo a tavola, prima che egli venga.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.	12 Quegli allora mandò a prenderlo, e lo presentò. Or egli era di pelo rosso, di bell'aspetto, e di viso avvenente. E il Signore disse: Su via, ungilo; egli è desso.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.	13 Samuele adunque prese il corno dell'olio, e alla presenza de’ suoi fratelli lo unse: e da quel giorno in poi lo spirito del Signore posò sopra Davidde: e Samuele partì e andó a Ramatha.
14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.	14 Ma si ritirò da Saul lo Spirito del Signore, e lo vessava (permettendolo il Signore) uno spirito malo.
15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.	15 E i cortigiani di Saul dissero a lui: Ecco che tu sei travagliato (permettendolo Dio) da uno spirito malo.
16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.	16 Se tu, signor nostro, il comandi, li servi tuoi che stanno intorno a te, cercheranno di un uomo abile in sonar l’arpa, affinchè quando ti prende (permettendolo il Signore) lo spirito malo, ei lo suoni, e tu ne risenta alleggiamento.
17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.	17 E Saul disse a’ suoi servi: Trovatemi adunque qualcheduno che suoni bene, e conducetelo a me.
18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.	18 E uno de' servi disse: Poco fa ho veduto il figliuolo d'Isai di Bethlehem che sa sonare, è dotato di gran fortezza, e buono per la guerra, prudente nel parlare, e di bell'aspetto: e il Signore è con lui.
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.	19 Saul adunque mandò a dire a Isai: mandami Davidde tuo figliuolo, che va alla pastura.
20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.	20 E Isai prese un asino carico di pane, e un otre di vino, e un capretto, e mandò il tutto a Saulle per le mani di David suo figliuolo.
21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.	21 E David andò a trovar Saul, e si presentò dinanzi a lui, ed ei gli pose grandissimo affetto, e lo fece suo scudiere.
22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.	22 E mandò Saul a dire ad Isai: Si stia David presso di me: perchè ha trovato grazia negli occhi miei.
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.	23 Ogni volta pertanto che lo spirito malo (permettendolo il Signore) investiva Saul, Davidde prendeva l’arpa, e la sonava, e Saul si riaveva, e stava meno male, perchè se ne andava da lui il malo spirito.
