1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.	1 Gli uomini di Efraim si radunarono in armi; poi varcarono il Giordano in direzione di Safon, e dissero a Iefte: "Perché hai mosso guerra agli Ammoniti senza chiamarci in tuo aiuto? Siamo decisi a bruciare la tua casa con te dentro!".
2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.	2 Iefte rispose loro: "Io e il mio popolo, duramente oppressi dagli Ammoniti, eravamo in una situazione tanto grave che chiesi il vostro aiuto, ma non mi avete salvato dalle loro mani.
3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?	3 Allora, resomi conto che non c'era nessuno che mi avrebbe salvato, mi buttai allo sbaraglio assalendo gli Ammoniti: il Signore li ha dati in mia mano. Che motivo avete dunque oggi per muovermi guerra?".
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.	4 Iefte, chiamati a raccolta tutti gli uomini del Gàlaad, dette battaglia ad Efraim e i Galaaditi sconfissero quelli di Efraim, che li avevano assaliti perché li consideravano loro ribelli, gente che apparteneva ad Efraim e a Manasse.
5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;	5 I Galaaditi occuparono i guadi del Giordano attraverso i quali si poteva raggiungere il territorio di Efraim. Quando i fuggiaschi dell'esercito efraimita chiedevano di passare, i Galaaditi domandavano loro, uno per uno, se erano Efraimiti, e quelli rispondevano di no.
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.	6 Ma i Galaaditi imponevano loro di dire "scibbòlet", ed essi rispondevano "sibbòlet", perché non sapevano pronunciare correttamente la parola. Allora li afferravano e li sgozzavano sui guadi del Giordano. Degli Efraimiti, in quell'occasione, ne morirono quarantaduemila.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.	7 Iefte fu giudice in Israele per sei anni. Poi Iefte il Galaadita morì e fu sepolto nella sua città nel Gàlaad.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.	8 Dopo di lui fu giudice in Israele Ibsan di Betlemme,
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.	9 che aveva trenta figli e trenta figlie: queste mandò spose fuori della sua gente e da fuori fece venire trenta ragazze per darle spose ai suoi figli. Egli fu giudice in Israele per sette anni.
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.	10 Quando Ibsan morì, fu sepolto in Betlemme.
11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.	11 Dopo di lui venne lo zabulonita Elon, il quale fu giudice in Israele per dieci anni.
12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.	12 Quando lo zabulonita Elon morì, fu sepolto in Aialon, nel territorio di Zabulon.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.	13 Dopo di lui fu giudice in Israele Abdon, figlio di Illel, della città di Piraton.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.	14 Aveva quaranta figli e trenta nipoti che cavalcavano settanta asini. Egli fu giudice in Israele per otto anni.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.	15 Quando Abdon, figlio di Illel, della città di Piraton, morì, fu sepolto in Piraton, nel territorio di Efraim, sul monte dell'Amalecita.
