1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.	1 Les hommes d’Éphraïm se rassemblèrent et traversèrent à la hauteur de Saphon. Ils dirent à Jephté: “Pourquoi es-tu parti combattre les Ammonites et ne nous as-tu pas invités pour aller avec toi? Nous allons brûler sur toi ta maison.”
2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.	2 Mais Jephté leur répondit: “Moi et mon peuple, nous étions en conflit avec les Ammonites. Je vous ai appelés mais vous ne m’avez pas délivré de leurs mains.
3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?	3 Quand j’ai vu que vous ne veniez pas me délivrer, j’ai risqué ma vie. J’ai engagé le combat contre les Ammonites et Yahvé les a livrés entre mes mains. Est-ce une raison pour venir maintenant m’attaquer?”
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.	4 Jephté rassembla tous les hommes de Galaad et engagea le combat contre Éphraïm. Les hommes de Galaad écrasèrent ceux d’Éphraïm qui disaient: “Vous, gens de Galaad, vous n’êtes que des transfuges d’Éphraïm, vous êtes passés d’Éphraïm à Manassé.”
5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;	5 Galaad s’empara des gués du Jourdain du côté d’Éphraïm, et lorsque les fuyards d’Éphraïm disaient: “Je veux traverser”, les hommes de Galaad lui disaient: “Es-tu d’Éphraïm?” S’il répondait: “Non”
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.	6 alors on lui disait: “Prononce Chibboleth!” Et s’il prononçait: Sibboleth” (car ils ne réussissaient pas à prononcer correctement) on le saisissait et on l’égorgeait au gué du Jourdain. 42 000 hommes d’Éphraïm furent massacrés ce jour-là.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.	7 Jephté jugea Israël durant 6 ans. Puis Jephté de Galaad mourut et fut enterré dans sa ville, en Galaad.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.	8 Après lui Ibsan de Bethléem jugea Israël.
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.	9 Il eut 30 fils et 30 filles; il maria ses filles au-dehors et fit venir du dehors des filles pour ses fils. Pendant 7 ans il jugea Israël.
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.	10 Ibsan mourut et on l’enterra à Bethléem.
11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.	11 Après lui Élon, de Zabulon, jugea Israël. Il jugea Israël pendant 10 ans.
12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.	12 Puis Élon de Zabulon mourut et on l’enterra à Ayyalon, au pays de Zabulon.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.	13 Après lui ce fut Abdon, fils de Hillel, de Piréaton, qui jugea Israël.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.	14 Il avait 40 fils et 30 petits-fils qui montaient 70 ânons. Il jugea Israël pendant 8 ans.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.	15 Quand Abdon, fils de Hillel, de Piréaton, mourut, on l’enterra à Piréaton au pays d’Éphraïm, dans la montagne des Amalécites.
