1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.	1 Ed ecco che nacque sedizione nella tribù di Ephraim: perocché passati questi verso settentrione andarono a dire a Jephte: Per qual motivo andando a combattere contro i figliuoli di Ammon non hai voluto invitarci, perchè venissimo teco? Ora noi darem fuoco alla tua casa.
2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.	2 Rispose egli loro: Io, e il mio popolo eravamo a gran contesa co' figliuoli di Ammon: e io vi chiamai, affinchè mi recaste aiuto, e non voleste farlo.
3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?	3 Lo che avendo veduto posi a repentaglio la mia vita, e andai contro i figliuoli di Ammon, e il Signore li diede nelle mie mani. Ho io meritato, che voi vi moviate a farmi guerra?
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.	4 E radunati presso di sé tutti quelli di Galaad, venne alle mani con que' di Ephraim: e i Galaaditi sconfissero gli Ephraimiti, i quali avean detto: Galaad è un fuggitivo di Ephraim, che sta in mezzo tra Ephraim e Manasse.
5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;	5 E i Galaaditi posero guardie a' guadi del Giordano, pei quali dovean ripassare que' di Ephraim. E allorché vi giungeva alcuno de' molti fuggitivi, e diceva: Vi prego di lasciarmi passare: dicevano a lui i Galaaditi: Se’ tu forse Ephratheo? E rispondendo egli: Nol sono:
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.	6 Gli replicavano: Di' adunque Scibboleth, che vuol dire spiga. E quegli pronunziava, Sibboleth: non sapendo esprimere il nome di spiga colla giusta sua lettera. E immediatamente lo pigliavano, e lo scannavano al passo medesimo del Giordano. E perirono in quel tempo quaranta due mila uomini di Ephraim.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.	7 Così Jephte di Galaad governò Israele per sei anni: e morì, e fu sepolto nella sua città di Galaad.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.	8 Dopo di lui fu giudice d'Israele Abesan di Bethlehem:
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.	9 Il quale ebbe trenta figli, e altrettante figliuole, le quali maritò mandandole fuori della sua gente, e altrettante fanciulle di fuori condusse in sua casa spose de' suoi figliuoli. Ei fu giudice d’Israele per sette anni:
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.	10 E morì, e fu sepolto in Bethlehem.
11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.	11 E a lui succedette Ahialon Zabulonita, e fu giudice d'Israele per dieci anni:
12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.	12 E morì, e fu sepolto in Zabulon.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.	13 Dopo di lui fu giudice d'Israele Abdon, figliuolo di Illel di Pharathon:
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.	14 II quale ebbe quaranta figliuoli, e da questi trenta nipoti, i quali cavalcarono settanta asini giovani, ed ei fu giudice d’Israele per otto anni.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.	15 E morì, e fu sepolto a Pharathon nel paese di Ephraim sul monte Amalec.
