King James Bible Le Sainte Bible Vigouroux
And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.1 Paul, regardant fixement le Conseil, dit : Mes frères, c'est en toute bonne conscience que je me suis conduit devant Dieu jusqu'à ce jour.
And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.2 Le grand prêtre Ananie ordonna à ceux qui étaient près de lui de le frapper au visage.
Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?3 Alors Paul lui dit: Dieu te frappera, muraille blanchie. Tu es assis pour me juger selon la loi, et, contrairement à la loi, tu ordonnes de me frapper?
And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?4 Ceux qui étaient présents dirent: Tu maudis le grand prêtre de Dieu?
Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.5 Paul répondit : Je ne savais pas, mes frères, que ce fût le grand prêtre ; car il est écrit : Tu ne maudiras pas le prince de ton peuple.
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.6 Or Paul, sachant qu'ils étaient en partie sadducéens, et en partie pharisiens, s'écria dans l'assemblée : Mes frères, je suis pharisien, fils de pharisien(s) ; c'est à cause de l'espérance et de la résurrection des morts, que je suis mis en jugement.
And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.7 Lorsqu'il eut dit ces mots, il y eut une dissension entre les pharisiens et les sadducéens, et l'assemblée fut divisée.
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.8 Car les sadducéens disent qu'il n'y a ni resurrection, ni Ange, ni esprit; mais les pharisiens admettent l'un et l'autre.
And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.9 Il se fit une grande clameur; et quelques-uns des pharisiens, se levant, contestaient, en disant: Nous ne trouvons rien de mal dans cet homme; si un Ange ou un esprit lui avait parlé?
And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.10 Comme le tumulte augmentait, le tribun, craignant que Paul ne fût mis en pièces par eux, ordonna à des soldats de descendre, de l'enlever d'au milieu d'eux et de le conduire dans la forteresse.
And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.11 La nuit suivante le Seigneur lui apparut, et lui dit: Aie bon courage; car comme tu M'as rendu témoignage à Jérusalem, il faut aussi que tu Me rendes témoignage à Rome.
And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.12 Quand le jour fut venu, quelques-uns d'entre les Juifs se réunirent, et s'engagèrent par voeu à ne pas manger et à ne pas boire, tant qu'ils n'auraient pas tué Paul.
And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.13 Ils étaient plus de quarante qui avaient fait cette conjuration.
And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.14 Ils se présentèrent aux princes des prêtres et aux anciens, et dirent : Nous nous sommes engagés par vœu, sous (appelant sur nous l') anathème, à ne pas manger, jusqu'à ce que nous ayons tué Paul.
Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.15 Maintenant donc, avec le conseil, adressez-vous au tribun, pour qu'il le fasse comparaître devant vous, comme si vous vouliez étudier plus à fond son affaire; et nous, avant qu'il arrive, nous serons prêts à le tuer.
And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.16 Mais le fils de la soeur de Paul, ayant appris ce complot, vint et entra dans la forteresse, et avertit Paul.
Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.17 Et Paul, appelant à lui un des centurions, lui dit : Conduis ce jeune homme au tribun, car il a quelque chose à lui communiquer.
So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.18 Le centurion, prenant le jeune homme avec lui, le mena au tribun, et dit: Le prisonnier Paul m'a prié de t'amener ce jeune homme, qui a quelque chose à te dire.
Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?19 Le tribun le prenant par la main, se retira à l'écart avec lui, et lui demanda: Qu'est-ce que tu as a me communiquer?
And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly.20 Il répondit: Les Juifs sont convenus de te prier de faire comparaître Paul demain devant le conseil, comme s'ils voulaient étudier plus à fond son affaire.
But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.21 Mais ne les crois pas; car plus de quarante hommes d'entre eux lui dressent des embûches, et se sont engagés sous anathème à ne pas manger et à ne pas boire jusqu'à ce qu'ils l'aient tué; et maintenant ils sont prêts, attendant ta promesse.
So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.22 Le tribun renvoya donc le jeune homme, en lui ordonnant de ne dire à personne qu'il l'avait instruit de ces choses.
And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;23 Et ayant appelé deux centurions, il leur dit : Tenez prêts deux cents soldats pour aller jusqu'à Césarée, soixante-dix cavaliers et deux cents lanciers, dès la troisième heure de la nuit ;
And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.24 préparez aussi des chevaux, pour y faire monter Paul, afin qu'ils le conduisent sain et sauf au gouverneur Félix.
And he wrote a letter after this manner:25 Car il craignait que les Juifs ne l'enlevassent et ne le missent à mort, et qu'ensuite on ne l'accusât lui-même d'avoir reçu de l'argent.
Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.26 Il écrivit une lettre contenant ces mots : Claudius Lysias, au très excellent gouverneur Félix, salut.
This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.27 Les Juifs s'étaient saisis de cet homme, et étaient sur le point de le tuer, lorsque, arrivant avec la troupe, je le délivrai, ayant appris qu'il est citoyen romain ;
And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:28 et voulant savoir de quoi ils l'accusaient, je l'ai conduit à leur Conseil.
Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.29 J'ai trouvé qu'il était accusé pour des questions relatives à leur loi, mais qu'il n'a commis aucun crime digne de mort ou de prison.
And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.30 Et comme on m'a averti des embûches qu'ils lui avaient tendues, je te l'ai envoyé, avertissant les accusateurs de s'expliquer devant toi. Adieu.
Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.31 Les soldats, selon l'ordre qu'ils avaient reçu, prirent donc Paul, et le conduisirent pendant la nuit à Antipatride ;
On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:32 et le jour suivant, ils revinrent à la forteresse, ayant laissé les cavaliers aller avec lui.
Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.33 Ceux-ci, étant arrivés à Césarée, remirent la lettre au gouverneur, et lui présentèrent aussi Paul.
And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;34 L'ayant lue, il demanda de quelle province il était ; et apprenant qu'il était de Cilicie :
I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.35 Je t'entendrai, dit-il, quand tes accusateurs seront venus. Et il ordonna de le garder dans le palais d'Hérode.
