Deuteronomy 23

1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.	1 Un homme ne prendra pas la femme de son père: il ne découvrira pas la nudité de son père.
2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.	2 Si quelqu’un a les testicules écrasés ou l’urètre coupé, il n’entrera pas dans la communauté de Yahvé.
3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:	3 Le métis non plus n’entrera pas dans la communauté de Yahvé. Même à la dixième génération il est exclu de la communauté de Yahvé.
4 Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.	4 L’Ammonite et le Moabite seront exclus de la communauté de Yahvé; même à la dixième génération, ils n’entreront pas dans la communauté de Yahvé.
5 Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.	5 En effet, ils ne sont pas venus au-devant de vous sur la route, avec du pain et de l’eau, lorsque vous sortiez d’Égypte. Plus encore, ils ont payé pour vous maudire, Balaam, fils de Béor, de Pétor en Mésopotamie.
6 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.	6 Mais Yahvé ton Dieu n’a pas voulu écouter Balaam; Yahvé ton Dieu t’aime, et il a retourné pour toi sa malédiction en bénédiction.
7 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.	7 C’est pourquoi, tout au long de ta vie, tu ne te soucieras pas de leur bien-être et de leur bonheur.
8 The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.	8 Par contre, tu n’auras pas de haine pour l’Édomite, car il est ton frère. Tu n’auras pas de haine non plus pour l’Égyptien, car tu as été un étranger dans son pays.
9 When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.	9 À la troisième génération, leurs descendants pourront entrer dans la communauté de Yahvé.
10 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:	10 Lorsque tu partiras en campagne contre tes ennemis, tu veilleras à ne commettre aucune action mauvaise.
11 But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.	11 S’il y a au milieu de toi un homme impur à la suite d’une pollution nocturne, il sortira du camp et n’y rentrera pas.
12 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:	12 À la tombée de la nuit il se baignera dans l’eau et, après le coucher du soleil, il rentrera à l’intérieur du camp.
13 And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:	13 On fixera un endroit à l’extérieur du camp pour se retirer à l’écart.
14 For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.	14 Dans ton équipement tu auras une pique; lorsque tu t’accroupiras à l’écart, tu feras un trou avec ta pique, et lorsque tu te relèveras, tu recouvriras tes excréments.
15 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:	15 Car Yahvé ton Dieu se promène au milieu de ton camp, pour te protéger et pour livrer tes ennemis entre tes mains; c’est pourquoi ton camp sera saint: Yahvé ne doit pas voir de saletés chez toi, sinon, il se détournerait de toi.
16 He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.	16 Si un esclave s’est enfui de chez son maître pour venir chez toi, tu ne le lui livreras pas.
17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.	17 Il demeurera chez toi, dans ta maison, au lieu qu’il aura choisi dans l’une de tes villes où bon lui semblera; et tu ne lui feras pas de mal.
18 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.	18 On ne trouvera pas de prostituées sacrées chez les filles d’Israël, ni de prostitués sacrés chez les fils d’Israël.
19 Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:	19 Quel que soit le vœu que tu aies fait, tu n’offriras pas dans la maison de Yahvé ton Dieu le salaire d’une prostituée ou celui d’un chien (un prostitué sacré), car Yahvé ton Dieu a en horreur l’un et l’autre.
20 Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.	20 Tu ne prêteras pas à ton frère avec intérêt, qu’il s’agisse d’argent, ou de nourriture, ou de toute autre chose pour laquelle on demande un intérêt.
21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.	21 À l’étranger tu prêteras avec intérêt, mais tu ne le feras pas pour ton frère. Ainsi Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira dans tout ce que tu entreprendras sur cette terre où tu vas entrer pour la posséder.
22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.	22 Lorsque tu feras un vœu à Yahvé ton Dieu, tu l’accompliras sans tarder, sinon Yahvé ton Dieu t’en demanderait compte et tu pécherais contre lui.
23 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.	23 Mais si tu ne fais pas de vœu, tu ne pèches pas.
24 When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.	24 Tu veilleras à faire ce que tu auras promis: les vœux que tu as faits et les offrandes que tu as promises à Yahvé ton Dieu.
25 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.	25 Lorsque tu traverseras la vigne de ton prochain, tu pourras grappiller des raisins comme tu le voudras jusqu’à ne plus avoir faim, mais tu n’en mettras pas dans ton panier.
	26 De même lorsque tu traverseras les blés de ton prochain: tu pourras y cueillir des épis avec la main, mais tu ne mettras pas la faucille dans les blés de ton prochain.
