1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,	1 En el año quince del imperio de Tiberio César, siendo Poncio Pilato procurador de Judea, y Herodes tetrarca de Galilea; Filipo, su hermano, tetrarca de Iturea y de Traconítida, y Lisanias tetrarca de Abilene;
2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.	2 en el pontificado de Anás y Caifás, fue dirigida la palabra de Dios a Juan, hijo de Zacarías, en el desierto.
3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;	3 Y se fue por toda la región del Jordán proclamando un bautismo de conversión para perdón de los pecados,
4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.	4 como está escrito en el libro de los oráculos del profeta Isaías: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Preparad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus sendas;
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;	5 todo barranco será rellenado, todo monte y colina será rebajado, lo tortuoso se hará recto y las asperezas serán caminos llanos.
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.	6 Y todos verán la salvación de Dios.
7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?	7 Decía, pues, a la gente que acudía para ser bautizada por él: «Raza de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado a huir de la ira inminente?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.	8 Dad, pues, frutos dignos de conversión, y no andéis diciendo en vuestro interior: “Tenemos por padre a Abraham”; porque os digo que puede Dios de estas piedras dar hijos a Abraham.
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.	9 Y ya está el hacha puesta a la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no dé buen fruto será cortado y arrojado al fuego».
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?	10 La gente le preguntaba: «Pues ¿qué debemos hacer?»
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.	11 Y él les respondía: «El que tenga dos túnicas, que las reparta con el que no tiene; el que tenga para comer, que haga lo mismo».
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?	12 Vinieron también publicanos a bautizarse, y le dijeron: «Maestro, ¿qué debemos hacer?»
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.	13 El les dijo: «No exijáis más de lo que os está fijado».
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.	14 Preguntáronle también unos soldados: «Y nosotros ¿qué debemos hacer?» El les dijo: «No hagáis extorsión a nadie, no hagáis denuncias falsas, y contentaos con vuestra soldada».
15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;	15 Como el pueblo estaba a la espera, andaban todos pensando en sus corazones acerca de Juan, si no sería él el Cristo;
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:	16 respondió Juan a todos, diciendo: «Yo os bautizo con agua; pero viene el que es más fuerte que yo, y no soy digno de desatarle la correa de sus sandalias. El os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego.
17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.	17 En su mano tiene el bieldo para limpiar su era y recoger el trigo en su granero; pero la paja la quemará con fuego que no se apaga».
18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.	18 Y, con otras muchas exhortaciones, anunciaba al pueblo la Buena Nueva.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,	19 Pero Herodes, el tetrarca, reprendido por él a causa de Herodías, la mujer de su hermano, y a causa de todas las malas acciones que había hecho,
20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.	20 añadió a todas ellas la de encerrar a Juan en la cárcel.
21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,	21 Sucedió que cuando todo el pueblo estaba bautizándose, bautizado también Jesús y puesto en oración, se abrió el cielo,
22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.	22 y bajó sobre él el Espíritu Santo en forma corporal, como una paloma; y vino una voz del cielo: «Tú eres mi hijo; yo hoy te he engendrado».
23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,	23 Tenía Jesús, al comenzar, unos treinta años, y era según se creía hijo de José, hijo de Helí,
24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,	24 hijo de Mattat, hijo de Leví, hijo de Melkí, hijo de Jannái, hijo de José,
25 Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,	25 hijo de Mattatías, hijo de Amós, hijo de Naúm, hijo de Eslí, hijo de Nangay,
