1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.	1 I figli d'Israele e tutta la moltitudine giunsero nel deserto di Sin al prima del mese, e il popolo si fermò a Cades. Ivi morì e fu sepolta Maria.
2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.	2 E il popolo, mancando l'acqua, fé assembramento contro Mosè ed Aronne,
3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!	3 e, levatosi a sedizione, disse: « Oh, fossimo morti anche noi coi nostri fratelli dinanzi al Signore!
4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?	4 Perchè avete condotta l'assemblea del Signore in questo deserto a farci morir di fame coi nostri giumenti?
5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.	5 Perchè ci avete fatti partire dall'Egitto e ci avete condotti in questo triste luogo che non può essere seminato, non produce nè fichi nè viti nè melagrane e gli manca anche l'acqua per bere? »
6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.	6 Mosè ed Aronne, lasciata la moltitudine, entrarono nel Tabernacolo dell'alleanza e prostratisi bocconi per terra, alzaron la voce al Signore, e dissero: « Signore Dio, ascolta il grido di questo popolo ed apri loro il tuo tesoro, una fonte d'acqua viva, che si dissetino e cessino di mormorare ». E la gloria del Signore apparve sopra di essi:
7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	7 e il Signore parlò a Mose, dicendo:
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.	8 « Prendi la verga,raduna il popolo, e in sua presenza tu e il tuo fratello Aronne parlate alla pietra, ed essa darà acqua; e dall'acqua fatta sgorgare dalia pietra sarà dissetato il popolo con i suoi giumenti ».
9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.	9 Mosèe adunque, seguendo l'ordine del Signore, prese la verga che era alla presenza del Signore,
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?	10 e radunata la moltitudine dinanzi alla pietra, disse loro: « Ascoltate,ribelli e increduli: potremo noi farvi uscire dell'acqua da questa pietra? »
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.	11 Allora Mosè alzò la mano, colla verga percosse due volte la pietra, e ne scaturirono tante acque da dissetare il popolo e il bestiame.
12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.	12 Ma il Signore disse a Mosè ad Aronne: « Perchè non mi avete creduto da santificarmi dinanzi ai figli d'Israele, voi non introdurrete questi popoli nella terra che darò loro ».
13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.	13 Questa è l'acqua, di contraddizione ove i figli d'Israele contesero contro il Signore, che fu santificato in mezzo a loro.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:	14 E Mosè spedì da Cades degli ambasciatori al re di Edom, a dirgli: « Queste cose ti fa sapere Israele tuo fratello: Tu sai tutti gli affanni che ci hanno afflitti:
15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:	15 come i nostri padri scesero in Egitto, ove abbiamo dimorato lungo tempo; come gli Egiziani abbiano maltrattato noi e i nostri padri;
16 And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:	16 come, avendo noi gridato al Signore, egli ci abbia esauditi, mandando il suo angelo che ei ha condotti fuor dell'Egitto. Ed ora, trovandoci nella città di Cades, che è all'estremità dei tuoi confini,
17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.	17 ti preghiamo a permetterci di passare per le tue terre. Noi non passeremo nè per i campi nè per le vigne nè berremo l'acqua dei tuoi pozzi, ma andremo per la strada pubblica, senza deviare nè a destra nè a sinistra, finché non abbiamo attraversato i tuoi confini ».
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.	18 Edom risposi: « Tu non passerai sul mio, altrimenti uscirò in armi contro di te ».
19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.	19 Gli replicarono i figli d'Israele: « Noi andremo por la strada maestra, e se noi e il nostro bestiame berremo della tua acqua, la pagheremo quello che è giusto, senza, far difficoltà sul prezzo, purché possiamo passare speditamente ».
20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.	20 Ma Edom rispose: « Non passerai ». E subito mosse contro Israele con infinita gente a mano armata;
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.	21 nè volle accondiscendere alla richiesita de] passaggio per i suoi confini. E Israele per questo si allontanò da lui.
22 And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.	22 Partiti da Cades, giunsero al monte Or, sui confini della Loria di Edom.
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,	23 Ivi il Signore parlò a Mosè
24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.	24 e disse: « Aronne deve andare a raggiungere i suoi pauri: padri: egli e non entrerà nella terra che ho data ai figli d'Israele, perchè non credette alle mie parole all'Acqua di contraddizione.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:	25 Prendi Aronne col suo figlio e conducili sul monte Or,
26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.	26 ove, spogliato il padre dei suoi paramenti, ne rivestirai Eleazaro suo figlio: Aronne andrà ai suoi padri e morrà ».
27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.	27 Mosè eseguì l'ordine del Signore: salirono sul monte Or alla vista, di tutta la moltitudine;
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.	28 spogliò Aronne dei suoi paramenti e ne rivestì Eleazaro suo figlio.
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.	29 Morto che fu Aronne sulla cima del monte, Mosè discese con Eleazaro.
	30 E tutto il popolo, avendo vedute che Aronne era morto, lo pianse in tutte le case per trenta giorni.
