1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.	1 Toute la communauté des Israélites arriva le premier mois au désert de Tsin. Le peuple s’établit à Qadesh, c’est là que Miryam mourut et qu’elle fut enterrée.
2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.	2 Il n’y avait pas d’eau pour la communauté, et les Israélites s’en prirent à Moïse et à Aaron.
3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!	3 Ils cherchèrent querelle à Moïse et lui dirent: “Pourquoi ne sommes-nous pas morts devant Yahvé comme nos frères?
4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?	4 Pourquoi avez-vous amené la communauté de Yahvé dans ce désert pour nous y faire mourir, nous et nos bêtes?
5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.	5 Vous nous avez fait sortir d’Égypte pour nous amener dans cet endroit impossible! Pas un endroit pour semer ni figuier, ni vigne, ni grenadier et pas même d’eau à boire!”
6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.	6 Moïse et Aaron s’échappèrent du milieu de la communauté et se présentèrent à l’entrée de la Tente du Rendez-Vous. Là ils tombèrent la face contre terre, et la Gloire de Yahvé leur apparut.
7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,	7 Yahvé dit à Moïse:
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.	8 “Prends ta baguette et, avec Aaron ton frère, réunis toute la communauté. Et sous les yeux de tous, vous direz au rocher de donner son eau. Tu feras jaillir pour eux l’eau du rocher et tu donneras à boire à la communauté et à son bétail.”
9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.	9 Moïse retira la baguette de devant Yahvé comme il en avait reçu l’ordre.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?	10 Puis Moïse et Aaron réunirent la communauté devant le rocher et Moïse dit: “Écoutez donc, rebelles! Ferons-nous jaillir pour vous de l’eau de ce rocher?”
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.	11 Moïse leva la main et par deux fois frappa le rocher avec sa baguette. Alors les eaux jaillirent en abondance: la communauté et son bétail eurent à boire.
12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.	12 Mais Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron: “Vous n’avez pas eu confiance en moi! Puisque vous ne m’avez pas rendu gloire devant les Israélites, vous ne ferez pas entrer cette communauté dans le pays que je lui donne.”
13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.	13 C’était aux eaux de Mériba; les Israélites protestèrent contre Yahvé, et il leur manifesta sa sainteté.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:	14 De Qadesh, Moïse envoya dire au roi d’Édom: “Ainsi parle ton frère Israël. Tu connais toutes les difficultés que nous avons rencontrées.
15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:	15 Nos pères sont descendus en Égypte et nous y sommes restés de nombreux jours, mais les Égyptiens nous ont maltraités, nous et nos pères.
16 And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:	16 Nous avons alors crié vers Yahvé et il a entendu notre appel: il a envoyé un ange qui nous a fait sortir d’Égypte. “Maintenant nous sommes à Qadesh, l’oasis à la frontière de ton pays.
17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.	17 Laisse-nous traverser ton pays; nous ne traverserons ni tes champs, ni tes vignes, et nous ne boirons pas l’eau de tes puits. Nous suivrons la route royale sans nous écarter ni à droite, ni à gauche, jusqu’au jour où nous aurons traversé ton pays.”
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.	18 Édom répondit: “Tu ne passeras pas chez moi, sinon j’irai à ta rencontre, l’épée à la main.”
19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.	19 Les Israélites lui dirent: “Nous suivrons la route et, si nous buvons de ton eau, nous et nos troupeaux, nous en paierons le prix. Nous ne laisserons que la trace de nos pieds.”
20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.	20 Édom répondit: “Tu ne passeras pas!” Et il s’avança vers Israël avec un peuple énorme et une grande armée.
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.	21 C’est ainsi qu’Édom interdit à Israël de traverser son territoire et Israël dut faire le détour.
22 And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.	22 Toute la communauté des Israélites partit de Qadesh et arriva à Hor-la-Montagne.
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,	23 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron quand ils étaient à Hor-la-Montagne, à la frontière du pays d’Édom:
24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.	24 “Aaron va être réuni à ses pères, il n’entrera pas dans le pays que je donne aux Israélites, car vous avez été rebelles à mes ordres aux eaux de Mériba.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:	25 Prends donc avec toi Aaron et son fils Éléazar, et faites l’ascension de la montagne de Hor.
26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.	26 Là tu retireras ses habits à Aaron et tu les mettras à Éléazar son fils, puis Aaron ira rejoindre ses pères, c’est là qu’il mourra.”
27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.	27 Moïse fit ce que Yahvé avait ordonné. Ils gravirent la montagne de Hor sous les yeux de toute la communauté.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.	28 Moïse enleva ses habits à Aaron et il en habilla son fils Éléazar. Puis Aaron mourut sur le haut de la montagne et Moïse redescendit de la montagne avec Éléazar.
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.	29 Toute la communauté vit qu’Aaron était mort et tout le peuple d’Israël pleura Aaron durant 30 jours.
