Amos 3

1 Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,	1 Ascoltate la parola che il Signore ha detta sopra di voi, o figli d'Israele, sopra tutta la famiglia che Egli fece uscire dalla terra d'Egitto. Ha detto:
2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.	2 « Voi soli ho conosciuti fra tutte le famiglie della terra, per questo punirò in voi tutte le vostre iniquità.
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?	3 Potranno due persone camminare insieme, se non sono d'accordo fra loro?
4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?	4 Rugge forse il leone nella foresta, senza aver una preda? E il leoncello farà sentire la voce dalla sua tana, se non ha preso qualche cosa?
5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?	5 Un uccello cadrà forse nel laccio sopra la terra, senza l'opera dell'uccellatore? E il laccio si toglie forse di terra, avanti che abbia preso qualche cosa?
6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?	6 Potrà sonare in una città la tromba, senza che il popolo si spaventi? E vi potrà essere nella città un male che non sia opera del Signore?
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.	7 Certo il Signore non fa le cose, senza aver (prima) rivelati i suoi segreti ai profeti suoi servi.
8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?	8 Il leone rugge: chi non temerà? Il Signore Dio ha parlato: chi non profetizzerà?
9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.	9 Fatelo sentire nei palazzi d'Azoto, e nei palazzi della terra d'Egitto, e dite: « Radunatevi sulle montagne di Samaria, e mirate le numerose follie che sono in lei, e le oppressioni sofferte dentro le sue mura.
10 For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.	10 Non sanno agire secondo giustizia — dice il Signore, — hanno adunati tesori d'iniquità e di rapine nei loro palazzi.
11 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.	11 Per questo, così parla il Signore Dio: « La terra sarà straziata e attaccata da ogni parte, ti sarà tolta, la tua fortezza, e i tuoi palazzi saran saccheggiati ».
12 Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.	12 Così parla il Signore: «Come se un pastore togliesse dalla bocca del leone due stinchi o un pezzo d'orecchio, così saran salvati i figli d'Israele che poltriscono in Samaria nell'angolo del letto e sui cuscini di Damasco.
13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,	13 Ascoltate e dichiarate la cosa alla casa di Giacobbe — dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: —
14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.	14 nel giorno in cui comincerò a castigare le prevaricazioni d'Israele colpirò gli altari di Betel, e le corna dell'altare saranno troncate e cadranno per terra.
15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.	15 E distruggerò i palazzi d'inverno coi palazzi d'estate; andranno in rovina le erse d'avorio e gran numero di case saranno abbattute — dice il Signore ».
