Amos 3

1 Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,	1 Écoutez, Israélites, cette parole que Yahvé a prononcée contre vous,: Vous êtes bien la famille que j’ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte.
2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.	2 Je n’ai connu que vous parmi toutes les familles de la terre, c’est pourquoi je veux vous demander compte de tous vos péchés.
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?	3 Deux hommes marchent-ils ensemble sans s’être mis d’accord?
4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?	4 Le lion rugit-il dans la forêt s’il n’a pas sa proie? Le petit lion fait-il entendre sa voix dans sa tanière sans avoir rien pris?
5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?	5 L’oiseau tombe-t-il à terre dans le filet, s’il n’y a pas d’appât? Le filet se lève-t-il du sol sans avoir rien pris?
6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?	6 Sonne-t-on de la trompette dans une ville sans que le peuple ait peur? Arrive-t-il un malheur dans une ville sans que Yahvé en soit l’auteur?
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.	7 De même le Seigneur Yahvé ne fait rien sans en révéler le secret à ses serviteurs les prophètes.
8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?	8 Le lion a rugi, qui ne craindrait? Le Seigneur Yahvé a parlé, qui ne prophétiserait?
9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.	9 Lancez un appel dans les palais d’Assyrie et dans ceux du pays d’Égypte, dites: Rendez-vous donc sur les montagnes de Samarie, et regardez. Que de désordres dans cette ville, que de violences!
10 For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.	10 Ils ne savent plus agir avec droiture - parole de Yahvé. Ils remplissent leurs palais par la violence et l’injustice.
11 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.	11 C’est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Yahvé: L’ennemi assiégera le pays, il te fera baisser les bras et tes palais seront pillés.
12 Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.	12 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: les deux pattes et le bout d’oreille que le berger arrache à la gueule du lion, c’est ce qui restera des Israélites, de tous ces gens qui se prélassent à Samarie sur des divans et des coussins de Damas.
13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,	13 Écoutez cette parole du Seigneur Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, et redites-la à la maison de Jacob:
14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.	14 Le jour où je châtierai Israël pour ses péchés, je m’en prendrai aux autels de Béthel; les cornes de l’autel seront brisées et jetées à terre.
15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.	15 Je frapperai la maison d’hiver et la maison d’été, les palais d’ivoire seront dévastés et de nombreuses maisons seront détruites - parole de Yahvé.
