1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,	1 Cette parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;	2 “Fils d’homme, invente une comparaison pour les gens d’Israël, et fais-les deviner.
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:	3 Tu leur diras: Voici une parole de Yahvé: Le grand aigle aux larges ailes, au long plumage, avec ses plumes de toutes les couleurs, est venu au Liban: il y a enlevé la cime du cèdre.
4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.	4 Il a cueilli la branche la plus haute, il l’a emportée au pays des affaires, dans une ville de commerçants.
5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.	5 Puis il a pris un plant dans le pays, il l’a mis dans un champ tout comme un saule, là où l’eau ne manquait pas.
6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.	6 Le plant a grandi, il est devenu une vigne, de taille modeste mais fertile, qui tournait ses branches vers l’aigle tandis que ses racines s’enfonçaient. La vigne a poussé et s’est faite arbre, elle a donné branches et sarments.
7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.	7 Mais arrive un autre aigle, grand, avec de larges ailes, un plumage fourni, et voici que la vigne dirige vers lui ses racines et ses branches, espérant trouver plus d’eau qu’elle n’en avait sur sa terre.
8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.	8 Elle était pourtant plantée dans une bonne terre où l’eau ne manquait pas, elle pouvait étendre ses branches, porter du fruit, devenir une vigne magnifique.
9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.	9 Et maintenant Yahvé demande: Va-t-il réussir? L’autre ne va-t-il pas arracher ses racines, couper ses fruits et laisser ses jeunes pousses se dessécher? Il ne faudra ni grands efforts ni beaucoup de bras pour l’arracher à ses racines.
10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.	10 Il est planté, va-t-il pour autant prospérer? Que le vent d’est se lève, et le voilà desséché: il se desséchera sur la terre où il fleurissait.
11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,	11 Une parole de Yahvé me fut alors adressée:
12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;	12 “Tu diras à cette bande de rebelles: Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie? Voici: le roi de Babylone est venu à Jérusalem, il a enlevé son roi et ses chefs et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone.
13 And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:	13 Ensuite il a pris un rejeton de race royale, il a conclu une alliance avec lui et lui a imposé un serment. Il a même pris les responsables du pays
14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.	14 pour que le royaume reste petit, ne puisse pas se révolter, et que l’autre garde et respecte son alliance.
15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?	15 Mais ce prince s’est révolté contre le roi de Babylone, il a envoyé des messagers en Égypte pour qu’on lui donne des chevaux et une armée nombreuse. Pourra-t-il réussir? Après avoir rompu l’alliance, va-t-il s’en tirer?
16 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.	16 Par ma vie - parole de Yahvé, c’est dans le pays du roi qui l’a mis sur le trône qu’il mourra, chez ce roi dont il a méprisé le serment et rompu l’alliance. C’est à Babylone qu’il mourra.
17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:	17 Le Pharaon ne lui enverra pas un fort contingent, avec beaucoup de monde, quand on élèvera le remblai et les tours pour abattre les défenseurs.
18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.	18 Il a méprisé le serment, il a rompu l’alliance alors qu’il avait donné sa parole; et après cela il s’en sortirait?
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.	19 C’est pourquoi, voici ce que dit Yahvé: Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, je ferai retomber sur sa tête mon serment qu’il a méprisé et mon alliance qu’il a rompue.
20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.	20 J’étendrai sur lui mon filet et il sera pris dans ses mailles ( ).
21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.	21 Ses gardes tomberont sous l’épée et les survivants seront dispersés à tous les vents: alors vous saurez que moi, Yahvé, j’ai parlé.
22 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:	22 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je prendrai moi-même sur le cèdre ( ) une jeune pousse, et je la planterai sur une montagne haute et fière.
23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.	23 Je la planterai sur une haute montagne d’Israël, elle se développera, elle produira du fruit et deviendra un cèdre magnifique; sous lui se reposeront tous les oiseaux de toute espèce, ils s’abriteront à l’ombre de ses branches.
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.	24 Tous les arbres dans la campagne sauront alors que je suis Yahvé: j’abaisse l’arbre élevé et j’élève l’arbre humilié, je dessèche l’arbre vert et fais fleurir l’arbre sec; moi Yahvé je l’ai dit, et je le ferai.
