Put off, O Jerusalem, the garment of mourning and affliction, and put on the comeliness of the glory that cometh from God for ever.1 “ ‘Take off, O Jerusalem, the garment of your sorrow and troubles, and put on your beauty and the honor of that eternal glory, which you have from God.
Cast about thee a double garment of the righteousness which cometh from God; and set a diadem on thine head of the glory of the Everlasting.2 God will surround you with a double garment of justice, and he will set a crown on your head of everlasting honor.
For God will shew thy brightness unto every country under heaven.3 For God will reveal his splendor in you to all who are under heaven.
For thy name shall be called of God for ever The peace of righteousness, and The glory of God's worship.4 For your name will be given to you by God for eternity: the peace of justice and the honor of piety.
Arise, O Jerusalem, and stand on high, and look about toward the east, and behold thy children gathered from the west unto the east by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the remembrance of God.5 Arise, O Jerusalem, and stand in exaltation, and look around towards the east, and see your sons, gathering together, from the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun, by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the remembrance of God.
For they departed from thee on foot, and were led away of their enemies: but God bringeth them unto thee exalted with glory, as children of the kingdom.6 For they went out from you on foot, led by the enemies, but the Lord will lead them to you, being carried in honor like sons of the kingdom.
For God hath appointed that every high hill, and banks of long continuance, should be cast down, and valleys filled up, to make even the ground, that Israel may go safely in the glory of God,7 For God has resolved to humble every high mountain and the longstanding cliffs, and to fill up the steep valleys in order to level the ground, so that Israel may walk diligently in the honor of God.
Moreover even the woods and every sweetsmelling tree shall overshadow Israel by the commandment of God.8 Yet the woods and every sweet-smelling tree have provided shade for Israel by the commandment of God.
For God shall lead Israel with joy in the light of his glory with the mercy and righteousness that cometh from him.9 For God will lead Israel with joy into the light of his majesty, with mercy and justice, which is from him.’ ”
