Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,	1 Allora tutti i capi dei guerrieri e Iohanan figlio di Caree, e Iezonia figlio di Osaia, e tutto il rimanente del volgo, piccoli e grandi,
2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)	2 andarono a dire al profeta Geremia: « Siano accette dinanzi a te le nostre suppliche, e tu prega il Signore Dio tuo per noi e per tutti questi avanzi, chè di tanti siamo rimasti pochi, come vedi coi tuoi occhi.
3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.	3 E il Signore Dio tuo ci faccia conoscere la via che dobbiamo seguire, e quello che dobbiamo fare ».
4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.	4 Rispose loro il profeta Geremia: « Ho inteso: ecco io pregherò il Signore Dio vostro secondo le vostre parole: qualunque cosa mi risponda il Signore, io ve lo riferirò, senza celarvi niente».
5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.	5 Ed essi dissero a Geremia: « Il Signore sia tra noi testimone della verità e della fedeltà, se non faremo tutto quello che il Signore Dio tuo per te ci manderà a dire.
6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.	6 O che sia di bene o di male, noi obbediremo alla voce del Signore Dio nostro al quale ti mandiamo, per esser felici quando avremo ascoltata la voce del Signore Dio nostro ».
7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.	7 E passati che furon dieci giorni, il Signore parlò a Geremia,
8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,	8 il quale, chiamati Iohanan, figlio di Caree, e tutti i capi dei guerrieri che eran con lui, e tutto il popolo, dal più piccolo al grande,
9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;	9 disse loro: « Così parla il Signore Dio d'Israele, al quale mi avete mandato, per umiliare davanti a lui le vostre preghiere:
10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.	10 Se resterete tranquilli in questa terra, io vi rialzerò e non vi distruggerò, vi pianterò e non vi sradicherò, perchè son già placato col male che vi ho fatto.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.	11 Non abbiate paura del re di Babilonia, del quale tremanti vi spaventate, non ne abbiate paura — dice il Signore — perchè con voi ci sono io, a salvarvi e liberarvi dalle sue mani.
12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.	12 E vi tratterò con misericordia, e avrò pietà di voi, e vi farò abitare nella vostra terra.
13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,	13 Ma se voi dite: « Non abiteremo in questa terra, non daremo ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio nostro »,
14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:	14 aggiungendo: « Niente affatto; ma noi andremo nella terra d'Egitto, dove non vedremo più guerre, non sentiremo più il suono della tromba, non patiremo più la fame, e vi staremo ».
15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;	15 Udite riguardo a questo la parola del Signore, o avanzi di Giuda. Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « Se voi vi ostinate a volere andar in Egitto, e v'andate per abitarvi,
16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.	16 la spada che paventate verrà a trovarvi nella terra d'Egitto, e la fame per la quale state in pena vi starà addosso nell'Egitto, ove morrete.
17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.	17 E tutti quelli che si sono ostinati a volere andare in Egitto per abitarvi periranno di spada, di fame, di peste; di essi non resterà nessuno, nessuno potrà fuggire al male ch'io farò venire sopra loro.
18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.	18 Infatti cosi parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Come si accese il mio furore e la mia indignazione contro gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così divamperà il mio sdegno contro di voi, quando sarete entrati in Egitto, e sarete (oggetto) di esecrazione, di stupore, di maledizione, di obbrobrio, e non vedrete mai più questo luogo.
19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.	19 Ecco la parola del Signore riguardo a voi, o avanzi di Giuda: Non andate in Egitto: sappiate bene che io oggi ho protestato contro di voi;
20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.	20 perchè voi ingannate voi stessi. Infatti mi avete mandato dal Signore Dio nostro, dicendo: — Prega per noi il Signore Dio nostro, e tutto quello che ti dirà il Signore Dio nostro riferiscilo a noi, e lo faremo. —
21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.	21 E oggi ve l'ho riferito, e voi non avete dato ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio nostro in nessuna cosa di quelle per le quali m'ha mandato a voi.
22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.	22 Or dunque sappiate bene che voi morrete di spada, di fame, di peste nel luogo dove avete voluto andare per abitarvi ».
