Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,	1 - E si presentarono tutti i condottieri di armati, e Joanan, figlio di Caree, e Jezonia, figlio di Osaia con tutta l'altra gente dai più piccoli ai più grandi
2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)	2 e dissero a Geremia profeta: «Accogli la supplica nostra, e prega per noi il Signore Dio tuo per tutti questi avanzati, perchè pochi residui siam rimasti di tanti, come gli occhi tuoi ci possono vedere;
3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.	3 e il Signore Dio tuo ci faccia conoscere la via per dove incamminarci e quello che ci conviene fare».
4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.	4 E Geremia profeta disse loro: «Ho sentito: ecco io adesso farò orazione al Signore Dio vostro secondo le vostre parole: qualunque cosa mi avrà risposto ve la manifesterò e non terrò a voi celato nulla».
5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.	5 Allora essi dissero a Geremia: «Il Signore sia testimonio della fidente sincerità nostra, che secondo quanto manderà a dire a noi il Signore Dio tuo, così faremo.
6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.	6 Sia bene o sia male, alla voce del Signore Dio nostro, al quale ti mandiamo, obbediremo; affinchè nell'ossequio alla voce del Signore Dio nostro bene ci avvenga».
7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.	7 Come furono giunti al termine i dieci giorni, la parola del Signore fu comunicata a Geremia.
8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,	8 Ed egli chiamò Joanan, figlio di Caree, e tutti i condottieri di armati che erano con lui, con tutto il popolo dal più grande al più piccolo,
9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;	9 e disse loro: «Il Signore Dio di Israele al quale mi avete mandato, per umiliare le vostre suppliche nel suo cospetto, dice così:
10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.	10 - Se restate tranquilli in questa terra, vi ristabilirò e non vi distruggerò, vi farò prender radice, non vi estirperò; già sono placato da quel male che vi ho fatto.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.	11 Non abbiate paura della faccia del re di Babilonia da cui impauriti trepidate; non abbiate paura di lui, dice il Signore; perchè io sono con voi per salvarvi e scamparvi dalle sue mani.
12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.	12 Vi farò trovar misericordia e vi favorirò e vi lascerò abitare nella vostra terra.
13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,	13 Ma se voi dite di non voler restare in questo paese e di non voler ascoltare la voce del Signore Dio nostro dicendo:
14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:	14 "No affatto, ma raggiungeremo il suolo d'Egitto dove non vedremo la guerra, non udiremo lo squillo delle trombe, non patiremo la fame e là ce ne resteremo";
15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;	15 in tal caso udite allora la parola del Signore, o avanzi di Giuda. Così dice il Signore degli eserciti il Dio d'Israele: "Se vi fissate nell'idea di recarvi in Egitto e se vi andrete per ivi abitare,
16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.	16 quella spada che voi temevate vi raggiungerà proprio là in Egitto, e la fame di cui state in pena v'entrerà addosso, là in Egitto e là morirete.
17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.	17 Tutti coloro che si sono fissati in mente di recarsi in Egitto per ivi abitare moriranno di spada, di fame e di peste; nessuno di essi sopravviverà, nè sfuggirà dal male che io farò piombare su di loro".-
18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.	18 Perchè così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: - Come il soffio dell'ira mia e della mia indignazione ha imperversato sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così imperverserà la mia indignazione sopra di voi entrati che sarete in Egitto ove sarete in esecrazione, in orrore, in maledizione e in vitupero, e non rivedrete mai più questo luogo.-
19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.	19 La parola del Signore sopra di voi, o avanzi di Giuda; non vogliate entrare in Egitto, intendetelo bene, son qua oggi io che ve lo protesto,
20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.	20 voi ingannate voi stessi; avete infatti mandato me al Signore Dio nostro dicendo: - Prega per noi il Signore Dio nostro, e secondo quello che ti avrà detto il Signore Dio nostro riferirai e faremo. -
21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.	21 E io oggi ho riferito a voi e non avete voluto ascoltare la voce del Signore Dio nostro per tutto quello che mi aveva mandato a voi.
22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.	22 Ora sappiatelo bene che morirete di spada, di fame e di peste, nel luogo che volete raggiungere per ivi abitare».
